When my boys are independent, I'm looking at going on a working/holiday for a few years to the US-from Australia. As I'll be a little older then, perhpas in my my late 40s to 50s, I'd love you to suggest what you think would best work to get into that would allow me to experience the culture in each state, the people and live the life like th locals?
It’s never truly warm in Montana. Even in the middle of July you might need a jacket. I’ve lived here my whole life (14 years) and the biggest thing to learn is to always have a sweater around.
I have lived here all of my 44 years and it gets in the high 90's and over 100 frequently in the summer. Montana is a large state with some diverse weather. You should get out more.
Hi there! The roads get pretty bad (snow + ice), but they do have a lot of snowplow teams who clear the main roads 24/7. There were a few scary blizzards where we couldn't see 20 feet in front of us and had to pull up Google Maps to see which way the road turned. We all drove with flashing emergency lights on during this storm and a few others. Here's a recent video I put together that covers the pros/cons of transportation in Montana: ua-cam.com/video/8cuKtB7DB2A/v-deo.html. Semi -trucks do kick up a lot of snow on the highways, so I learned to avoid driving behind or near them if possible. There are guardrails and tall sticks that let you know where the edge of the road is. The canyon road between Bozeman and Big Sky (narrow, one-lane) in particular was terrifying because a lot of the locals were braver than I was during white-out winter conditions. Practice driving on a backroad / in a neighborhood before you head out into the main streets to test your brakes in icy conditions. I went right through a stop sign once and almost skidded into mailboxes another time due to brakes not catching hah. Also, the line separating the lanes is non-existent during snowy conditions, so everyone just makes up their own lane. Have an emergency kit in your car (snow brush, snow shovel, blanket, food, candle, mug, water, etc.), and snow tires make a HUGE difference. Hope this helps!
Shannon May since I'm from Europe, it could get a little difficult to move. I think there are to much differences between my current life and the US (salary, social security, etc.). But there's no doubt, that I'll visit the north soon. :)
Hi there! I only worked 3 days a week at the ski resort - have a Freelance Marketing business which allows me to work from anywhere and provides the majority of my income. Otherwise, the seasonal job paycheck definitely wouldn't have been enough to cover monthly expenses in Big Sky. Rent is pricey there, but they do have employee housing where you get paired with a roommate. It tends to be a party crowd though! My boyfriend and I wanted a bit more privacy /quiet time since I do have a separate business I needed to focus on. Hope this helps answer your question! :)
Hi Shannon, love your videos and lifestyle! I am looking for a career change myself and am interested in going into freelance marketing. Any tips for how to get started?
I lived in Montana (Billings) my whole life and I couldn't imagine anything different, and yes I know big sky's and all that with the cold, but it's Great!
Dear Shannon: My husband(who's in the Navy) and I are looking into moving to Montana. You are a wonderful insite to what's it like to live in this state. Are you able to tell me what kind of jobs a person would possibly get with a Associates, bachelor degree. and how much homes roughly cost. From Viewer
Hi Andrea -- Sorry for the delay and thanks for watching! I'd recommend using LinkedIn to find job openings in Montana. There are also employment agencies who can help with a quick google search. Apartments costed more than I was expecting when living in Montana, and the median price for a home is roughly $230k in Billings via Zillow. Hope this helps!
@@shannonmay Thank you so much for getting back with me. My husband and I currently live in Honolulu HI. The homes here are about $2840( military houseing ) apartment $1492 or $2790( small space). To afford homes some work 3 jobs. Anyways your a big help to us so we have something to think about.
Andrea I would say your experience in Alaska is slightly more extreme but Montana has to be similar. There's two types out in big sky, Bozeman, and the rest. The rich, and those that serve the rich. The wealthy only tolerate the poor folk because otherwise there would be no one to make tacos, or cheeseburgers, or pizza. Or beer, or go change their tires, yeah you get the idea. The haves and the have nots are so far apart in Montana. And this is an outsiders opinion, Ive visited the state ten times.
If you want honesty I would say the people of Montana are not the friendliest, but as with any broad generalization it's also not completely accurate. Jobs are plentiful if you're ready to work 2 or 3 low wage service jobs... yes it should sound familiar to Alaska.
Thanks for your feedback! This video highlights what it was like to live in Montana for me (as an out of towner) -- just a friendly reminder that not everyone will have the same story. It's a beautiful state and I hope that was reflected in the video :)
Happy early birthday! Also, Montana is one of the most peaceful places to live. Even in 2020 here in my hometown the max COVID cases we’ve gotten is 100.
