Ten utwór pochodzi z roku 1975. Pierwszy raz usłyszałem go pod koniec lat siedemdziesiątych. Komunizm już wtedy w Polsce wchodził w fazę schyłkową. Słowa "a po nocy przychodzi dzień, a po burzy spokój" dawały nadzieję, że nic nie trwa wiecznie, komunizm też. To jeden z najpiękniejszych utworów w historii polskiej muzyki XX wieku, w czołówce różnych polskich rankingów muzycznych. Kochamy w nim wszystko - głos Cugowskiego, słowa i muzykę, dla polskiej duszy wystarczjąco dynamiczną i porywającą. Pozdrawiam z Polski.

The strength of this song is its calm/slow tempo, the amazing voices of the singers and the lyrics - very atmospheric, dark, gothic, a bit like from a horror movie. How can you add faster sounds and some cheap effects to a song like that ?
There is no DEAD space as the lyrics count so much. In Poland poetry is of vital importance and lyrics are often very poetic and are an inseparable part of songs. I believe the issue here lies in expectations - different songs are designed to elicit different emotions, convey different meanings, and suit different occasions, even within the same band. This particular song tells a beautiful story and evokes a dream-like sensation in the listeners, similar to what the protagonist of the story lives. The lyrics are not meant to complement the music; it's the other way around. This song serves as a musical way of telling the story, which is why it adapts to the given lyrics and enhances their emotional meaning. Here’s the story stripped of its poetic cover: As a traveller, you find an abandoned, cathedral-like mansion where you take shelter from the coming tempest. Its gothic atmosphere and the effect of the fire burning in the fireplace put you in a trance, leading you to dream about a woman resembling the ideal depicted in the stained glass windows. In the dream, she holds a rose that you gave her, and your souls feel like they are flying over the world when you are with her. Then two contrasting things happen - on the one hand, the night, the darkness, and the fury of the storm all end, as a shining morning comes and the birds wake you up, banging on the windows - just like in life, where after troubles, peace always follows. But on the other hand, you realize that you cannot live in the dream forever, and the mundane reality of everyday life hits back. You have to immerse yourself in it as usual, but... there's still that feeling of the dream you hold dear, almost as if you were still holding that rose in your hand, maybe slightly faded, but still there, reminding you of that beautiful experience that you can carry with you into your new day. If you knew Polish well enough to follow the words as they are enhanced by the music, you wouldn't want it to go any faster or more intensely than it does before the finale.

The thing is that the song is telling a story and it is inspired by a Opera and the singer he is a lead vocalist of a rock band but he has an operatic voice range. And this is amazing live
It's great that people are open to other cultures and listen to songs from different countries :) The band "Budka Suflera" is a cult band in our country and I don't know anyone who hasn't sung it at least once in their life :) Thank you for reminding me of this song - listen years later and you will understand what her phenomenon is :) Best regards from Poland.
The construction and rhythm of the sond is subordinated to the text. If we have gothic, dark ballad, even with an apparition (sung by Urszula), it would be hard to tell it in funky rhythm. Choice of organs on the beginning is also not accidental in this tale, also a part in a capella. Text and music in Polish songs are often unity, you had that before in the song of Marek Grechuta, when the text was even more important. Anyway I am happy that you try to "sink" into Polish music, sometimes you may be really surprised.
If’s funny you think using this legendary rock ballad as some kind of electronic beat would be a compliment to the quality of this song. It just shows how huge are the differences between generations and between cultures. Also, if it sped up faster, there would be no build-up and no atmosphere, which comes from the interplay between the music and the lyrics. Songs which go into crescendo in 30 seconds from the start tend to be flat and uninteresting, as is the case with much of the modern music. However, big kudos to you for saying honestly you didn’t like the song. Not sucking up to your viewers is rare and worthy of respect.
Hi man, great video! Polish people really can into music! Not many knows that here in Poland we have one of the best black metal scenes in the world with many great bands and incredible musicians. I can recomand checking out Mgła (band from Kraków) - Exercises in Futility V with Darkside on the drums, preferably the video with drum cam from the concert!
Usually, these 'boring' parts are used to create an ongoing background that doesn't capture your attention away from the lyrics. Of course, I understand it is a very difficult song, especially with the quality of this recording, making it harder for a foreigner to fully appreciate. The lyrics create incredible imagery, enhanced by the powerful voice of Mr. Cugowski. It truly is an incredible piece of art.
These songs were made in longing for freedom. Remember this part "but after night comes day, and after storm comes peace" good times always come after hard times but sometimes you need to fight for them.
I can't wait for you to finally learn our language and see the different nuances in this song and in this lyrics. It will probably take a few years and I won't live to see it, but believe me - then you will change your mind about this song by 180 degrees. Peace be with you and enjoy your freedom, brother! Freedom in Poland!
