@@JustAnotherChrisI really like the motion blur. Is the shutter speed with flash slower than in darken mode? You could activate it but cover the flash. But that would mean you neet to take both hands of the steering wheel. 🙈
Great video! I’m so glad I jumped on buying the Wide 300 back in March. I really depend on using the exposure compensation, and it pretty much gives me the images I want every single time. That being said, I am glad the Wide 400 exists. I won’t be upgrading to it because I don’t need the self timer, but at least I know it’s there just in case my 300 dies in the near future. Here’s hoping they release a wide camera with the functionality of the mini 99… that would be an instant buy for me (pun intended).
Hey, very very useful video, you went across all the main points, the fact you compare the same photos with differents instax is pretty cool ! I had a question because i hesitate between the wide 400 and the instax mini 12, it's not the same render at all but i like the vintage selfies with the flash as i like some more advanced and bigger photos. Do you have any advice ? Thanks for your time
I'm still working with my 210, I miss not having a tri pod socket and self timer however. Glad they came out with another one so the film will still be there. I did buy extras however.
Hey I’m interested in starting out in instant photography, what would you recommend to start? Would prefer square or wide format. So instax wide 400 or a lomo wide? Or a instax sq40 or lomo square glass? (Can’t find a wide 300 or sq6 available that I trust to be working from eBay or such)
The manual extending lens is actually a positive. With the type of on/off switch it has it is very easy to accidentally turn the camera on when it's in a case or bag. Main reason it is hard to get one used that works...they all have a broken lens... I'm keeping my 300, the 400 is a down grade IMHO... :)
I betcha there's a more advanced Wide camera around the corner. First they release a very basic model that can do less than the 300, and after some time they're going to release a new model (the 450 or 600?) that comes in black (looks more professional), can do a few things more but also costs significantly more. They just released the 400 to make the difference between the basic model and the future model bigger.
I love my 300 ... not sure if it's worth upgrading to get a self timer, I feel EVERY camera needs a self timer!!! I do prefer the 300 shots you did as opposed to the 400!!
Very nice video but it’s only about outside daytime shooting. How about indoors, night and especially selfies results? My main application would be group (4/6 person) selfies, would the timer function of the 400 and a tri-pod weigh up to just talking a selfie from the hand with the 300? You mention these difference but don’t actually compare them sadly. Otherwise love your videos, really helpful choosing a camera and system !
I’d love to see what the instax wide 437 can produce with an ND Filter thanks to retrograde engineer’s amazing adapters. Still have to decide which adapter I wanna shoot for first
As someone that loves shooting instax for just pics with friends and family I would go with the 400 vs 300 just for the self timer... But as a Photographer absolutely agree with you on the lack of control which is not cool at all. But than again... When I want control I have a digital camera with a full frame sensor....
The exposures on the wide 400 look great. I get the frustration removing lighten and darken, but for me, making this as simple as possible is not a bad thing. I can now just take photos, without having to decide to use lighten or darken. I don’t have to obsess whether the photo would look better if I darkened and it might make shooting more enjoyable. What you see now is what you get, all I have to do is point and shoot and get a great looking photo, and that is the market that Fuji is aiming at I think. The people that don’t want to have to think when taking a photo.
thanks for this comment cause im also thinking the same! i have an instax sq6 and i wasted lots of films trying to figure out what exposure is better 🙃
@@leighonfilm From what I see, the light meter in this new camera exposes photos much better than previous models. I think it’s a good choice to go for if you want the bigger photos.
When I decided to try out the Wide format a couple of years ago, I ended up buying a lomography camera. Then I bought another one from them that does both Wide and Mini with different backs. Thank you for this review. I am quite sure now that I can stick with the cameras I've got.
I mean the sad thing is, is that due to resellers/flippers buying up all the 300 and 210s and marking them up 500%, and the Wide 400 being justtttt about equal quality to the 300/210... Means everyone is gonna be snagging this camera up like mad. No reason to spend $125 to $250 on a beat to hell Wide 210 or Wide 300 that probably smells like cigarettes and ass when the 400 is equal in quality. Fuji is thanking scalpers like crazy now. Sad that this is how things are though. In a perfect world the 210/300 would still be 25 to 50 dollars and we would all be buying them instead to show Fuji that they need to release a better product. But nope, I already know someone who's 210 broke recently that is just buying the Wide 400 rather than deal with the insane secondary market.
i grabbed a 210 for 60 bucks months ago and never looked at another polaroid the same way. that darkening mode with the compensation down just....wow...best shots i have ever taken with a analog camera.
Fuji made such a poor decision with this. At least offer a color that looks nicer. I like offering an simple to use product but don't neglect the format by not offering a Wide version of the mini 99's features. Or dare I say....the Wide Evo (with a 1inch sensor please).
Ihad a weird encounter with a Wide 300 once. I ordered the "Toffee" color version on Amazon, turned out it was a dud. I put batteries in there, didn't work, had to send it back. To your comparisons: From what I see in the video footage I can't confirm what you say about the highlights. Maybe one has to see the fotos in real life. What I think you can tell from the pictures is that the framing seems to be more accurate with the 400.
I'm kinda disappointed that they put the finder on the grip side like on the Mini-8 as it's one of the things I dislike about it. They should have put the light meter on the grip side and put the finder in it's place. Also, even if it's just mechanical like on the mini, having some aperture control would be nice. But funnily enough, I still like a lot my old Instax Wide 100.
Great video, as always. This camera ( 400 ) is cool but it is far too expensive here in France. You can only buy it for 150 euros. Seriously, it’s price should be 100 euros max. This camera has nothing exceptionnal compared to the 300 version wich is still available at 120 euros. Keep up the good work Chris. Your channel is the best for instant photo.
So I have a broken 300 but said it opened in my bag and broke. It hasn’t came off it’s ears I think it’s the internal gear that’s came off track. I have the flash E error. Does anyone know if there’s a fix for this or a repair place?
new to instax family so never used 300. 400 is great for me because i dont worry about anything but framing. for me the two cameras are not comparable because they are two different classes of camera that appeal to two different audiences.
@@vekofotoi disagree; the normal pictures on the 300 were warmer and more saturated, and while that appeals to plenty of people, it doesn't necessarily appeal to everybody
Where is the electric eye on the 400? If it's not inside the lens cone, you could simply put an ND filter on the lens for minus exposure compensation. Putting it over the electric eye would be for plus comp. And, you mentioned there's no motor in the 400. I assume this is not correct, since it sounded like the film ejected with a motor. If the lens opens manually, then the 400 doesn't have a reversable motor which opens the lens and ejects the film like all previous versions. This would be a big improvement since this was a point of failure in 300 and earlier cameras.