I want to live there as soon as i graduate med school. Wonder how the night clubs are lol. It looks so beautiful like something out of a movie, cant wait to meet new people and work my passion there.
This video was pretty entertaining to watch.....nothing better than a beautiful & down to earth kind of girl. The name Montana sounds very "Native American" I assume you guys have a rich history up there.🇺🇸🇯🇲🌴☀️🌴
Hi Shannon... I am planning to visit Montana next year. My bf lived in Helena, and I am so excited to see the beauty of nature and everything.. Thanks a lot for sharing your life in Montana.. Hope to see you there soon.. 🙏😊
Thanks for the kind words, rosemarie! That’s so great you will be able to see Helena where your bf is from. It’s a special place up there! Have a great day ❤️
Montana can be beautiful, especially during the summer. It is getting crowded if you enjoy camping at campgrounds, but you can dry camp if you know special places. I live on Hauser Lake (part of the Missouri River) and every day I want up, open my eyes, and see the lake. It's not as inexpensive as some people think. And yes, we do have our share of hicks and hermits, but if you move to a city (Missoula, Bozeman, Billings) you can find anything you want. The winters are dark and closed in so be prepared for that.
I can’t wait to move from Fl to Montana! i have been there on my trucking trips, and I love it! I don’t mind the weather, actually I know how to embrace it! I can stand this fl heat, nor it’s drivers! Thank you for uploading!
Born and raised there for 26 years. Moved from MT to FL this year and now I want to move back lol. I really, really like the people here, and can't stand a lot of the people in MT, but I'm a loner so liking the people isn't a requirement. I just miss the sparse population density and the mountains.
I remember we had a road trip for work one of our aircraft E145 broke we had to change a tire # 3 and number 1 break, the jack couldn't even lift the aircraft past the snow level, it was a really really bad day and it was sooo cold, eventually we had to go back to the hotel and next day they arranged snow to be removed around the landing gear, it was still cold, but we were able to get it done. A week after that my crew chief asked me if I wanted to go to the same spot to put thrust reverser on MEL I tod him screw you
Montana: The land of harsh, unpredictable weather that puts all your plans in jeopardy. Terrible internet/phone service. Endless two lane roads. Dangerous animals.
It rains (and hails!) a bit in the spring and summertime. When it does, it usually rains for the whole day. Hope this helps! Montana is a beautiful place if you love the outdoors :)
Phanic if you don't want to leave the mainland of the United States I don't know if you do or not if you do I'd suggest Alaska or Hawaii. Houston Texas gets a lot of rain according to people I've met that use to live there. Florida gets lots of rain south Florida gets the most I believe. I would suggest western Washington forks Washington or Oregon like Portland or coastal oregon coastal Washington state. If you want the most rain america has to offer I would suggest Guam or Hawaii or Alaska at least portions of Alaska anyway hilo Hawaii is one of the Rainest and wet places on earth. But if you want consistent rain and don't want to leave the contiguous U.S. then I would suggest somewhere in the southeastern United States or north eastern United States such as New York or New Jersey but if you want coastal mountains and lush temperate rainforests not quite tropical jungle or rainforests you'd see in Thailand or south America Indonesia Borneo or Vietnam laos or southeastern Asia I would suggest Washington state or Oregon. The wet mountains of colorado I'm not sure if the wet mountains of Colorado get tons of rain but their called the wet mountains for a reason. Colorado as whole doesn't get much rain. Far northern Idaho does get quite a bit at times and the clear water river valley where you'll see fern pretty far inland. I'm not sure where you live now but I'm guessing in a place where it rains a lot or doesn't rain very much at all
Originally yes, but they put us in a Bozeman hotel which was too much of a commute/danger during the winter on that road. We found a condo in the meadow through Facebook and cancelled the employee housing. Definitely, recommend booking employee housing early so you don't end up in the Bozeman hotels!
I'm a little late haha, but I'm so glad you posted this video. I go skiing in Big Sky every spring break and I'm interested in taking a gap year out there, but I wouldn't be a good enough skiier to teach lessons or anything. It's great to see your experience!
Thanks so much for watching, Lily! Ahhh super jealous you guys go to Big Sky every spring break. Bet you had a great time this year with all of the snow. Definitely recommend a gap year out there -- best decision I ever made to enjoy the winter ski season + improve my skiing. Check out jobs with Big Sky Resort, Yellowstone Club, or Lone Mountain Ranch. Coolworks.com has some great job listings in the area! xx
Shannon May Thank you! I will look into that! And yes, this year had AMAZING snow and I'm so sad the winter season is over. Thanks again for sharing your experience! Best of luck to you on you future adventures! :)
Good luck with finding housing! Employee housing was full when I applied.. so had to look for a place in the meadow + find roommates while I was there. Apply ASAP if you haven't already!
