An update on using my music on YouTube

- In short, if you're crediting me in your videos, nothing changes! You can still use my music for free and monetize your videos.
Royalty free, and creative commons is great and the decision I made long ago to go that route is something I've never regretted. However, the drawbacks of this has become apparent over time. There has never been any way of safeguarding my library from attacks or unauthorized use. It's just something I've had to deal with.
Luckily, there's now ways to combat it and at the same time make it much more secure and fair for everyone. From the 8th of April, I will be joining Frequency Music and implementing a Smart Content ID system for my entire library.
The license is the same as it's ever been, one small change is that it requires the text to be in the description for the system to read it. If the system can't find where you've provided credit, or if it's not there, it's likely that you'll get a copyright claim. If you get a claim, and you've made sure that I'm fairly credited, you can go through this quick little guide on how to release the claim.

Commenting, liking, and subscribing is very much appreciated, as is just listening of course.
Thank you for stopping by!
Wait we're allowed to use your music so long as we credit you? :0 that's pretty generous! Some of my worldbuilding was built while listening to your music
Absolutely, it's always been that way and will always continue to be that way! Feel free to use it :)
So glad you're getting a stronger system to rely on, your work deserves the credit its earned! I've been listening to your amazing fantasy tracks for almost eight years now, and you've inspired me so much in my own fantasy-based creative endeavors! Congrats on reaching 100k and heres to 100k more! Much love❤❤❤
Thank you so much, my friend!
Man I am so glad to have found your channel through a Skyrim Mod Showcase years ago
Just one of the many things that's great about using Creative Commons, my music has been used in the weirdest of places and it's wonderful. Thank you!
Found Vindsvept though credits in some Skyrim housing mods. Its such versatile music and there's a lot of choice for all sorts of applications!
It was Hodilton? I found him in Hodilton ^^
Was it MXR? That's where I found him from.
MxR ?
UA-cam really does have some serious problems
It sure does. It was built with only copyright in mind, and even that is a bit iffy. Luckily, there's a third party that somehow managed to bridge that gap, and I'm pretty happy about that.
I need to ask you something. I'm making a fantasy video game and this music used to be non copyright as long as you're credited for. Does this mean that I can use your music even if I credit you ?
@@lumyarmin6736 Yes, the license is the same. Make sure to have a peek at this page on my website that is specifically for game devs vindsvept.se/for-video-game-developers, feel free to shoot me an email if you have any more questions, it's easier to keep track of :)
@Vindsvept thank you !
Honestly, still gotta shout out General Sam for introducing me to your music back when Fallout 4 came out. It's been part of my life since then and I'm so grateful you've produced amazing, mystical songs since then.
I hope someday I can utilize your music in something of my own someday❤
Thank you! Hah, that's a while ago, thanks for sticking around :)
Bro I saw the title and my brain feared the worst case scenario and I cried until I read the description and then cried in relief like dude I thought your channel was going away or something. I’m so glad your channel is still here c:)
Edit:
AND CONGRATULATIONS ON 100,000!!!!
Edited again:
My computer did me dirty! Upon reloading the page it now reads the full name of your video and shows the thumbnail, which hadn’t loaded previously. My computer made me cry for no reason lol I can’t with this thing sometimes
I'm thankful that my shorts and broadcasts have always credited you, so there isn't anything obtuse for me to add 🐻
That's awesome!! Honestly really glad you managed to find this, cuz yeah the idea of someone just being able to copyright your entire collection of songs is rather horrifying. And as always, thank _you_ for making such amazing music!
Thank YOU for your music, that's a good thing you can check if your work is credited, some people don't realise how wimple yet important it is to give the right credits, it's what let free content exist and we should be grateful.
oh, and happy easter mate
I remember subscribing to you when I did youtube in 2015/2016 because you are so tolerant with using it. I completely forgot about you until now, I see you also have your music on Spotify so its time to get back and listen to all the new music ive been missing the last couple years.
