I've been living in Norway for almost 20 years. As soon as the question of 'snakker du engelsk?' is answered to the affirmative, people switch and speak English.
@@aurelia5129 They like to practice it, sometimes, with a native speaker, like me. It depends how old they are. The young kids pepper their language with English words, much to their elders disgust. My son, born and raised here, speaks both fluently so sometimes he'll speak English with his school friends and he always speaks English with his older half brother, because it is their emotional language because I raised them both.
Saying that Norwegian is similar to English is interesting! I only speak English and I'm just starting Norwegian. I don't actually find it all that similar, I used to learn Dutch (I can't remember much now..) and I find it similar to Dutch. And German.

@@linasharkova actually i decide to study in norway and also wish to settle in norway so i'm litle bit scare about language because i just know english langugae !!!
Norwegian is a bit easier, not only because of the grammar but also because of the pronunciation. While Norwegian is a north germanic language, german is a west germanic language and a little harsh in the pronunciation. Plus german grammar can be very confusing, i grew up in Germany so i‘m a native speaker and i can tell u, even germans get confused sometimes hahahah. Good luck studying in Norway, i wanna do the same!!
English and German are both West Germanic and Norwegian is North Germanic. However I found that Norwegian is much much easier to learn as an English speaker. Maybe because England has had many scandinavian immigrants and also England used to be ruled by the vikings so there are many cognates. Not only is the vocabulary easier in Norwegian than in German for an English speaker but also Norwegian grammer is much easier to learn too. Norsk er ikke veldig vanskelig å lære hvis du snakker Engelsk :)

Writing this before I watch the rest, I think I’m truly going somewhere with it cause I understood like 90% of the intro. I might come back for an update depending on this comment’s traction.
I'm learning Norwegian too, because of Ragnarok and Frikjent :P. Does anyone know where can I meet Norwegian people to practice (in real) and not only in an app.

Funny enough, it's easier to understand the movies than to understand the show Occupied haha

Never watch skam, now I will haha. But I started to learn Norwegian because of my friend who lives there and she mixed one time the language and I liked it.
I am learning Norwegian and this will help me much
I am from US, living in Norway, trying to learn Norwegian. It's tricky. What's your native language, Polly?
Russian
"I printed it out because I'm a cheap whore" bruh LMAO
"Well fuck that shit" yessssssss
tusen takk!!
Never heard of skam, but I am learning the language. Thanks for your tips. I hope you the best.
I was in Kristiansand for a month and since I got back, for the last 44 days, I have been learning Norwegian. I knew a few words snce 2018 but now I want to go back. My vocabulary is about 750 words according to duolingo
Made the video speed to 1.75x and voila👌
Hi, I'm learning Norwegian also, Your progress is so right, I hope I be like you with my progress, I accepted a challenge who consist in learning Norwegian around 365 days, so i'd like practicing with you, at least, thk you
Greetings from Spain.
How far are you along ?
I've been living in Norway for almost 20 years. As soon as the question of 'snakker du engelsk?' is answered to the affirmative, people switch and speak English.
Wait, so most Norwegians rather speak English over Norwegian??
And German.
It has a ton of cognates with english. It's fairly easy it's just the tricky pronunciation.
Which Norwegian are you learning nynorsk or bokmal? cause I don't know where to start
Claudia Sakova Don’t bother learning nynorsk
@@TaastyTom aw. Because fsi language course is in nynorsk... I don't have a way to pay for apps or anything so now I'm at a dead end. I prefer bokmål because more people speak it..
@@GarnetsWeb duolingo does bokmal
@@denzel444 Yes, I've been using duolingo for around 40 days. It's pretty good, but I've been trying to figure out ways to supplement it. I just recently purchased some Norwegian textbooks.
I'm learning Norwegian for the movie battle
Very very interested video because I want to come in Norway so I need to learn before I come there
Guess what this means: *helvetes katt sølte vann over hele boret! Nei vent... det var ikke katten som gjorde det. Unnskyld! DEN VAR HUNDEN SOM SØLTE OVER HELE Boret!*

Which language is easy to speak and learn german or Norweigian?
I guess Norwegian is a bit easier since one doesn't need to learn that many declensions but I didn't study German that much to be sure. Of course, both German and Norwegian are in one group of Germanic languages.
@@instag.s0fie745 I heard that Norwegian has musical pronunciation (like Chinese, for example) so I guess that's a difficulty too
English and German are both West Germanic and Norwegian is North Germanic.
You’re absolutely gorgeous! Great job!
Any good Norwegian books for beginners
Just wondering how many people started learning this beautiful language after discovering Aurora Aksnes 🌚🌝
The tips were really helpful and also you are too adorable that i couldn't resist but watch the whole video "idk"

I want to learn Norwegian because of SKAM😂 So original, I know.. The first time I watched the very first episode, I thought I was listening to German (I didn't know back then it was a Norwegian show) & after a while I fell in love with the language😍 Now I'm Iearning German and Russian, but someday I'll start Norwegian too
Tusen takk for denne informasjonen
Writing this before I watch the rest, I think I’m truly going somewhere with it cause I understood like 90% of the intro. I might come back for an update depending on this comment’s traction.

Du har veldig fin sangstemme. Syng mer! Singing is a fantastic way of remembering words and pronunciation. Håper kanalen din på YT får mange seere :-)
I learning Norwegian too from the totally same resons!! I heard that in skam season 3 and the language sounds so interesting and special. Im from israel, so it wasn't popular at all no the language either. I started from doualingo too. The level when they started it is ridiculous high.
Do you know Marcus and Martinus? They are twins norvegians and they sing! I fell in love with this language thanks to them. ☺️🇳🇴

If you’re still studying Norwegian, @Vs Polly, the movie Dead Snow is entirely in Norwegian. Skip the sequel-it’s beyond horrible & he did it just so no one would ask him to do another like that. Troll Hunter is another good movie in Norwegian.
What show again?
Gurl, thank you so much, I wanna start to learn Norwegian bc of yours video thankxxxxxx❤️🌸
I started learning Norwegian because of black metal haha!
I thought I was Scottish but I took a DNA 🧬 test turns out I am part Norwegian and I did not know! I love learning Japanese at school so I thought I would learn Norsk to learn more about my culture :)

I wanna learn Norwegian because Im a fan of norse mythology and vikings
Jeg er glad i Norsk språket. Norwegian is beautiful. I'm glad Duolingo exists because it's been a big help and aside from that, I saw two Norwegian movies on Netflix (Elling and it's prequel and the 2022 movie Blasted ) and I'm on season 1 of Occupied. Funny enough, it's easier to understand the movies than to understand the show Occupied haha
The movies and the show Occupied are on Netflix at the moment.
Same here. Keep up
