This mashup is a VideoSong, a new medium with 2 rules:
1. What you see is what you hear (no lip-syncing for instruments or voice).
2. If you hear it, at some point you see it (no hidden sounds).

@15000volts - dude! everyone seems to be requesting a longer version. here's the deal - i'm trying to do a new video every week, because it helps keep my creative metabolism cranking, and these days it's good to create "regular" content. HOWEVER!! maybe after i've released a dozen of these, I'll go back to them all, create longer versions, and post the new stuff as an "album" on iTunes. would you guys be into that?

@RedlineSnowboarding - technically there are effects on every track, because every track has compression, EQ, or both. Many tracks have even more processing. I don't typically show "mixing" related stuff in VideoSongs, because then the video would be 2 minutes of computer shots, and 1 minute of performance, and it would be super boring! so if there's a REALLY crazy stand-out effect that cuts through the mix, i'll show it. otherwise, i just usually show performance tracking shots.

@GCultimate - I recorded the same beat four times, panned two of them to the left, and two of them to the right. I filmed them all from SLIGHTLY different angles (in an arc) which allows me to cut between the various takes and achieve a "bullet time" ish effect, so it looks like the camera is swooping around the drums. In reality, though, the camera is on a tripod, totally stationary for each of the four takes. And then i added some bourne identity camera shake in final cut.

@GregVlog Yes. I love reason. Got 5 and I also like the new record program. I am not using protools anymore. I am not sure what he is up too. I think he does a lot of his stuff live. You also see somtehing that says boom at the beginning which is not reason. When you see the malstrom in the video, that is reason.

@RedlineSnowboarding Effects such as reverb, flanger, distortion, etc. are all commonplace among guitar fx and don't really need to be announced like that. Although they have shown several pedals in their videos anyways. I think you should definitely show any major in-software alterations to audio tracks though. Which they also do.

I spent so much timing sitting at my computer trying to figuring out the inception theme on guitar only to realize its a C minor chord and then a B major chord and the melody is the 5ths (G and F#) and that's it. Nothing confirms how stupid I really am quite like figuring out that something really complicated is actually very simple. Also I probably could have just googled a tab...

I wonder if you 'd be interested in a tutorial on "how to make a videosong". I mean describe the process you use, how you synchronize sound and image and share some tips, or whatever. I believe you actually coined the term "vodeosong", if I'm not mistaken, didn't you? Well, there are a lot of wannabe ... "videosingers" (there, I coined that one myself!) out there who could really use your know-how!

the main thing is it's too short -i thought i was listening to a sample. i would've liked to hear a little more 'derezzed' in there than that. the drums took over. other than that, it's a great concept and nice execution. bought the song on itunes to show support.
@TheTiagoSerrano Well I'm pretty sure you wouldn't agree if someone said that you had to put your money first in a particular bank, free of charge, to be able to buy a book, or even if you had to use a specific pair of free glasses to read a given book. I just want the music, not the software.

I looked online for half an hour and that did not make it in an ocean of movie links, even with the tag Music edit program . I apologetically and resolutely withdraw my complaint. But I thought I did a "Reason"able amount of homework.
I sometimes get the impression that somewhere, there's a large room/warehouse/shed that is filled with (in order of importance):
1) Large quantities of drugs
2) Every musical instrument known to man
3) A dozen or so video cameras
4) Some recording equipment

Jack, what happened to your recording environment? You now seem to be recording in a dank torture chamber instead of the cheery, rambling room in your house. Trying to get yourself in the right mood for some dark, edgy music?

@jackcontemusic You guys will also sometimes add effects to the video to reflect or mimic what is happening to the audio... case in point being the ending of "September" which is highly effective

While listening to this, in my head, I also hear a theremin quietly adding a higher pitched sound to the layer. I could see an animation by Cyriak providing some visuals for this tune.
Arghhh, why do you always make your videos so short, it's so frustrating, I've got the feeling the song was only starting! Those repetitive songs especially are meant to be way longer :p

One of those talking ad things came up on my computer in the middle of this song, and i screamed at it for interupting one of the most brilliant musicians of all time.
there might be people who are quite interested in your production methods, i mean you can plink one note and create a million different sounds/melodies/patterns out of it
I agree, this is absolutely outstanding! Possibly your best work yet! I do have one gripe however as others have said... It is too short! It doesn't feel finished!

3 cameras 1 left, 1 center, 1 right all recording. he quickly cuts frame by frame to each one to give the illusion of quick movement back and forth.

This is very awesome. It irritates me knowing that itunes charges for almost every download, but this....this masterpiece gives me reason.
@jackcontemusic you guys will also distort the video sometimes to kind of reflect whatever effects are applied, which is pretty effective

The part that you drum. That effect do you do that with 3 cameras recording the same thing?? or do you record with 1 camera over and over?