I've so appreciated being able to use your music in my videos. It's so beautiful! I gladly give you credit because I want people to find you and get to hear the enchanting music you create. And congratulations on the 100K subs!
I've been listening to your beautifully orchestrated tracks for years Vind! It's been an inspiration to me and I've always dreamt of using it in a fantasy/sci-fi webseries I wanna make with a team of mine! It's spoken so much to what some characters and stories in my world are all about, so hopefully if credited right when the time comes, you won't have a problem with that. Nor will UA-cam or any third-parties. Either way, thank you for the info and for so many years of beautiful music! Congrats on 100k! And hope the best for you going forward! Take care 🌟
Thanks for your generosity regarding your music!
I want you to know that I've been using your music in the background of my D&D game 'Tales of Earthica' for the last 8 years, and my members absolutely love it! I'm so sorry things have been stressful to you, so please let me know how I can get the proper permission to use your music while hosting my game, if I'm misusing your content. ❤ I also want to donate to you, so please give me a method to do that as well ☺️
-A Loving Fan ❤️❤️❤️
I came to watch your content due to NyanTales ASMR using your music in the intro and outro, and she credited you!
Keep up the awesome work man!
Thank you so much for going to the work you do to make your music available for use! I loved to use it as bg music when I streamed :) Absolutely perfect and wonderful to listen to, since I'm not much of a low-fi fan. You absolutely do not have to make your music useable for everyone, so it is greatly appreciated that you do so!
Thank you for putting this out there, very kind and helpful of you and absolutely shows your quality of character. :3
I originally discovered you through what I imagine was creative commons useage, due to the inclusion of many of your pieces in the game Crystal Project, and i've loved your work ever since.
Good luck and godspeed, my brother.
I never commented anything, but I'll take this opportunity to say thank you. your music is awesome, if I want to chill out a little I just hop on some relaxing tunes of yours.
stay safe, youtube has become an... interesting place
You're awesome, don't ever change. Glad you have a way now to protect your work and hard earned reputation. Hope to see and hear much more from you in the future.😎
Love your music, funny enough i found you trough minecraft medieval building tutorials, and have stayed trough the years! Love hearing your music when writing!
Awesome! Thank you :)
Hi Vinny! Nice to see your face and watch you talk a little!
It's a good change. I hope everything it's going well.
Love listening to your music in d&d rping and online d&d games and fantasy game settings.
I've always respected you so much for releasing your beautiful music under Creative Commons so everyone can freely use it in their videos and projects without worry.
And now I respect you 10x more for doing this, not just to protect yourself, but to protect everyone who shares your music with the world. The biggest of respect to you, VS.
Spooked me for a sec but thats awesome that it can specifically flag uncredited stuff.
You're awesome for sharing your music with the world in a way that allows others to share it, too, with just a simple ask of being credited for your creative effort. Glad you've found Frequency as a partner and that you'll be in a stronger more secure place moving forward. Cheers to you and your family and here's to many more years of music making!
Thanks for all this years of music :)
And thanks for the future ones !
Thank YOU for providing such wonderful music for us to listen to.
You are absolutely amazing for letting people use your beautiful music. I hear your music in Skyrim in my modded home, (you are credited front and center in the mod). I fell in love with your music years ago and still listen to this day. Thank you for your amazing work!
Thank you, always credit you, in the video and the description, for me it is normal to do.💙
many years ago I "purchased" your entire UA-cam collection. one of the best values I've ever gotten on anything. I support whatever decision you make regarding your music.
THANKS for creating amazing tracks. Best of luck.
Still admire the fact that you did creative commons since the beginning, glad to hear you can keep doing it without having to worry about other people trying to claim your work. I remember when there wasn't even Patreon credits or spotify links in the videos and feeling happy when they started to show up because you were getting recognition you absolutley deserved. The 100k subscribers makes me feel the same way.
Here's to another 100k!
Thank you so much, that's very kind of you to say!
