Matt is a keeper! Working so hard to make your dream come true. I am lucky enough to have a husband who does the same. 38 yrs and he still makes my heart go pitter-patter! LOL We are so blessed.
I originally did this on the 7’x25’ run. The burrowing critters went right under. I ended up digging down about 4” inside the run, making a basket under the entire interior of the run, attached to the frame. Then I replaced the soil, threw seed down and covered with straw. It has prevented the gophers from eating all the feed, and I have greens growing inside the run now.
Holy moly ..that's alot of grueling work all for those little chicks and Heather..all worth it of course..yes..herbs and sunflowers. ❤🐤🐥🐤🐥🐤🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🐤🐥🐤🐥🐤🐥🐔🐓🐓🐓🐓🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
It's gonna be a beautiful chicken coop Heather you're blessed to have such a hard working husband hes doing a great job. I've been following you since you were pregnant I really enjoy your videos you're a great teacher I learned so much from you.
@@TheKneadyHomesteader what I loved about the demo is that Matt didn't come across as a know it all. He was relaxed and your son did a good job in catching it all. Actually, I think both of you are pretty decent teachers.
I am SO happy to see how you are preventing predators from digging in. When it is planted it will look really good. You will have super safe contented chickens!!!
What a great job! It's the Taj Mahal compared to the coop and run we built so many years ago. No wonder we lost several chickens to the wily fox! I am very impressed.
Glad I watched part two lol my goofy self thought I had to run that hardware all on floor inside 🤷♀️ your way is cheaper and easier thank you brother 😁
Hey Heather 🤗 Wow Matt doing a super great job .. 🤗🤗🤗 He did a good job with the camera and very thoughtful about not having mosquitoes get you’ll .. we also have mosquitoes.. you have a super hubby Heather.. very thoughtful and take good care of you and the family .. .. I ‘m also bless with a good hubby that help me.. so there keepers... been married 29 yrs and now our kids are married out of the house... and glad when they come to visit like your boys come visit you .. oh I got one of my hubby tractor tire and put sand in it like you did works great .. you both are doing a super job on the chicken coop.. can’t wait until your next video Take care stay safe 🥰🥰🥰🥰 Blessing 👩🌾
This looks like a great coop, very secure and well built! Chickies will be safe, make lot of eggs, Heather makes yummy goodies with the eggs, everybody happy in the house! --Shirley
Absolutely wonderful !! That info on the roof pipes and brackets will REALLY help me with my outdoor pen for my cats. I would like to share something I have learned from working with hardware cloth... that top edge separates VERY EASILY. I highly recommend you hog-clip again four or five spaces lower to reduce the stress on that top edge. (You'll be so sick of clipping, but I promise it will be a good thing.)
Hi Matt, you’re doing a great job to have a great chicken run, and protect them also. It’s a beauty. It looks great covered like a fort as you said. The chicks got big since I’ve seen them lately.Hi Heather, how are you? Hope kids doing well. You did a wonderful job Matt. God bless you and yours. 👍😎😎👍👍👍🐓🐓😎🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓😌
Every minute of your hard work is going to be worth it! That's certainly an attractive as well as secure run. I'm sure its residents will enjoy their stay in it! God bless your family with safety, too. : )
Great job Matt....you have really worked hard on this project. I do think it is critter proof. Looking forward to seeing a video of it later on when Heather's sun flowers and herbs make their presence known, it will be beautiful. The chickens are going to be so happy in their space they will be laying great big happy double yoker eggs. Have a Blessed day...all of you. BTW Heather, have you named this chicken palace yet?
Great chicken coop. I hadn't seen a pair of hog ring pliers since I was girl. I had to laugh. That wasn't how my Dad used them but looked like it worked vrat.
@@TheKneadyHomesteader sorry to be getting the cart before the horse!! Lol. Love y'alls videos. Thanks for sharing. These are helpful in many ways during these trying times!!💛💛
It is best not to light up coop. Animals can find the coop easier.maybe a motion sensor solar light? For the vents we cut one front and back andcovered with landscape cloth. And we only covered one vent in winter. We live north Michigan area. Best thing we did was use plastic coragated piece under perch. It is 15"wide and length of perch. It just lays on coop floor and slides out for easiest clean up each day. Free from local sign shop and we sent over a dozen eggs .you are going to have a great time with the chicks.
Good job! I know how hard it can be working with hardware cloth, trust me, having built multiple coops and covered many windows, constructed a lot of hinged screens to cover the windows, etc, etc, etc. We have so many rocks around here, we put those on top of the dig barrier as well and stake it into the ground. No digger is getting into yours! Did you get the pics I emailed of the covered bantam coop we did a few years back? Hey, I made oatmeal raisin cookies today myself, what kind is Heather making? ~Cyn
Heather from experience you might want to leave your chair outside of the run when your not using it. The little chicks will end up getting on it and making a mess. It is looking awesome!
Which area of Tractor Supply was it in? I looked today and couldn't find them. I couldn't ask anyone that work there because I couldn't remember what it was called. LOL. Another great video.
We had ours in our green house and have 4 doors with fine heavy little squares on it. We had a chipmonk got in somehow eating the food. I guess they can flatten themselves to get in cracks under the doors. I worry about weasles getting them. We have hawks so I had some in our huge dog kennel and we had a top on it till we got in the coop.
The gate looks great. I think you got everything. It looks like fort Knox. Love the painted tire. Those babies are going to have a blast. Even if something wants in, it will get tired of trying and leave. Do you have any ideas on how to keep black snakes out? KUDOS TO MATTIE
I have a question I'm sorry to bother you it is not about chickens or anyting but I made some grape jelly and some apple jelly and some orange marmalade jelly each one had six to eight cups of juice in it can I put 5 to 7 cups of sugar and one box of pectin it has not turn to jelly it is liquid can I redo it and add more pectin or what do I need to do
i am not sure, if you canned it already? you could try to reprocess it. always test the set of your jelly before canning it. I use frozen spoons. Keep some soup spoons in your freezer, and when your jelly is ready to be canned, dip a spoon in it and see how it sets up. if it drips right off without becoming thick, then you know your jelly isn't ready. sometimes it needs more pectin but usually its due to not hard boiling it long enough or hard enough. jelly is trickier to make than jam, since juice is harder to thicken than a berry or fruit with natural pectin already in it. but definitely part of the learning process. ❤️
oh thank you!!!! This chicken run is just as strong as the day he built it. We have since added a metal roof on a slant over it to keep the girls dry. It's solid!
Praying for dear Matt's family ....may they find the strength they need in the days ahead . .
Matt did such a thoughtful job building the chicken coop. I know he is looking down from Heaven encouraging you on your road to recover.

Fort Knox indeed!! Heather you're so smart; pre-seasoning your chickens!!🤣🤣 The chicks seem to be healthy and enjoying their new surroundings. 🐥🐥🐥

What a great job on the kennel. Thanks for sharing. How do chickens get in their shelter? I've used vinegar on me yo keep skeeters away.
We made a pop hole for them, using a doggie door. That video will be up tomorrow. :D

Here's a thought, put solar lights around the base with

i am afraid Geddy would dig them up! hahaha We do have 2 big solar lights though....one for the front of the coop and one for the back.

Did you only hog ring it on the top? Is only the dirt keeping the bottom in place, or did you use some other form of connector?
Just curious how do you winterize you coop and your chicken run? Thanks.
This is great!
