2:20 I’ve seen online some people with OCD say that it feels kinda trivializing to use OCD as a descriptor for someone who is particularly neat. From my understanding because OCD doesn’t always manifest in wanting things to be neat and even if it does have elements of that, it’s not the same as someone who doesn’t have it simply wanting things to be tidy. I just figured I would mention that, imo neat-freak would probably work as a better descriptor here for what the character is trying to get across. I don’t have OCD so I’m sorry if my explanation is lacking in part if someone with OCD is reading this rn.
i very much second this sentiment!! as someone who is proudly a part of the neurodivergent community i have seen countless people state that using it as a simple term for being “overly neat” is very inaccurate and harmful to the view of OCD :)
I completely agree - cleanliness is only one possible method that the compulsion can take on. When I was younger I have to lock every door handle, unlock, then lock it again. So I completely understand what you mean - I suppose cleanliness is the only way the media has portrayed OCD :(