I always felt like the crackdown on background music usage in videos did dirty to the industry (I'm largely talking about art videos and streams). I used to find way more musicians to listen to and buy music from by watching streams that played music/soundtracks with credits. I wouldn't mind exchanging art pieces with musicians to use as backgrounds in their videos for the usage of their music to post my speedpaints. That way we are all seen if proper credit is given. I don't generally go out of my way to find music and this was a good way to stumble upon new pieces easily.
Thanks you for the music you make and your kind offer for people to make use of it.
Hey, thank you! I absolutely agree, I've found so many great artists and musicians by just stumbling across a video that had credits and a link to the source.
I have been following you for ~10 years and am excited each time you drop a new work - It's always fire. At the very least you deserve to be credited if anyone benefits from your hard work. Hope this is an easy transition and helps improve your channel.
I appreciate that! Thank you!
Ay, that does sound like a big W for you
Also, congrats on the 100k subscribers
Love your music and have done so for a while, they always give me a creative surge and make me want to write something
Hey! Thanks for the tip! Absolutely. It's such a relief to finally have something, or someone on your side when it comes to rights.
@@Vindsvept I feel like it's the least I could do for the past ~7 or so years.
And yeah I'd imagine it to be a relief to have some sense of security in this fucked up world that is the UA-cam Copyright System
100k already?!!? 7 year viewer/listener here! I'm glad this new system is being implemented, youtube's detection is absolutely horrendous. Thank you for your commitment towards the channel and your music, It's helped many through life's challenges. Once more, a big thank you & can't wait to see what the future holds! Skål!!
I stream a mmo that takes place in a medieval fantasy world so I enjoy listening to medieval music while I stream it on Twitch. The VODS get exported to my UA-cam channel and I credit you in both the VOD description on UA-cam and under a credits panel on my Twitch channel. Anytime a viewer asks about the music playing I tell them the amazing artist it is done by and suggest they check the credits panel below for a link below to the artist's youtube channel. You do great work and are even friendly enough to let other content creators use your work in their videos. Artists that release their work under a Creative Commons Attribution License deserve to credited. Some Twitch streamers play music and don't credit any artists at all and I wonder how their content hasn't gotten taken down. It seems very selfish not to credit a artist that makes their music free to use. Adding a credit takes like 2 minutes, so there is really no excuse not to do it.
Such a Beautiful and True Creator, Thank You ❤
I believe I’ve used your music in a few of my videos on my other channel, all credited (hopefully properly, but I haven’t touched the channel in a couple years). I may have even credited you in videos I didn’t use your music in, since I just share your music a lot, it gets in some places
Absolutely love your music and look forward to using it in content moving forward
Glad you're taking care of yourself and your music. Credit is important and often helps growth especially if someone popular uses it. I wish you all the best and glad you are protecting your content!
Also I understand the camera shy stuff and glad you made this as a face-to-face communication vs a dialogue box. Keep making music friend!
P.S. Grats on 100k!
Thank you! Credit is much more important than people seem to think, I'm really happy I can do something about that finally!
Also happy you have this safe love yurr songs
I have been listening to your music for 10 years now (....has it really been that long?!) And I've greatly enjoyed every minute of it!
Congratulations on reaching 100k subs. Completely and truly deserved! I'm glad you found a way to be credited for your work. I can't wait for more!
It's hard to believe that it's been that long. It's even harder to believe that some folks have stuck around for all that time, it's mind-blowing. Thank you so much ♡
Your music has had a massive impact to the Skyrim modding community and as one of the creators in the space, it's always sad to see how false copyright flagging ruins the good will of composers such as yourself.
I have a pretty big project coming out very soon that uses your music for the most part, so I guess this video is relevant for me, even though crediting Vindsvept was part of the routine regardless.
Glad you found the system that protects your stuff from abuse.
Keep up the great work, your music is incredible.
Thank you so much! It's really strange how a couple of mods were made years ago, and now I'm somehow connected to that whole community. I only played through the main quest line :D
I found your music through Skallagrim on UA-cam. He always credits your work, and I'm glad I found your channel so many years ago.
