    Thanks for putting together this video. Keep in mind body roll changes load distribution between the ground and your wheels. The more your body rolls, the less traction you have on the wheels you're rolling away from (e.g. less traction on left wheels when turning left). Not a big deal off-road but, in conditions where consistent traction is important, sway bars help.

    I haven’t run a sway bar in my 09’ Taco for over a decade. Only con is body roll, and I pucker up going around turns fast 😂.

    It's not truly independent front suspension when you have an anti sway bar. They are literally connected making them NOT independent.

    • @exsix
      @exsix 9 місяців тому

      ur not wrong but u are ... all the sway bar does is twist with resistance. it's not like a solid axle sway bars flex.... so it is independent.

    • @garrykennedy5484
      @garrykennedy5484 9 місяців тому

      @@exsix Whether it's a solid axle or IFS, it does the same thing the same way. It greatly reduces body roll for obvious reasons. Handling is greatly improved. When you remove the Anti sway bar, you then have true IFS. Not so with a solid axle. The left and right wheels are affected by what the other does. Both types of axles benefit greatly off road either way when the Anti sway bar is removed.

    Cool. Imma try this and see how well it works with torsion bar ifs, I saw a video of my exact car off roading and the front suspension would not flex at all, and it would only pivot on the rear suspension. Maybe its because my sway bar is 1.5 inches thick....

    Agree. I have an old 86 Suzuki Samurai bone stock with no travel and leaf springs. For 5 years I drove it with the sway bar connected, because I thought just how much could it help disconnecting it. Well, I finally took it off completely and it rides like a Cadillac now, on road and off road. The body roll on the street is nil to me. That was 4 years ago, and the sway bar is still laying in the back yard.

    3:01 bushings don't determine the flexibility of anti roll bar .. if your bushings has that much play !! you need new bushings .. the sway bar twist under load thus the bar stiffness will determine the car behavior .. in some cases (racing drift offroad etc) you can experiment with different sway bars to achieve the desired behavior

    I removed my front from my 2013 silverado and I love the articulation I get now, it's not any crazier turning at speed from my seat experience, like you're gonna die lol but I love the amount of roll it gets at speed it's almost perfect. I also added a rear hellwig bar and traction bars to firm up the rear and aid in spinning the tires so that might effect the whole truck a little bit as well. 😂

      Suuuper tedious to remove and reinstall every time you wanna hit a trail. Then you have to worry about where you’re gonna put it, especially if your bed is full of stuff like spare tires, tools, recovery gear, etc. I do know that Jeep guys can have a quick release option that disconnects it. Even more modern trail vehicles can come with it from factory

    Thanks for the video. By it is fantastic offroading, what type of offroad do you refer to? It seems most people are talking about slow speed offroad when talking about sway bar delete. I wonder if it is not great on road with body roll, it would be dangerous for fast off-roading. Am I right?

    • @desertdime
      @desertdime  Рік тому +1

      I do fast off-roading primarily and it is a night and day difference. The only time it’s dangerous is if you’re making an abrupt sharp turn at high speeds, but at a certain point it doesn’t matter if there’s a sway bar or not. A sharp abrupt turn at high speeds can make it roll over with or without one.

      @@desertdime Thanks for reply. I drive 5th gen 4runner and thinking about deleting front sway bar. I often drive long distance trail/gravel roads with 4 passengers and full of cargo. I want to go as fast and comfortable as possible. Some people are saying it is fantastic to delete and some people are saying in this scenario, people in the back get motion sick immediately. What is your experience with that? Probably it is good for a light weight vehicle with 2 passengers in the front?

    • @desertdime
      @desertdime  Рік тому +1

      @@RealeaD Given that you’re in a 4 runner and I’m in a Tacoma the weight distribution difference might make a big difference, so I can’t speak to that much at all. I said your best bet is to just take it off and try it out for a trip or two. If you don’t like it off you can always put it back on in a matter of minutes

    Obviously you don’t realize the bar has a torsion effect. The links and bushings are solely for mounting purposes. It transfers road input from each side in unequal situations. Definitely useless for off road use when max travel is the goal.

    Now scientifically, removing the front sway bar will be reducing front grip. Reducing front grip will actually lessen the chance of a steering-induced rollover. But yeah like you said, center of gravity still remains high and the load still transfers. Idk, maybe they cancel each other out 😆
    I've been running without the front sway bar on my 19 taco trdOR for a couple years now and I love it. I also trimmed the foam inside the seats for a softer and better fitted feel so that also helps big time. Used to have bump steer with the bar on, a bump in the road with one or the other front wheel would jolt the steering wheel left/right and try to lead the whole truck into that direction. It was a chore just to daily on local busted roads. Sort of feels like a boat but with tires. I mean it doesn't feel like a boat in a bad way.