I think the thing with this song is that it's kind of a sung poetry. When you focus on the lyrics the instrumentals do not seem that boring 😅 Without it, I agree that it might sound boring at times. I think that equally representative classic polish blues/rock music is "Dżem" band - highly recommend, especially "Czerwony jak cegla" song, if you are looking for instrumentals ;)
This song has been giving me chills since forever. The one disadvantage is it's too short. The part with the voice only is amazing in the concerts. And I absolutely LOVE the drum switch near the end.
Older polish music wasn't meant to be an aesthetic experience only. I mean sure, polish musicians looked for freedom in playing western genres. The thing is back then musicians were highly intelligent people. So for one lyrics were super important and often poetic-- today they're not at all -- but more importantly they were meant to bring hope, uplift AND pass censorship controls. No one was allowed to critique the system nor express desire for this system to end. Songs were secret letters to the people. I was born 5 years before Poles battled down the system, read tones of books about it and still can't truly imagine life in those times. I don't think you can grasp it with a different cultural background, not wanting to look up translations of the lyrics and probably having a different musical upbringing. I laughed when you said the woman's voice could be turned into a background for a fast beat or that the song should contain some fireworks way sooner because it was made for people who had their lives ruined, sometimes taken away; for people who meant nothing; for people who were spied on by secret police agents and sometimes by their own friends or family who got in trouble and were forced to do that and report back to authorities; for people who stood for hours in lines to buy ham or toilet paper and many times went home empty handed; for people who had gas, sugar, cigarettes, fats and other stuff rationed; who had political officers at work; You might want to learn the context first before rating an old rock song. It won't make you like a particular song more, that's not the point, but you won't come off as ignorant.
You making one mistake. Polish songs are mostly poetry with music so when you listening them without understanding lyrics you missing a lot. I recommend "mamo tyś płakała" ua-cam.com/video/gfqYpunru8I/v-deo.htmlsi=UIE9mdhmpHAiOPiU
lyrics is the soul of this song. It was composed in times when artists were under comunist censorship. this song is way more then the bass you are focusing solely and it is power lies between lines
Sorry but if you added some idiotic boom tick-tick to this song it would be like destroying the fresco by Elías García Martínez "Ecce Homo" in 2012. The song paints a gothic story through images sung by the brilliant Mr. Cugowski, listening to the song without knowing the meaning of the words is like reading poetry in an unknown language. Introducing some beats or oddities to this work would be a real sacrilege.
Hi, I'm from Poland and I've been listening to this song from decades a I must disagree with you. When you understand the lyric and the background, polish life at this time then you feel that this song is very good balanced and emotions, drums, guitars are in correct places. First part is very poetical and music is only the background after that the flower is coming. Your interpretation is too technical :) regards!
Music is an accompaniment, that highlights the text ;) That's what I hate in modern music- text with zero sense but with obnoxiously loud and complicated music...
you're forgetting that singing is also about words, not just about melody. For you it might seem boring, but there is a story that you could be listening to. Also, his subtle flexions in the pronounciation make this even more interesting, as you would not hear it in spoken language. And its really a ballad so we cannot expect faster peace.
It's really interesting to see your perspective on the Polish songs. I don't know why, maybe because to us the lyrics of this song are so much a part of the whole I'd feel it's too much if they added anything more to it. I think the strength of the song is in the long build up. I really appreciate your opinion though. I grew up with this song so to me it's almost too obvious. There are many Polish songs completely different from this one, even by Budka Suflera. I think this one stands out and that's why people want others to react to it. React to "Jolka Jolka" Woodstock2014 also by Budka Suflera. If anything at least to see how Polish people feel about the song.
music is like a dress, it decorates a person. But the most important thing is what kind of soul the person wearing these clothes has. And that's the point of this song.
The song comes from the album "Shadow of the Big Mountain." The album contains one of the band's greatest hits, the title "Shadow of the Big Mountain", inspired by the tragic death of two Polish mountaineers, Zbigniew Stepek and Andrzej Grzązek in August 1973, in an expedition in which dreams collided with the lack of support from the communist authorities. The song listened to here also has the tone of a difficult journey towards the peak - hence the repetition and change of rhythm. It tells the story of a man who had to take shelter in an abandoned house during his climbing and he dreams of flying over the mountains with a beautiful stranger, but then is suddenly woken up by birds on the window. The wanderer reluctantly moves on.
this is a very well thought protest song, they had to avoid the censorship understanding the real meaning of the lyrics. the part when voices are in the void is intentional, cause they wanted those words sink it with all of their weight.