I also want you to know you're music is beyond amazing, I genuinely believe you are on par with some of the greatest musicians. Comparable to people like Beethoven, Vivaldi, Bach, Mozart, and more. No joke, your music is that good.
I discovered your music through Crystal Project, namely your track Across the Plains. It was placed so perfectly in the game and it just hit me so deep that I just put my controller down and appreciated the moment. Since then, I've been putting in time and effort to learn more about creating and understanding folk, celtic & fantasy music.
I've honestly just got to thank you for making such an amazing song and inspiring me to delve into the genre as well.
Thank you so much :D
Thanks for the heads up. Now i hope my dyslexic spelling did not happen when crediting you.
it was "He has Escaped!" that brought me here, being used on a Minecraft video of all things, great that you're going to protect your music better!
People come from all sorts of places, it's awesome :D Thank you!
I never knew using your stuff was so easy. Thank you so much for making amazing music and letting other content creators use it!
You’re awesome
Oh, thank you very much!
Very cool of you to allow your work to be so widely used and this seems like a really fair way to handle that. Also, that facial hair is majestic.
Hah, thanks mate!
Thank you for caring about your craft and making wonderful music that inspies us all!
Thank you so much! I just want to write music, all of this business weirdness is kind of odd, but it's just something that had to be done :)
Thank you for your beautiful music❤
I remember first listening to your music after an artist called BinofTrash added 'Spirit Of The Wind' as their background music for their fantasy timelapse drawing, I was so hooked to the theme and I was so glad they credited you in their description. From then on I kept listening to your music whenever I draw fantasy creatures for inspiration, thank you 💙
Thank you! It's great when the license actually works the way it's supposed to :)
4:18 You are a very kind person, a very talented musician. clap clap clap 👏
thank you 😊
Thanks :D
Man, thank you so much for your incredible work. I'm using your songs for years and my audience always praises the soundtrack. And I'm happy to see that I have used the correct format for credits. I hope you have less problems from now on.
You are an incredibly gifted musician and with the hard work and soul you put into your music, you deserve to be credited and praised for it. I hope this all goes smoothly for you so you can have the peace of mind knowing your work is both cherished and protected, but also that you get the honors you rightfully should get.
Thank you so, so much! It's a bit of extra work and I expect some angry emails but it's absolutely for the best!
UA-cam's copyright system is atrocious and I do not understand why they seem so determined to keep a system that hurts so many creators, myself included. I use your music in my streams on Twitch (and I credit you as well so others can find your amazing music). I play your music especially during my dragon age streams because for whatever reason, my dragon age videos get copyright claimed because of the music. Sometimes it's legit (I believe Sony has the rights to the music) but most of the time it's not and there is nothing I can do about it. I'm so glad there is something in place for you and I hope this makes your experience on UA-cam better. You music is truly amazing. I actually discovered your music through Skyrim mod videos here on UA-cam.
Thank you so much! It's such a pain to deal with, I'm really happy to move on from all of that junk.
Glad to hear that your able to find a content ID that can keep your music safe without hurting peoples ability to use it fairly. When i saw the video title i had a brief moment of panic, because I've used your music as background while streaming in the past and I was afraid it would get the VODs here on youtube copy struck. But all the VODs that have your music, Im pretty sure I put both "Vindsvept, fantasy music" and a link to your channel in the description.
That's great! I really want to protect the free use of my tunes, which is a weird thing to say. But here we are :D
Hello, Vindsvept. I use your music when I make my hiking videos for Instagram. Ofc I credit you every single time your music is involved.
That's my way of showing love and appreciation for you and your music. God bless you and your family. Good luck on your future projects! 🙏🙂❤
I always listen to you music when i play Civ 6 or other strategy games, or when i play Minecraft.
Thank you very much for your music and hard work.
Awesome, thank you very much!
Man, i didn't realise about ur channel already at 100k subs, congrats dude. Please keep up more fantasia music i love it ❤❤❤❤😍
You make it sound like it went quickly, it only took a little over 10 years :D Thank you very much!
