this is how everyone should learn instead of just having students on the pads and heavy bag for 2 weeks and then into sparring with someone who doesnt go easy ur basically there to boost the confidence of the top fighters of the gym, so many bad coaches in the UK
Just had my first spar. I felt damn good on the bag, hitting the mitts, moving around the ring, and the moment a punch came towards my face, it was nothing but closed eyes and wild swings. Humbled big time. Moment I came home I found this video.

What a good trainer. It's obvious you care for and protect your fighters and help them develop. Lots of boxing trainers are not so careful with their students and leave them in the dust to "toughen them up". It takes time to develop good defensive skills and confidence in those abilities. A fighter that doesn't have them developed shouldn't be fighting competitively until they do have them. Good work Shane.
My eyes were open first match I was just very gun shy throwing 10 punches a round and focused on defence. Didn’t let my hands go at all, I was against a much taller longer opponent. Lucky He wasn’t a big puncher and I didn’t get hit clean as I caught most of the shots on the gloves. He let the tiger out the cage in the last 30 seconds and backed me up with volume. I will learn from it and come back stronger.
This is such a great video for people of all experience levels - but esp beginners who havent yet learned defense - to watch. This is indeed something vital, to keep your eyes open AND watching your opponent at ALL times esp when you are blocking and defending and throwing strikes, even when you get hit your eyes shouldnt leave the opponent.
Love watching MMA fighters teach boxing. Very entertaining. First time I had seen anti-flinch. Never seen it in a real boxing gym. Keep up the good comedy.
Man i've been following your work for years and I have to say that I am never disappointed. I have been coaching for quite some time, but I always remain a student to the game. I appreciate the refresher and a different outlook on defense! Thanks champ!
I remember the way his channel was back in 2011 when I was fresh out of highschool. He has really developed his channel and career.Hes even a better fighter. So proud of Shane Fazen.
This is the reason why less technical and veteran practitioners beat me at sparring if I’ve been a long time with no sparring at all. I flinch. I close my eyes and a react like a little girl. These drills can substitute intense sparring sessions in order not to lose the antiflinch attitude. Really nice!
Anti-flinch Drill is like : *in annoying 5th grader voice * not touching can't get mad... not touching can't get mad.....not touching can't get mad....
One of the best videos (and Shane has a lot) from him. The coach I have does this similar routine in partner drills with everyone for an hour. Great stuff Shane
I love that first drill, I've been boxing for 4 years and I've been competing a lot for the last year, and I still have that problem, I get tense when I'm in the pocket (inside) and I look away, its a really bad habit but I'll definitely use these drills, thanks shane
He's a clever master. He's working, what a lot of masters, didn't working: the emotions! He's found to accept his student have fear, and ok! Let's working it! Not ashaming his student, but building his confidence. Shane-sensei ( in japanese sensei means, "the one who comes before you) ,my deepest respects! Vc detona!!!( You rock! In portuguese). My first fight was just awesome i learned so many techniques from your videos that I used in the fight. This fight was like 6 or 7 months ago. For real thanks for the help❤.
Shane this video/drills were incredible! Simple yes, but that's what you need. Super effective in practice , and video gave us plenty of stuff to work with. Much better than most defence videos I've seen, thanks for sharing your tricks
love your box content, FT. even though you're diverse with martial arts content you know the basics and importance of a good foundation of the sweet science.
As usual SPECTACULAR video and recommendations on improving oneself! Can’t wait to practice these cuz I’ve literally been looking for something like this all week!
I started to training boxing, because I trained other martial art( For a matter of ethics, I won't say it's name, but they like to told beautyfull worlds, but into the time of actions....🤦♂️) and the senior students liked to used me as a living target. When I asked to them to teach me the techniques, like Fazen-sensei did to their student, they riplied:" You learn alone,by yourself into the ring!" My senpai ( older brother) took me to the boxing ,after heard this. When my boxing couch, learn about it, he would want to go to that gym, and punch my former "coleagues" in the face! Thank God, I learned boxing: one of the most generous and respectful people I always meet! May Jesus be alway taking you Fazen-,sensei ,your beloved ones, and your students, under his guard and protection! Tamo Junto!( In portuguese: We're together!)
Hey Shane i was watching a few of your old vids and saw that you used to use the philly shell alot but dont seem to anymore is there a reason for that or is it just not good for competion.
Harry could be wrong but I box myself (almost for a year now) and in amateurs I’ve heard people aren’t too big on using it because it’s as a more complex experienced defence
Ppl call it the Philly she'll but it came from Michigan UA-cam Mayweather Sr. Talking about where he learned that defense from I'm from Detroit and a 2x World Champion just had 2 put you up on a lil game👍🥊
It can be a good defence if you know how to use it properly i use it alot when my shoulder is fatigued from punching you can block an incoming punch with your shoulder which can set up a devistating right hand... That style is not for everyone though
Defense is exactly what i needed right now. I'd been out of the ring for a few months and when i came back and did some sparring I was so jerky and flinching a lot which just led to me getting hit a lot. Completely lost my fundamentals and didnt even know where to start
Would like to see you spar with Jeff Chan from mmashredd! You guys are both amazing and I feel like collaborating will be beneficial for you guys and your viewers :D
Unbelievable Shane i love watching your very interesting videos man! You have tremendous experience thank you for sharing your experience with the public! One cannot buy experience it takes years and years... I have been boxing since 5 years old and still learning via you! Thx Shane!
Excellent drill! This is one of the first things i work with my students when they first put the gear on. Keep it up my friend!
You know it's good if WB is doing it 😎👌

First, gotta see this before the enemy
Got the FIGHTTIPS before your opponent did 😉
I Remember My First Match,
My Eyes Were Nothing But Close
That's very common, man! I'm sure you've improved a lot since then 🔥
I had the opposite. My eyes were so open I had really dry eyes for the next 2 days and caught the edge of a velcro tab to it.
@@gagemcintyre3207 I didn't know that was possible did you at least win

I've never thought of "protecting my bubble" instead of just focusing on protecting my actual body, that makes so much more sense. awesome content
*I'm quite an expert at this*
Just drink LOTS of caffeine and don't go to sleep and it works!
_Just look at me!_
That's one way to do it! 😋
I don't think this will prove effective, but the stuff in the video makes a lot of sense!
hahahaha..noob try that with two bottles of energy drinks and 4 cups of coffe
I am still new to boxing, and I didn't really think about the pillar block, so now I'm going to try add that to my arsenal to get my defense better
Making it look so easy Shane. Really inspiring to people who want to learn the fight game. Respect to you.

This drill only works with light to mild contact. Its not just about the flinch before the punch it's also about how composed you are after the punch
