  • We don't normally work on sub £100 headphones but I thought it may be interesting to see how some entry-level studio headphones are made.

    I bought a pair last year as my outdoor headphones (I'm not bold enough to rock chunky DT770s in public).
    Straight out of the box, I really didn't like them, too clampy and muddy sounding. Leaving them stretched over the box with music playing overnight really improved them. The EQ profile preloaded into the Qudelix 5K got rid of the last bit of muddiness.
    I was worried about the wobbly hinge as well, but it hasn't got any more wobbly with use. I changed the cable for a shorter straight one right away. I recently bought some sheepskin pads from eBay, they improved comfort, and the sound became clearer/brighter.
    The big downside for me is that they seem really prone to produce a whistling noise when they catch the wind, my friends tell me even their active noise cancelling headphones don't fix this, but I don't remember it being as much of an issue with the beyerdynamic DT231s I owned years ago, I didn't wear those outdoors much though.

      Yeh wind noise is one of those things not a lot of people talk about but it varies a lot from model to model.
      Perhaps I will live with them for a bit and see if I warm up to the sound

      @@CustomCans how do HD25s do for wind noise?

      An update just in case any owners of these headphones happen to be reading this:
      I found the sheepskin pads to have very boomy bass when the EQ was switched off. I tried some pleather perforated/fenestrated pads, they did bring the bass down to a normal level, but also decreased isolation (which the DT240s were really good at) and just sounded flat and boring. The sheepskin pads went back on, and I covered the bass ports up with tape in which I poked holes with a needle. They are now still bassy, but the bass is a lot more tight and punchy.

    the part where you said it was more likely to brake was the part where my headphones broke today, I’m planning to just super glue it back on

    I heard that the plastic part surrounding the headband is, like you suspected in the video, indeed a part prone to failure. I got a sweet deal on some Sony MDR-7506 and chose them instead.

      @@CustomCans Can confirm this firsthand just now. My pair that I picked up back in March just broke at the point that you suggested would be the weak point at 9:12. Unfortunately for me my Beyerdynamic account that I haven't used since buying these headphones is "disabled temporarily" so now I'm questioning my choice a little lol.

    I have a bit of a weird question. I'm looking for headphones just to listen to music and watch films, wearing them outside. And I kinda like a form factor, usually wear them 24/7) I was looking at DT240 and HD25. Are the HD25 worth that extra money? Thanks.

    • @CustomCans
      @CustomCans  Рік тому +1

      That is a tricky question. The HD25 will press on your ears a bit more some people find that uncomfortable for long periods but I suspect the HD25 will last longer as they are nearly indestructible and all the parts are easily user replaceable

      We don't stock these so don't stock spares but it would be worth contacting beyerdynamic as they sell spare parts for most of their headphones

      I don't know, it is a personal taste kind of thing. I liked the DT1350 but I have not heard loads of closed backs so I am sure there are better things out there