This is terrible. What have I learned here....nothing ! Picking clothes and freelancing ??? Please post some REAL and unique info about Big Sky. That is why I checked this out.
if you work at big sky resort did you ever know a girl named Cassie Callahan? she's from Alabama, and she works there allot during parts of the year Im a friend of hers
Unfortunately, I only worked at Big Sky for one winter season (2017) -- never met Cassie. It's definitely a great place to work! The ski pass is the best perk :)
My region in Brazil (Serra da Mantiqueira) is similar to Montana except for snow in winter. I've always liked mountain regions and your video is very nice to watch.
Definitely recommend taking a lesson and easing into it if you ever try skiing. It's a great way to experience a different side of Montana! Skiing actually made me like snow / winter :) Have a great weekend!
My grandpa died there 😣 from a car accident and is his birthday today my dad was born in Montana and I live in Arizona like the hottest place like ever but i can handle snow and hot days lol
I'm so sorry to hear about your Grandpa passing away. That's the one bad thing about the states -- there are too many drivers on the road. Hope you and your family are doing ok xo
I am from Costa Rica ( the tropics) so I live in the complete opposite kind of climate! LOL but... I have always dreamed of living in the woods, hunting , snowmobiling and skiing, since we can´t do this here in Costa Rica and Montana seems like my dream state to live. I´m just a bit scared of those winters...
How cold does it compare to New York ? Is it colder ? I´ve been to NY during winter and it was tolerable but I´m not sure how colder it is in Montana. Thx!
I fucking miss it so god damn much. Wether or not my quality of life had improved since leaving, I feel like I belong there. God damn my life. Helena was the best damn thing that ever happened to me.
I think being cute goes a long way in being a shop girl! =] Can't wait to make it out to big sky, I went to salt lake twice last year. I'm from Baltimore snowboarding is not the best here.lol
Thanks so much for watching! Good question -- Haven't lived in Montana for about a year. Went backpacking in Europe after the winter ski season in Big Sky and then lived in Germany after that. Definitely missing the mountains in Montana though!
Yes! Here's a link to a Life in Germany Q&A video :) ua-cam.com/video/MTLMwwD58io/v-deo.html Have a great week! Thanks again for stopping by on this video
Oooh there will definitely be more vegan options in Bozeman, MT if you're thinking about moving to Big Sky. One of the grocery stores in Big Sky (Roxy's Market) does carry specialty / healthier products, but it's pretty expensive compared to the stores in Bozeman. Hope this helps!
I lived there for several years. I eventually left due to the racism that I experienced. It's a great place to live if you're blond-haired and blue-eyed though. I now live in NYC..I do miss the mountains and some great people that I met. It's too busy here in NYC, but at least I don't have to worry about being harassed for my skin color :(

You're correct!!!
Where is the interview with Joseph Seed?
It’s never truly warm in Montana. Even in the middle of July you might need a jacket. I’ve lived here my whole life (14 years) and the biggest thing to learn is to always have a sweater around.
It gets hot. I live in MT and need air conditioner in the summer.
ava c Great Falls was HOT this year.
I like how cold it is up here
ava c it’s still 80 degrees today in Great Falls in October👍🏼
I have lived here all of my 44 years and it gets in the high 90's and over 100 frequently in the summer. Montana is a large state with some diverse weather. You should get out more.
i live in billings mt and it great because no sales tax
That's great! We lived in Billings for about a year before moving to Big Sky. Loved running along the Rim Rocks before sunset!
me too.
That doesn’t matter u live in the shittiest state in the country
@@TheGimicalFreek you obviously never driven thur Montana
It’s no land for the timid....
I like the video keep up the good work I'm in Greenville South Carolina I just wanted to see what Montana's like
Im from Texas and never see much snow. What are the roads like during the winter??? Fear of being stranded.
How long has it been since you transplanted to Montana Shannon ?
Hey @@glennschaub6303 - a new job took me to Utah! Hope you had a great weekend
I want to temp live out in MT Bozeman to train and climb in winter time any places you recommend
Thanks for the video! Are you still in montana?
