Hi I am Stu, one of the Eight Ball Engineering Directors. We really appreciate the time Lock Noob has given to review the product and would like to add some more info to support the review and give more context to the design concept, build choices and pricing to help viewers.” We took the decision to only supply 2 wires with the kit to make it more cost effective. I chose against polishing the wires as I feel it makes them more slippy and can hinder when navigating through the pack. This tool was designed by us to address the flaws with other picks on the market. In the review it is mentioned that an improvement could be made to the thumb turn however, this was incorrectly assembled which is why you encountered the problem. As a company we are not VAT REGISTERED, and shipping is included. The total price including delivery in the UK is £225 We don't plan to make a version 2. The pick is hardened, and the edges will smooth over time. We set out for the pick to have a solid fixed 1 on 1 relationship with the barrel and curtain. To radius the edges would affect the design. The pick body is longer to be able to pick an Era Vectis on a door without removing the handles and helps to stand away from the door reveal when picking. The extra flutes on the side are to get more point of contact within the curtain and to allow the user to stay in gauge. It's all to do with the engineering geometry. The shelf the wire sits on is set above the centre line which allows to get under lower wires easier. While this pick does happily pick union strong bolts. The lock picked was a union 2134. We would be happy to answer any questions and also provide training courses to help the locksmith community. Furthermore we would love to invite you to one of our training days to show you more about the pick and its use. Hopefully enabling you to carry out a follow up video. Overall a good review, would you be happy for us to share this.
Thanks for the comment. I will pin so it’s the first comment people will see. It’s nice you have some more info and context. Feel free to share as long as it’s not edited or taken out of its original context
Brian from LockLab101 who is a locksmith uses this tool in his videos. He's very skilled with it and he seems to have no problem using the screwball method to get under low levers, even with that raised ledge. Personally I modified the bent nail tension wrench to include a channel rather than file it all flat. That I think gives good control of the pick wire. Having watched Brian use his 8 Ball pick set your review answer a few questions that bounce around my head. I have noticed that Brian does exactly what you suggested and he puts tape on the flat part and the pick wire. I agree the 3D printed puck handle needs modifying. Great review Lock Noob the robot 🤣😉
A fair review but given the comments from the engineers I think a follow up video would be appropriate. This is a carefully engineered tool and it is good to include the thoughts of the engineers who designed it as to why they designed things that way. Also considering you had the 8 ball handle around the wrong way, as this handle was the biggest part of what you didn't find aesthetically pleasing out of the whole kit. cheers
Hi Ash, I totally agree with you on the 8ball handle. The dovetail should have been placed on the full width, not just half way round... especially for this price 😐
Not a bad tool... but for that price i think it should be better. Having a plastic handle for the wire is a bit average, it has the potential to break. An alloy handle would be better. Some sort of markings on the wire and tension tool would have definitely been a great addition. And i thought the finish did look a little rough from some of the close-ups. But regardless of all that i wouldn't buy one because i don't have a need for one. Good to see it in action though 👍
The idea of the thumb turn is that no other tools are required like Allen keys for grub screw which round off. It is a universal pick so would not benefit from marks as the spacing would be incorrect. You just use the levers to gauge where you are. The price is inline with other professional locksmith tools. The finish of the tool making it a grey colour is because both the pick and the wires have been hardened.
@@MrStuartgame3 Hey i read this reply and your comment on the pick and have a question. In your reply you refer to it being a professional locksmith tool, which i agree with. And in your comment i think you said something like you're happy help the locksmith community. Do you mean locksport community , locksmith community, or both ? Because I kind of feel that they're different and things like price, need, etc... will be a huge factor for locksporters.
We did consider making a locksport version as they pick locks in the vice but chose not to. We have no problems with the locksport community as there are some very talented pickers out there. The price may not suit the sporter as they will not see a return on investment. We do ask whether you are a lock sporter or a trading locksmith when you register for an account. Primarily when designing the tool we designed it with locksmiths in mind. The factors we designed out were for problem you would meet on a door and not in a vice. However we are also happy to support any locksporter wishing to use the tool.
@@MrStuartgame3 The main reason why locksporters use a vice is to replicate the lock being on a door so i don't think there's much difference in that regard. When I'm picking in a vice i have the lock at the same height as it would be mounted on a door and pick while standing or kneeling. And yes, the price aspect would definitely be the biggest deterrent for LS'ers. If you were able to produce a cheaper pick i think you'd do well.👍
Thanks. The comment with the vice was in the video the arm was wrapped around the lock which could not be done on a door. But I understand it’s for demo purpose. Most people stand centre in front of the lock which can’t be done on a door. This is why I teach the same as I do as in stand off to a side due to the reveal of the frame or walls. We could maybe re look at a L’ers version.
5 min into the video, it'd be great if you could slow your hands down.. trying to see details of the things you are holdiing and describing kinda makes me ill. Sorry to make a negative comment.. love your videos.

I think this is currently top of my list when i finally decide to try lever locks

Will do.
The tension wrench is a very clever design !!
And this design can be used on paracentric and dimple locks.😁

He had it in backwards
The price was misunderstood I think as it is only £225 all in - delievered.
@@GxAxV so, the wire should have been placed on the side where the dovetail is?
@@SystemX1983 the wire should run through between the dove tails yes.
Interesting tool.
Nice to see different ways to pick curtain locks.
🐈⬛🐾🐈🐾🇦🇺🍻👍
Great tool I have one myself, I would love to see the lollipop in aluminium.

Awesome video ash mate I would have been there sooner my Internet's been off for a week🇬🇧😊😎😎👊👍
Looks to be great a great tool, i would love to get one for myself
Yeah, the handle is cheesy. Not that it matters to me, I will likely never pick lever locks. Nice demo!
