I said it before and I'll say it again... Zoe, you aren't a teacher.... You are a Master! I love your classes. You always give the "why" and "so that" for every lesson. I'm not a fashion illustrator nor do I draw anything. You're so funny and clear with your instructions. I love watching!!!! Thank you for your amazing classes!
I have just started illustration class at school, and trying to draw for the first time and in one of your videos you said "hashtag if your first one sucks youre right on track" and I could not be so thankful you said that!
i love it how you start with the basics and you explain everything so simply! never stop making videos, they are soo helpful and even a beginner like me can improve so much, thank you❤
ruffles, shirring n pleats video is awesome... thanks zoe.. i came to knw whr i ws doing th mistakes.. tried n there is some improvement in me.. my ruffles n pleats now look like ruffles n pleats.. 👍😊💕
Thank you so much for uploading your tutorials. They are really helping me learn so much just siting in front of my laptop. Your explanations are very clear and makes it very easy to understand. :)
Thank you so much. Your tutorial helped me a lot as im still figuring out how to do these illustration of how the fabric manipulation would look . Btw I am a fashion student.
My god, the legs on those girls are incredible! They’re so mesmerising I literally couldn’t take my eyes of them. And the way you illustrated that gathered silk charmeuse tea length skirt… Ah-maz-ing! #drawinggoals
hahahaha~ Most people hate things until they get more comfortable/more skilled with it. I think the more you practice, the better you get, the more you'll like drawing.
Hi zoe, have you found out what that technique is called the shirring gathering effect on the skirts the pull effect? I would love to learn how to do it but i cant even look it up without a name!
GREAT!!!!! video Zoe. Watching your videos and how it all comes together just makes it seem so easy. I've never drew anything in my life and learning to sketch is something that I've always wanted to learn but, never could stay focused. How did you learn to stay focused as a beginner in sketching fashion figures? Terry Love
I learned in school and I was a pretty driven student. I've found that school often helps discipline people, even if they don't remember individual lessons they learned.
#practicenotmagic. needed that. Why go sunbathe in this 98º weather Brough by this heatwave and risk skin cancer when I need to be working and practicing my drawing to create my portfolio. Go Zoe! Go Zoe!
Thank you again for all the greatness you are sharing with us ☺ Do you have a video where you address the level of detail the flats would have to reflect relative to these types of garment details? Thanks again! ❤

Hi beautiful u doing great work I'm learning much much from you I'm beginner in fashion designe getting so much knowledge from you need me some advice from you about fashion please thank you if you don't mind
Thank you Zoe.... This makes everything even better for me as a young designer... I wanted to know how I could get that book online so I may download it as a PDF.... Is that even possible? Btw what's the name of the book?
sosososososo thank i see your video every everyday my school is not teach that um.. i don't speak english . . . just i want say !!! many many thank you!!!!
Hey Zoe, I purchased the book that you showcase in this video (The Art of Manipulating Fabric). The book is AWESOME, but was wondering what pages you have marked in the video. As a beginner, is there any pages that you would suggest I pay more attention to? LOVE your videos!!!! (Especially the Draw Anything and "It's Practice, not Magic!"
>>As a beginner, is there any pages that you would suggest I pay more attention to? No, because it's a primer for everything. It really depends on the manipulations you're most interested in. I never read it straight through. I would skim it all so you know the basics of what tucks are, what pleats are, and then deep dive into the subjects that interest you the most. Make samples with some muslin. That's really the best way to utilize the book.
When it comes to landing a entry level designer position for a major label, how important are illustration/sketching skills? What if my patternmaking, draping, sewing and garment construction abilities are on-point but my sketches are very crude and not so aesthetically pleasing? Will it be more difficult for me. ALso, I've been using 9-heads book to supplement your videos. Hopefully it just takes time to develop my illustration skills. thanks
If you want to work for a major label, you have to be at the top of your game in all areas. The bigger the label, the more competition there is for those jobs. None of your work can be crude. Your drawings don't have to be the most gorgeous ever, but your sketches have to communicate your designs clearly. If you're trying to be a designer, fresh ideas, effective, quick sketching, and good flats are key. Understanding construction is important, but that comes second. But if that's what you're good at, maybe product development is where you need to be (tech designers, pattern makers, etc.) They usually make more money than designers anyway.
Probably not. Sewing's not really my jam. And the illustration/design/product development/costume history queue is already 13 months long. Maybe if I run out of stuff to talk about. Haha~
you're the best one!!! I have a question, which mines (mains) do you use?? (i don't know how to say it in english sorry... but i mean the pencil!! Sorry and thank you again.
I like mechanical pencils from Pentel. They aren't too expensive and work well. I get different size leads (.5mm and .7mm) and different leads (HB, B, 2B).
Hi Zoe. I was wondering whether you need a masters to teach fashion you are are, and, if so, where did you study for it? Can you suggest masters programs in fashion?
Depends on the school. The university I taught at didn't require it--I think they preferred industry experience. I have a BFA. Some will require a MA or MFA in fashion or similar.
Hey Zoe thanks for the lovey video!! I have a small doubt! If one wanna draw suspenders or any vertical line on bodies, do we need to follow the center point and make curvy lines (like you thought from the waist in first video of this series- wraparound) Is it same concept or we need to just follow the position of body and draw?
Wraparounds are for horizontal lines: stripes, waistbands, and hems mostly. Vertical lines should follow the contours of the body. Suspenders will sit on or near the princess seam line, up and over the breasts, around the curve of the shoulder. Does that make sense?
I said it before and I'll say it again...
Zoe, you aren't a teacher.... You are a Master!
I love your classes. You always give the "why" and "so that" for every lesson. I'm not a fashion illustrator nor do I draw anything.

+Zoe Hong hahaha ok, thanks anyway though!! Love you
what's your pen name!? is it a new pencil?
What is the book you are referencing?
Quick question, what’s the see-through paper that you were using called? Anyway, thanks for the video!
marker paper
I love you😭😍😂
Hi Zoe:) I was wondering, what book are you using in this video with all the different pleats?
It's Collette Wolf's book on fabric manipulations. Written in the video description.
you're the best one!!!
From where did you get those figures? I want to print them too. Can you help?
I made them. I'm compiling them into a book that I will sell at my etsy store soon.

Hey Zoe, I just wanted to ask you from where you get the models book? thanks
What models book? You mean the fashion figure templates? I made those. You can buy mine at zoehong.etsy.com.

What is the name of the fabric consultant that you previously interviewed? I cannot find the video.
Ivy Moya. I took down the video at her request because she was getting too much traffic.
Umm i love your videos
But can you make them a lil smaller and specific..... 😇😇