Thanks for watching! I'm actually in Utah now for a new job
Damn, Montana looks like the country that I'm looking for. God damn, I need to wait until my retirement. So much space... :/
You won't regret moving to Big Sky Country! The Bozeman and Whitefish areas are beautiful :) Near the mountains, good food, and fun towns overall
Shannon May since I'm from Europe, it could get a little difficult to move. I think there are to much differences between my current life and the US (salary, social security, etc.). But there's no doubt, that I'll visit the north soon. :)
Sounds good! I'm visiting Europe now :) Currently in Germany and loving it!
Ah well, which part of germany? I'm from a tiny neighborland. :)
Jackles G Currently in Berlin! Explored Cologne for a few days last weekend 😊 Very beautiful country.. so much history!

As a Texan, I love my great state but, I've been really considering moving to Montana💖 I love mountains and lots of Nature.
No
Woah! I live in North Carolina where the mountains 🏔 are at but there’s no snow lol 😂
There wasn’t much about living in Montana in this video. Glad you are having a good time. Please consider changing the title.
Montana is closed, but I hear North Dakota is nice
Boomdog84 you’re right go to North Dakota much nicer
Did you make enough money with the seasonal work to pay the rent for your apartment and other bills?
What's the music u're using for the opening?
My cousins live in Big Sky Montana and I live in Utah
Amazing! Both great places :) Been through Utah a few times
Montana is beautiful but I don’t do well with cold and snow. Texas is nice for me
Thanks for watching! Texas has some nice areas too :)
I lived in Montana (Billings) my whole life and I couldn't imagine anything different, and yes I know big sky's and all that with the cold, but it's Great!
Dear Shannon:
My husband(who's in the Navy) and I are looking into moving to Montana. You are a wonderful insite to what's it like to live in this state. Are you able to tell me what kind of jobs a person would possibly get with a Associates, bachelor degree. and how much homes roughly cost.

@@shannonmay
Thank you so much for getting back with me.
Sweet gal, but I think the video title is not accurate for the content. I learned virtually nothing about what it's like to live in Montana.
Thanks for your feedback! This video highlights what it was like to live in Montana for me (as an out of towner) -- just a friendly reminder that not everyone will have the same story. It's a beautiful state and I hope that was reflected in the video :)
I'm thinking about moving here when I turn 18 and get thr cash I'm 17 now and 18 in October 8th I live in new Hampshire now
Happy early birthday!
Best of luck wherever life takes you! :)
yeah just out of a movie like nightmare on elm street
There are no night clubs
This video was pretty entertaining to watch.....nothing better than a beautiful & down to earth kind of girl.
The name Montana sounds very "Native American" I assume you guys have a rich history up there.🇺🇸🇯🇲🌴☀️🌴
Actually Montana is Spanish for "mountains "
Hi Shannon... I am planning to visit Montana next year. My bf lived in Helena, and I am so excited to see the beauty of nature and everything.. Thanks a lot for sharing your life in Montana.. Hope to see you there soon.. 🙏😊
Thanks for the kind words, rosemarie! That’s so great you will be able to see Helena where your bf is from. It’s a special place up there! Have a great day ❤️
@@shannonmay You are most welcome.. God bless you more and your family. Continue to inspire people.. You are deseved all the love and support.. ❤️
Rebekka D. Thanks for the comment! :)
I can’t wait to move from Fl to Montana! i have been there on my trucking trips, and I love it! I don’t mind the weather, actually I know how to embrace it! I can stand this fl heat, nor it’s drivers! Thank you for uploading!
Thanks, Mike! The dry winters are amazing. Sounds like you have some cool stories from your trucking trips
Born and raised there for 26 years. Moved from MT to FL this year and now I want to move back lol.
I really, really like the people here, and can't stand a lot of the people in MT, but I'm a loner so liking the people isn't a requirement. I just miss the sparse population density and the mountains.
Montana arguably has the most beautiful summer of any state except maybe Idaho.
A week after that my crew chief asked me if I wanted to go to the same spot to put thrust reverser on MEL I tod him screw you
I've been thinking of giving Montana a shot in regards to relocation. Thanks for the video! It looks like an incredible place.
Thanks for watching!
Montana: The land of harsh, unpredictable weather that puts all your plans in jeopardy. Terrible internet/phone service. Endless two lane roads. Dangerous animals.
;)
Montana for the win
Oh yes! It's a beautiful state :)
Um how much does it rain there? I love rain so much and I think I want to move to Montana =]
I'm not sure where you live now but I'm guessing in a place where it rains a lot or doesn't rain very much at all
I thought nobody lives in Montana and not for the weather...
Depends on if you like snow! :)
Nobody does and don’t believe what Shannon tells you , she’s a typical transplant .