Thank you so much for taking time to explain this so clearly, and congrats on 100k! ❤
Thank you so much!
Thank you so muth for being upfront and approachable with your wonderful music!
Thank you my friend!
Massive respect for showing people the correct way to credit you and going the "trust" based way
I hope this helps prevent fake copyright claims by third party abusers
Also, those lamps you've got in the backgorund are awesome. And I'm glad to finally put a face and voice to the name! Keep at it dude, your music's amazing and you've got style to match it
Thank you! Absolutely, I hope it works as intended! :)
congrats on 100k, and thank you for your music, i do love listening to it
Glad you enjoy it! Thank you so much!
@@Vindsvept the pleasure is mine sir :)
Sounds like a good system, hope it works and you get the credit you so absolutely deserve
Huge fan, I've been listening to your work for years and years. Take care and I hope to see much more of your stuff!
Congrats on 100k subscribers! That's so cool!
Thank you so much! There's always new tunes in the works :)
@@VindsveptStoked to hear it
This was kinda like our 100k reward, thanks friend
A bit of a strange one, but it's something I suppose :D
Seems like a good system. I found you through a skyrim modding video years ago because you were credited in the description.
Absolutely! That's great, people come from the strangest corners :D
thank you so much the inspiering music you make. It is so magical and thank you so much for the merch it is super and in amazing quality
Thank you so much! :)
I'm glad you got this far without any serious problems from copyright claims, this is defintely a very important step to make sure your work is protected. Congratulations to 100k, keep up the good work!
I've had some issues over the years, but for some reason it's got a lot better these last years. It's going to be great to not have that looming over me constantly. Thank you very much!
Thank you!
I recently created a challenge video with commentary for Crystal Project, a game which happens to use your music, and as such I put the corresponding credit directly on screen in the video. But I'll make sure to put it into the description as well
I'll guess that it would require me to put the credit into the regular casual playthrough videos as well though, so I'm glad I can theoretically just put "Vindsvept" into the Description as credit, since it would be a nightmare to try and find all the various artists for a game I simply did a casual playthrough for and uploaded the footage to youtube
Hello! There's a whitelist for projects that use my music so that third parties don't get caught by the system. Crystal Project is already in that list, so if that is present then it counts as credit :)
@@Vindsvept Ohh, awesome
Thank you for your tremendous effort on top of the fantastic music ^^
I'm just another one of the Crystal Project players, but I am glad to have known you and your wonderful music you make.
You have that magic that makes your music, and the media that uses it, brimming with life :)
Thank you so much :)
gratz on 100k and thank you for creating such soothing music.
Thank you so much! Glad you like the tunes :)
Good for you. Artists should always be credited for their work, especially artists like you who ask the bare minimum for using their intellectual property.
Thank you! I have to agree with you on that.
always mad respect to you and your music
i would always credit you so i suppose nothing really changes but
the update is much appreciated, thanks for the info
(nothing on my channel so far, only a simple skyrim mod i made)
Thank you so much!
Face reveal! I can't believe you're as lovely as your music. The licensing of the songs doesn't really affect me since I'm only here to listen, but I'm glad things are safer now for you and everyone.
Hah, thank you!
Been a supporter on Patreon, and will always support you❤
Wow, thank you for the tip ♡
Congrats on the 100k subs!
Thank you so much 😀
You're majestic I love your music,
first time seeing your face and I got to say you look like you came out of an actual fantasy Fairytale just like your music
keep up the great work! Love from Greece!
Thank you very much!
Massive W! Gad to hear you've got a solid solution to avoid malicious actors just ripping your work, have heard way too many such cases already.
Have been listening to your music for years and always hoped to incorporate it into my content - guess this is the green light! 😅🙌
Absolutely, before I joined I talked to a few musicians who joined up last year, and they dealt with that all the time. I'd be honoured if you'd want to use a tune of mine, that'd be fantastic. Thank you!
