Sweet! I'm looking forward to watching where you go w/this project. RIA offers alot for the $$ to begin with, and this pistol is only gonna get better. 👍👍
I definitely love the work that Hayes did with my RIA FS HC Tac Ultra as their tactical slide cut is super slick and fits my aesthetics. I also appreciated the silicon carbide work. Looking forward to see how project turns out.
Hi, I've been carrying a Rock Island TCM 9 mil double stack 1911 for about 5 years now as my primary duty weapon. I had it redone by Hayes custom guns, and I had monsoon tactical do the Genghis comp port as well as millet for a Holosun 508T. I have been using exclusively Remington R1 magazines in my Rock Island. They work flawlessly and you get an extra round. Comes out to being 19 + 1 with the stock base plate. Thank you for the video. Love that content.
Rock Island has been on my list for a hot minute. Love, if you offered the slides with an RMR cut, it's hard to find 1911 type slides with a cut for a good price.
I had Hayes do a matched pair, one in 9mm the other in 45, both have the full HCG package, turned out awesome. My only regret is I didn’t have them cut for an optic at the same time
“Can a turd be polished” is the question. Hayes Custom: “Yep.” Edit: Keeping the OP up for all. This frame is fine and it runs ok for the money. But for the effort put into this platform, with the hand of a skilled smith, I would challenge only elite shooters could tell a difference between this upgraded platform and another high end double stack platform.
I've been building out RIA's for a while and they are better platforms than people give credit. Now it seems the Prodigy is the starting point for a lot of builders and that's OK, but that $500 to $600 difference in initial purchase price leaves a fair amount of money on the table for upgrades... I shoot in USPSA Limited Major w/ a 10mm RIA fitted w/ a .40 Barrel and my custom internals. If I don't win my division most days, it's not the guns fault, it's mine.
Hey, Skip. Glad you went ahead and got all the sizes, I’m gonna go grab a couple right now. What can you, or what would you do to a rock island single stack Tac 10mm commander with the full length dust cover and pic rail? Just picked one up and so far I’d like lighten the trigger, strip the parkerized finish and DLC the frame and slide, and polish the entire barrel because only the chamber where the casing eject is polished and the rest of the barrel is black. I’d also like keep some kind of iron sight option and add an RMSC cut to the slide. I don’t know much about 10mm 1911’s yet but I’d love to get some good looking port work done if it won’t mess with the reliability. Let me know what you can or would do. Thanks Skip 😎👍🏻👍🏻 you’ve always got the best builds on UA-cam
@@SkipsGunz are you saying you wouldn’t suggest the ports, or that you don’t do them? How much for the DLC slide and frame, full polished barrel, and one of your 2.5-3lb trigger jobs?
I had a goal of getting this gun and sending it to Hayes to get a 2011 custom on the cheap. The problem with that is Hayes charges as much as the gun for most of their packages, which imo completely defeats the purpose of buying a budget gun. I understand that cheap work aint good and good work aint cheap but at that price it puts a ton of 2011's on the table without the hassle of shipping and waiting and all that. I'm still interested to see where you go with it but I'd like to see an under $1200 build or in that range.
I think this rock island would be amazing with a sight block on it making it like a staccato xc. With the weight of this gun i bet it would shoot sooo flat
So I know we talked a little about the RIA. But then I found your video on the DWX and it looks great. My question is can we get there with the RIA . I noticed that alot of what we talked about on the RIA looks to be done on the DWX. So now I am asking the master. What would you do. Oh before I forget I also would like to get one of your slide releases with the gas pedal for my prodigy 4.25 in the silver look.
Not 100percent sure on Dwx yet but we can do all the wit ria for sure and slide stops ready on website just send the email in I don’t handle orders lol just the good looking one lol 😂
I would like to know what the kkm ran you I looked at the site but did not see that offered. I am looking at a rock island but I would definitely want to go with the bull barrel first thing and the toolless guide rod.
@@SkipsGunz now that is awesome. I will get with you on getting this done. I am really looking at doing this. I need to buy one first. Would it need to be sent to you?
Have a hayes customs rock island with the full HCG oackage. Ported bull barrel, red dit sughts, trigger job. The works. And ill tell you, the damn thing runs better than staccatos and i would definitely compare it to an atlas. Maybe even better. Best gun ive ever shot.

Are you gonna get 3xl shirts or 4xl shirts?
I did not know you could change a bushing barrel setup to a bushing less bull barrel setup. Thanks for posting.

That light looks great on that pistol.

Are you going to offer a RIA package in the near future? Hayes’s Package is expensive.
It’s possible
I believe it’s worth the upgrade.
I sent mines back to RIA and they did an optic cut with a Chambers Custom plate with the rear sight built in front of the optic.
Can’t wait to see the end result!

I have an RIA Hayes Custom. They built it with the full monty. It is as good if not better than my Stacatto. Such a joy to shoot.
I’d love to check it out and compare

Hayes Custom: “Yep.”

Idk bud turning into a pretty badass setup
@@SkipsGunzoh it very much is turning into a tack driver. That wasn’t a dig, it was very much proof with a skilled smith, this gun can run wonders.
@@JoMamasHouse ohh I didn’t take it as a dig I was agreeing
I see they went back to putting a billboard on the slide again.
Old pic
Great video. Personally like what you can build up. More attainable for me at least.
We can always help somehow
Rock Island Arms makes affordable base guns to customize the way you want.

What kind of clearance do you aim for on the bull barrel to slide?
The 4.1" Sig Viper, should be arriving for the Cut today or Monday.
Sig Viper close, or CQB?
Does this gun have a firing pin block, or can it slamfire?
Nice stuff!! Hate I wear a 5x
1.5lbs trigger?? 👀 that's wild

@@SkipsGunz Awesome, can't wait to see where it goes. It's odd that $1200 and budget go in the same sentence with these guns, but, here we are.
2011 mags work in these. However you won’t get last round lock back

are the grips thicker than "2011s"?