If you want more dynamics: Breakout, Maanam, Republika, Brygada Kryzys, Lech Janerka. Film music: Krzysztof Komeda, Jerzy Matuszkiewicz, Wojciech Kilar, Andrzej Korzyński, Adam Walaciński. Most talented modern musician in my opinion: Hania Rani.
it's a beautiful song, but I really like "Let's save what we can" ,,RATUJMY CO SIĘ DA ,,by BUDKI SUFLERA and the text is great!! If you want to understand, translate for yourself!!!😀
I was drinking with my friend listening this song and we tear this song apart for interpret line by line. There was vodka, pickles, bread with lard and all that polish shit. We get to the source of this masterpiece. That was awesome night. I remember nothing.
Probably many people before me said this, but lyrics are half of this song, and listening the song and reading lyrics apart like takes away this specific charm of the song. Second, well there's also personal tastes so that need to be accounted for and for third as someone raised in different culture you might not exactly see why people really like that song, because you were raised to like different kind of things. For me it's one of the best songs of Budka Suflera, but well that's my taste, so I'm aware noone have to agree with me on that.
In case of Polish songs, the lyrics are on par with music in terms of importance. Especially the older songs. If you want to get a real grasp of Polish music, always find songs with lyrics. And maybe even redo the reactions you have done so far once you know what the songs are about.
it means egzekutioner in polish, one of first thrash metal bands in the world (but i wouldnt describe them like that, theres much variety) but its so unique and vocalist is a polish legend. one of the bands performing live like on albums or better :)
This was much more a study in American culture than in Polish one. Talking more than listening; getting bored when something doesn’t cater to your particular taste and not trying to understand it in its own right; looking at the piece without understanding context, having more opinions than curiosity 😅 I am sorry to point it out, I offer it as a friendly observation.
You dont need ADHD beat to pollute good song. A loot of polish songs do that. Where you have more or less complicated instrumental, and then it goes silent or simpler to let vocal shine.
Music is strongly coupled with lyrics. The way I understand it is there are some great moments in our life (like wedding, which is mentioned in lyrics) - and first increase in drums dynamic is when that is being sung. But then lyrics say that after every great moment comes everyday reality which is often hard. And when music goes quiet on that lyric it hits hard. Also I find it really sad that even though I am fluent in English I find it hard to understand songs the same way I do in Polish. Apparently for poems being a native really helps.
@WheresWes this is one of the most ascetic version of this song. If you really want to feel the vibe and power of this anthem have a look on the versions recored in Jelenia Góra '85 festival or Woodstock 2014 (!)
This is a political song and not so much an instrumental. I love it because I understand the lyrics. You must realize Polish history to know what the artist wants to express. First is the storm, and then is the calm. The people fight, and then the government create a calm, and again, people move ...
Man, this was composed 3 year earlier then my birth date, it was 1975. Compare it to something from us or UK exact time, but this was Message to ppl under communism opresion, believe me for us Poles this is huge Message even today.
From old rock, most Manam albums and hit songs are to recommend. They are more original in style, with great lyrics (also like a poetry). There are so many good Maanam songs so there is hard to pick one or two, but definitely early albums are more dynamic and thus maybe of interest to you. From old rock, also Ayar RL - "Księżycowy Krok" and "Ściana" - incredible climate and chilling lyrics. You need to take them in context of Polish history and censorship. Lyrics are even complicated and heavily poetic, so even natives have hard times to get the meaning. You have to think about it and it's not obvious and multifaceted, as often poetry is. Of course, modern polish rocks is also very good, especially like Hey early albums and many more. Polish music scene is very reach and even we Poles know only friction of it, and we can stumble across older masterpieces constantly (alas, rarely in radio, which usually plays very bleak, pop music).
I encourage you to listen to the works of the outstanding Polish artist Igor Herbut, solo or with his band Lemon, e.g. the song Papier from the album Tu

These songs were made in longing for freedom. Remember this part "but after night comes day, and after storm comes peace" good times always come after hard times but sometimes you need to fight for them.
at this point, I think I might got addicted to your analysis 😂
Pierdolisz tam, świetna piosenka i aranżacja też
I think some things shouldn't be rushed. I think it was perfect in my opinion.. Thanks like your channel....😊
4:50 Uszula's horus was already used as main sample in Cywil - Po Nocy Przychodzi Dzień
Again, do not forget ,this music was created in DIFFERENT TIMES.
I like listening to you because you are intelligent and specific.
This song has been giving me chills since forever. The one disadvantage is it's too short.
The part with the voice only is amazing in the concerts.
And I absolutely LOVE the drum switch near the end.
Check out the lyrics - then it will make sense
You should try live version of this one! Thats crazy power
It won't make you like a particular song more, that's not the point, but you won't come off as ignorant.
you should see the version: krzysztof cugowski & przyjaciele jest taki samotny dom
Polish rock. 1975, in comunuzm time
I was in elementary school in Poland when they created this music.
