Good morning Jessica, I am a senior living in an apartment in southeast North Carolina. I am growing tomatoes and cucumbers in five gallon buckets on my small patio. I have never done hay bale gardening, but my younger sister once grew strawberries in them😊 My Mother loved gardening. Years ago, I gave a plaque to her with this poem on it....

That is beautiful! I haven’t heard that poem before. I’ll have to write that down and have it in my garden. And that’s amazing having the gallon garden! Praying for a great harvest for you!
Years ago (20 😮) we purchased a manufactured home and we weren’t allowed in the house until it was “ours” - everything complete. We didn’t get keys until the final paper signing.
I think this varies by state and what laws they have. We obviously don’t have that law. I’m glad bc I wouldn’t want to wait to go inside!

Get some plastic runners for your carpet before it gets ruined. You can purchase it on a roll and lay it where you want it. Contractors don’t care about dirt on their boots.

Popcorn plants would be great to plant only need 3 or 4 llanfs..go produce dozens of popcorn ears ( likecorn) each ear pops loads of popcorn...the little will like it.

Use some bamboo canes in with your tomatoes plants and the to plants, so they won't get damaged in wind xxxxxxxxx

Howdy from Texas. I planted vegetables this year in a raised bed ( 4 ft wooden built boxes) my tomatoes and squash are doing ok, but I also planed flowers gladiolus to be exact and they are doing very well just waiting for them to bloom. Living on the gulf coast it get quiet hot seem like we have 2 seasos here winter and summer no in between lol hot heat and mosquitoes like crazy.... its been raining for a few days now.. good luck on your veggies

@@nan---- 😂 it was on the vinyl flooring not the carpet. We want to put in flooring throughout the house for that reason (plus I just like it better) but we prob have to wait to do that.

I think your plants will end up doing ok. When you think about it being there today and being locked out looks like it was God's way of getting alot of questions answered for you and putting you in touch with a worker from that company who has all kinds of knowledge and could continue to be very helpful. God is good!

Here in Australia I think it would be unsafe to use hay bails. We have too many creepy crawlies. Snakes would love it.

You will be cleaning the home. I have purchased several mobile homes new and you are the clean up crew.
You need to ask how long before you will be getting your "certificate of occupancy". The electric panel covers has to be off until the inspection has been done. When you get your certificate of occupancy the power company can turn your power on. The certificate of occupancy is your okay to start moving in items to your home and for you to clean.
DO NOT GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAM OF GARDENING. Seeing plants sprout, grow and bloom or produce is good for you mental and physical well being. I planted thousands of black eyed susans and this area is my mental happiness area. It encompasses over two acres that is not mowed until the flowers are done blooming. Here in Suwannee County the state has planted on the right of way te black eyed susans and phlox and mowing the roadways during this time is prohibited and many others has fields full of these flowers. It gives my heart joy to see them all start blooming.
Ok! I’ve been wondering if they clean or me. It’s not that bad so it’s not a big deal for me to do it. Thank you! We are getting closer and can’t wait for that CO! And yes gardening is my therapy ❤️❤️❤️ black eyed Susan’s are my fave!
Garden is just not happening this year for us
I live in Georgia and just got a manufactured home as well, it was delivered April first and so far we have everything completed except the AC/HVAC unit. We got our keys at closing and my home was out together in 2 days as far as the inside so I started moving stuff in right away but we’re waiting for AC unit to move in.

Have y'all talked to the kids about living in the country is different. Like you might have snakes in the tall grass. Babies running around and they don't know what to look for. I would talk about posen ivey and nettals , not sure if y'all have in your area. Its a different life but such fun.
We have with the older kids who understand. Littles are staying with an older kiddo or myself. And trying to keep shoes on them. (Little kids always kick their shoes off) but def a new set of standards.
I’ve only seen one snake when I was by myself and it was a corn snake. But still…
may mother would go outside with a rake and look for rattle snakes before we were allowed out to play back in the 60s lol

Do you have to worry about wildlife eating your plants and hay?
So this is new to me being in the country and worrying about wildlife. So I’m not sure. I did get some deer and rabbit deterrent noise makers.
We are also putting in our garden for the first time on our new property - we’re in GA. Wildlife is a major concern. Right now we have electric fencing around our garden, but we may have to put in 8-ft tall fence - deer can jump!

I’m planning to try hay bale gardening this year. But we live in western WY and it’s way too early for us! We had snow yesterday and a 13 degree windchill this morning. 🥶

Thank you! I don’t think it changed the flavor. I’ve always planted basil near by tomatoes though. I do think it helps with pests.
HAVE AN IDEA, To do shade cloth, get 4 Home Depot buckets and a bag of cement that u mix with water for each bucket and some kind of tall post (2x2) is even fine because shade cloth is light…cement those tall posts in the buckets and put one bucket on 4 sides of the hay bales, over the tomatoes and spread the shade cloth over the posts once the cement is dry.
U can use a tack to hammer the cloth to the post.
Just an idea that came to mind.
You can also use those to string out door lights for after dark.