Basel Abdallah there’s about 1 million people here so not a lot but there are ppl here
i lived in kalispell for 2 years and miss it
Did you stay in employee housing? Is it hard to get a room?
Originally yes, but they put us in a Bozeman hotel which was too much of a commute/danger during the winter on that road. We found a condo in the meadow through Facebook and cancelled the employee housing. Definitely, recommend booking employee housing early so you don't end up in the Bozeman hotels!
FAR CRY 5 BRING ME HERE
Fatahillah Ramadhan haha haha same
😂😂
Only yooooouuuuuuuu.......
Thanks so much, Lily! Same to you :)
8 month cold winters!! That's tough.
I live in south central Montana. When people think of beautiful Montana they are thinking of western Montana not central and Eastern Montana.
Nice! There are definitely some really pretty parts in central/eastern Montana :)
I got skiing in red lodge
Red Lodge is so much fun! A lot cheaper than Big Sky too -- the tickets can get crazy pricey at the bigger resorts
Tell me more about Montana
What kind fruits u can grow
What about job
How easy can get job
What warmer place n good city to live
I hear Socal is good for freelance but it's easy to get stuck in one place without a car
I got a job as a line cook I’m so happy and feel blessed😊
Have a great winter ski season! :)
Shannon May thanks I appreciate it
Shannon May from what I’m hearing the housing is a lot like military housing so that should be fun
My mom and I want to move to Montana. It would be hard to adjust to the cold weather from Hawaii but it’s way cheaper and it looks so nice too
High mortgage. Low paying jobs. And a growing meth problem and homelessness is on the rise

Question? Do you still live in Montana?
Hi there! In Utah now for work, but visit MT a lot :)
if you work at big sky resort did you ever know a girl named Cassie Callahan? she's from Alabama, and she works there allot during parts of the year Im a friend of hers
The mountains are amazing! We'll have to visit Brazil sometime - your home region sounds like a beautiful place to explore :)
I am retired and I loved Kalispell etc.
Kalispell is beautiful! Thanks for watching :)
hello friend I am new to your channel excellent video, I like montana a lot, it is for me the most beautiful state. greeting
i live in montana but have never been skiing☹️
Definitely recommend taking a lesson and easing into it if you ever try skiing. It's a great way to experience a different side of Montana! Skiing actually made me like snow / winter :) Have a great weekend!
Thanks for the video about sking. Least you are there.

I live in Montana too, wonderful state
My grandpa died there 😣 from a car accident and is his birthday today my dad was born in Montana and I live in Arizona like the hottest place like ever but i can handle snow and hot days lol
I'm so sorry to hear about your Grandpa passing away. That's the one bad thing about the states -- there are too many drivers on the road. Hope you and your family are doing ok xo

Thanks for the advice! LOVE Glacier and the Huckleberry beer in Whitefish :)
Yes, I love the fruit beers in Montana. I enjoy the same beer you like. I think Black Star produces it.
Emil Phoryew We stopped by Bonsai brewery. Cool place!
All talk about herself. Nothing about Montana. Another of that "generation".
They are chilly! 4 wheel drive is a must in the winter :)
I live in Montana and one time I saw a llama
Heh. We have lots of llamas in my town. They’re so cute.
Awesome video. It's 2018 how you like it now?
Thanks so much for watching! Good question -- Haven't lived in Montana for about a year. Went backpacking in Europe after the winter ski season in Big Sky and then lived in Germany after that. Definitely missing the mountains in Montana though!

Ahh. Never skiing. But made sure my kids did. I'm terrified of Avalanches.
Take things one day at a time your young. I am thinking about going to the University Of Montona!
Thanks, James! You'll love going to college out in Montana - definitely recommend it :)
Do they have any good vegan food places
Oooh there will definitely be more vegan options in Bozeman, MT if you're thinking about moving to Big Sky. One of the grocery stores in Big Sky (Roxy's Market) does carry specialty / healthier products, but it's pretty expensive compared to the stores in Bozeman. Hope this helps!
Montana is a free State where one can carry a gun and not get a bunch of shit about it!
I lived there for several years. I eventually left due to the racism that I experienced. It's a great place to live if you're blond-haired and blue-eyed though. I now live in NYC..I do miss the mountains and some great people that I met. It's too busy here in NYC, but at least I don't have to worry about being harassed for my skin color :(
Enjoy NYC! Take a day trip to Cold Spring - some good hiking there :) Lots of people though sadly on the trails
lived here for years
Nice! Montana is a great state :)