😋🤘
You making one mistake. Polish songs are mostly poetry with music so when you listening them without understanding lyrics you missing a lot. I recommend "mamo tyś płakała"
ua-cam.com/video/gfqYpunru8I/v-deo.htmlsi=UIE9mdhmpHAiOPiU
lyrics is the soul of this song.
I go over the lyrics in the video
Kłamiesz 😂@@WheresWes
@@WheresWes That's not the same
This is a karaoke classic. During the choir at the end the whole bar always goes bonkers.
Wilki - Son Of The Blue Sky next please! Lets try out Polish music with english lyrics!
Piękne❤
Music is an accompaniment, that highlights the text ;)
That's what I hate in modern music- text with zero sense but with obnoxiously loud and complicated music...
you're forgetting that singing is also about words, not just about melody. For you it might seem boring, but there is a story that you could be listening to. Also, his subtle flexions in the pronounciation make this even more interesting, as you would not hear it in spoken language.
And its really a ballad so we cannot expect faster peace.
Mira Kubasińska - Wielki Ogień
0:19 Not Suflera's booth, but a Prompt Box 🙃
music is like a dress, it decorates a person. But the most important thing is what kind of soul the person wearing these clothes has. And that's the point of this song.
Listen to “Ragtime” by the same group. There is Polish and English version, both are fire
The space in song is for listener to follow the voice. Today they keep shoveling shiet in song that they almost become noise. Simplicity is the power.
this is a very well thought protest song, they had to avoid the censorship understanding the real meaning of the lyrics. the part when voices are in the void is intentional, cause they wanted those words sink it with all of their weight.
If you want more dynamics: Breakout, Maanam, Republika, Brygada Kryzys, Lech Janerka.
Film music: Krzysztof Komeda, Jerzy Matuszkiewicz, Wojciech Kilar, Andrzej Korzyński, Adam Walaciński.
Most talented modern musician in my opinion: Hania Rani.
I would love a reaction to Stan Borys - Jaskółka uwięziona, Alicja Majewska - Odkryjemy miłość nieznaną or Grajmy Panu - Anna Szałapak.
it's a beautiful song, but I really like "Let's save what we can" ,,RATUJMY CO SIĘ DA ,,by BUDKI SUFLERA
and the text is great!! If you want to understand, translate for yourself!!!😀
I was drinking with my friend listening this song and we tear this song apart for interpret line by line. There was vodka, pickles, bread with lard and all that polish shit. We get to the source of this masterpiece. That was awesome night. I remember nothing.
Holly hell, 6.5 out of 10 for this masterpiece and I already know that our tastes are nothing alike.
Check out "Zbigniew Wodecki - Lubię wracać tam gdzie byłem", mister Wodecki is a Polish icon! love this song so much
I agree, check out Zbigniew Wodecki
Could you react to Chopin - Polonez op. 53 (Heroic) and op.40 (Military)?
cool suggestions I'll try some classical music
@@WheresWes Pls react to Natalia Kukulska - Czułe struny [Polonez As-dur]. That is Chopin's Polonaise turned into a song.
Budka Suflera its a classic from the 80s - the organs its a CORG if I remember it correctly 😢
You dont need ADHD beat to pollute good song. A loot of polish songs do that. Where you have more or less complicated instrumental, and then it goes silent or simpler to let vocal shine.
jeszcze jest -...cien wielkiej gory !!!
Ta piosenka opiera się na brzmieniach Wagnera. a więc ciężkich jak w jego muzyce, tekst jest niesamowity poetycko.
Lublin ❤
Music is strongly coupled with lyrics. The way I understand it is there are some great moments in our life (like wedding, which is mentioned in lyrics) - and first increase in drums dynamic is when that is being sung. But then lyrics say that after every great moment comes everyday reality which is often hard. And when music goes quiet on that lyric it hits hard.
Also I find it really sad that even though I am fluent in English I find it hard to understand songs the same way I do in Polish. Apparently for poems being a native really helps.
just as u said it, i think people usually listen to the remix of that song, some edm versions
Justyna Steczkowska - Sanktuarium
the music is going from 1 to 4 to embrace the lyrics - > after night comes the day, and after the storm comes the calm
Przepiekne
If you only look at the music and don't delve deeper into the lyrics, it's like eating ice cream through a window.
Gościu bierze się za komentowanie naszej klasyki i mówi o nudzie, bo lubi inną dynamikę, who cares?
You must try it Republika- Biała Flaga, the most popular old polish rock with combination of piano and guitar
Po nocy przychodzi dzień.

WOW!
If you want to hear more of this women voice it's "Urszula", you can look for "Konik na biegunach" by her.
Nie no proszę cię przestań z czym do ludzi😅
I encourage you to listen to the works of the outstanding Polish artist Igor Herbut, solo or with his band Lemon, e.g. the song Papier from the album Tu
