    Thanks James for dispelling a belief I had that Hawaii a place to cruise, because of the lack of suitable anchorages. I still think you need to be creative when choosing, and some of those anchorages still seem pretty exposed for my tastes, but you indeed proved that you can cruise the islands. Also, we have adopted your method of setting the anchor. You mentioned in one of your videos that you like to pay out 100' of rode, set the anchor and then pay out the remaining rode. We used to pay out all the rode and then pull back to set the anchor. Your method really shows you if the anchor is set early on. I slept better that night.

      Yeah there is tons of cruising in Hawaii you just have to time the island passages right. Good to hear the anchoring technique helped you, like you mentioned it lets you know right away that it’s set 👍🏻

    Every Friday morning as I start my day at work I watch your content. I can't express how good of a mood this puts me in. Thank you for sharing. This world, this life has so much to offer and I thoroughly enjoy what portion you give to us.

    I LOVE your videos! There was a wonderful little Italian restaurant close to the Kawaihae harbor called Cafe Pesto that was one of our favorites. It went out of business during the pandemic, unfortunately...you would have loved it! If you are ever in Hilo on the other side of the Big Island, they have a location that's still in business there.

    Thanks. You have been showing that indeed, Hawaii can be properly “cruised” . Love the very clear water and reefs/rocks to dive. Yes, anchorages can be rolley but doable. Your boat looks very nice. Love the hard dodger. Great design and with the large opening ports very useful. Would loved to have had one on my Alberg 35. Wow. One reason I like cruising Mexico and Panama is the prices are great. Much cheaper than the US. Especially Hawaii. Oh well, everything is a trade off.

    I stay near the Kohala Coastline, if you stop by Kawaihae checkout Seafood Bar instead of Kohala Burger! 🤙🏾

    I love the landscape prominence of the big island . They views of the volcanos rising up from sea is impressive, It’s so vast and blue waters to contrast.
    That look in your eyes at kohala burger is epic 😂🤣 and the cookies 😂🤣 classic J

    I just want to commend you on the video production. The cinematography is great (of course, IT's Hawaii!), but I was struck by how great the audio editing and selections were. LOTS of water sounds of course, we love that, we want to be on the boat with you, but the close shots with the near sound then the constant in the background at just the right level with very little music. When you DID select music, it was PERFECT. Beautiful. Just amazing. So well done!

    Perhps too late, but I suggest that as you round Keahole point you hug the rocks and stay close in until Honokohau harbor. The north current can be strong, especially on falling tide but the shallower water slows it down. It gets deep very close to shore and the strongest current is over the steep drop.

    I think if I watch any more Hawaii videos I'm going to have to go there as soon as possible.
    Hydrovane looks very cool. Belt and suspenders -- and ratchet clamp straps.

    I really enjoy your videos. It's quite a journey you're on and the videos are really nice. For me as a Scandinavian (Norway) of course sailing around Hawaii is quite exotic. The question is whether they have cows on the big island or on any of the islands at all and whether that is why burgers are so ridiculously expensive. Kimberly is funny and has a nice personality (at least as we see her in the videos). She is colorful and is a nice contribution in the videos. Have a nice trip (in the videos, I know you are now in Tahiti).

      I believe it is called the Parker Ranch ( on the Big Island ) one of the largest ranches besides the King ranch in Texas, being the largest.

    • @Hvitserk67
      @Hvitserk67 2 роки тому +1

      @@seanwalsh999 OK and that's why the burgers are ridiculously expensive. Anyway, thanks for the information. I have heard that a lot has to be transported to the islands from the other states in the USA and that is why the price level is generally high in Hawaii, but it probably varies. On the other hand, most things are expensive if you are far enough away from larger cities and distribution centers.

    Great video. Best bet in Kohala is a bento(box lunch) from the gas station. Kohala Divers is a wonderful dive shop and I absolutely love Makalawena.
    Hopefully in the next video you make it to Ultimate Burger in kailua kona.

    In the same tradition of the Hawaiian Heiau so too is the burger shop. Each french fries is passed person to person from Idaho and that's why they cost $11, I think.

    That's their way of getting out the inland folks seems too me. Wow !! That's insane. Over priced only is the easy way of saying it. That's one place i refuse to visit although all i hear is of the beauty. Those island folks DO Not like people from the lands and i hear they make it known . As my uncle said.

    In Bermuda in 1986 I bought two 14 dollar cheeseburgers, then I ordered two long island ice teas, 16 dollars each, that was 1986 money, what's that, like 20 something dollars for one drink. Bermudas beaches were beautiful but the moment I stepped off the plane I was interrogated, they went through every thing including my papers in my wallet, not a good way to start my vacation, I was treated like a criminal, Bermuda👎

    • @SailorJames
      @SailorJames  2 роки тому

      I arrived to Bermuda by boat in 2016 and had the exact opposite experience, yes things were absurdly expensive as you mentioned but the customs officers we dealt with were super chill and nice and found as a free place to tie up on the quay.

    What?! You stop filming as you get to the beautiful White Island but not while you’re on it? Grumble. Grumble.
    But quick question: do you ever toss a case overboard to see it you can catch some lobster?