Thank you for being very transparent and giving very clear and simple instructions. You are my favorite composer and deserve security and safety. Anyone who complains needs to cram it, imo. Thank you for taking the time for this. I will be making sure all my videos have credit! Thank you for blessing my life.
Hey, thank you so much! I'm going to be as transparent with this as I can moving forward as well. As I said in the video, it's in everyone's best interest when it comes to rights that it's handled in a good and fair way. Thanks again!
And thank YOU for your great work! ❤
Thank you!
Been around since you started ❤
Thanks my man ! Love it !
Love your works !
Thank you!
Thank us? THANK YOU!!
thanks for the heads up! keep up the nice work!
Thank you, my unseen friend!
this is awesome :D i know a few other creators who do use this kind of system, and i wish more ppl did it!!!!
Thank you! Absolutely!
Personally i cant say anything about it since im not making any kinda of music to upload to youtube BUT because i have a small channel for 4 years and always try to find free copyright or royal free music and because i know what is happening im always try to find who's is this music and at least throw all the links on the description to be clean with everyone,
i accept and understand what is happening especially on other platform who easy is to steal someone's else work and just use it as your and make a profit out of it and that just ruins everything and just makes everyone's life more difficult and now im seen people using water marks on there videos in hopes someone wont take there video and upload it on there facebook page just because the creator didnt use facebook,
its mess up and to be honest im with you, all this amazing music for almost a decade and me be able to have so many choices for my videos and hearing most of them just to find the one i like the most for this scene and for this videos its magical,
anyways that's all i want it to say keep up the good work dude and not worry ALWAYS creadits on the description at least.
Thank you so much! It's a strange internety world, but this is a good step toward making things a little bit better.
Take care too, and thanks for your hard work
Thanks for listening :)
Another good thing about this video is that I finally know the correct pronunciation of Vindsvept.
That's something!
Can we use all of your music from your channel really? I'm so glad. You're a good guy. I have searched fantasy music and ambiance for a long time. If I have a chance to use them, I'll give credit to you exactly. But I am concerned about the live streaming. I'm not sure if It uses the detect the license same. Even so, thank you so much.
Love the music!
Thank you Ed :D
you are just an awsome human beeing.
Man, this is why I stop using Music mods in my Skyrim. Even when you make sure all the track in the mods are free to use you still have to deal with this and have to spill out your real name so they can release your video.
Hopefully this will work out well.
Hi there! Thank you for this update, and for the beautiful music you create (I've been binging your tracks on Spotify!). If I understand correctly, this means that I could use your music during UA-cam livestreams as long as you are credited in the description?
I'd also be curious to if you have a preferred way for fans to support you e.g. Patreon vs UA-cam Membership or even Spotify vs Deezer etc. Sometimes people simply want to support by listening to your music, but also want you to get the most back per listen.
Hello! Thank you, that's correct. I get the biggest cut from Patreon and Spotify :)
@@Vindsvept thanks for the answer, and congratulations on 100k subscribers!
Awesome and thank you
Thanks :D
This might be wild, but I remember discovering you thanks to a Roblox game, years and years ago... The game was using some of your songs and I wondered where it was from, and after looking everywhere, I'm pretty sure you weren't credited for it
I might be wrong and have missed it though, anyway I can't recall what game it was
I had to search through the sound files the user had in their sound library, and check songs one by one until I found them, and then I managed to find your channel thanks to the file name
Yea, it can be pretty tricky with some forms of media, but on UA-cam there's really no excuse, so I'm happy there's a system for that now at least. People come from the strangest of places and it's just wonderful! Thank you!
Welp, now I have a few dozen claims to work through since the format of the disclaimer was slightly off. Thanks mate
Welp, spelling is important.
Should I go back and correct the credit from my previous videos? Does it change with the hour or longer videos as it is multiple songs? Thank you so much for your relaxing and wonderful content
Hey, yes. Length or how many tracks doesn't really matter. Ideally, I'd want all track names included as per the license, but just crediting as the example in the video will work!
