Ahahahah, my friend and I tried exactly the same thing constantly every week, in hopes that he would receive some kind of "update"... ...To this day, I remain ever hopeful.
It was 1992, I was 8, and my IT-illiterate Year 2 teacher used to pull me from reading comprehension to sit outside in the corridor on the BBC Micro and parse/decode Podd, like I was some kind of genius.
Such an old memory for me at school .. some janitor or someone was like showing off what podd could do .. I was kind of amazed watching this and, it was really oddly compelling and fun, had me glued for the short amount of time I was allowed to see it.
I remember my grandmother worked at a school and brought me in to show me this... they had been making a hand-written list of the commands they'd found. My preferred sequence was EAT -> BLUSH (to mimic turning green) -> BURST (same results as explode)
I remember getting dragged out of class by the classroom assistant/TA around 1991 to be given a guided session on this. In my head she had a clipboard as well and it felt very 'assessed'. The weird thing was that it was on all the time anyway in the classroom, and we used to take turns diving in front of the kid sat down with it to type POP (same as explode in this video) much to the annoyance of the kid trying to find some undiscovered animation, so I didn't understand why I was being tested on it. Also at this time it already felt very dated, and the whole experience as a 5year old felt already really quite patronizing. I'm pretty sure at home my brother already had F29 Retaliator on his PC, and I was already big into Elite on the Acorn Electron, and I was being assessed on my ability to type three letter words into this fever dream.
played this once, during a school excursion to the local university, 30 years ago. I might have thought of perhaps 6x of these, as a seven year old (at least in the 30mins that we had)... and I guess I've always wanted to see what else Podd could do. But sheesh... submerge? bawl? leap?? Wow, guess I can't be too hard on my 7yo self.
Judging by the number of comments here all relating to school in the late 80s/early 90s, I reckon some jammy 17 year old managed to win a lucrative contract to have this afternoon's work piped into all the primary schools in England, so they could tick a box to say they were teaching IT to kids.
and "pop" and "chortle". There were apparently 116 actions (some similes due to the restricted memory of the BBC Micro). My Dad and I worked out over 100. Never could get them all.
I remember finding Podd can burst and dance and being highly disappointed that poo, wee, wank, and bum elicited no response. I am now allegedly an adult and I am still disappointed by this. Am I immature?
@@endoflevelboss ok, some 8 years before I was born and then I started my reception year at school in September 1993, I was in Year 1 when Windows dropped

Emma Selwyn or fart lol 😂

‘Pod can SHIT’ sadly never worked
he can, but doesn't want to show you
the verbs I typed into this as a child would have made my mother cry and my father question his purpose

Haha I still remember Podd from my childhood days at school.. I’m 41 now.
Me too as I would still look back on this lol.

Bbc acorn. Love it. 1985
There's definitely a whole lot missing from this but thank you for the nostalgia!
PODD - Person-Operated Design Display.
After all this time I can finally see which part of his face is his real mouth! (It's been a while)

Why did I enjoy this?
This was my first experience with a computer. Must have been around 1986/7.

I'm not very old at all but I'm certain we had this installed onto the computers at my primary school
Remember this from year 1 primary school aged 5 in 1987
Any kid that came up with submerge. Hats of to ye.

No. Own it. Our minds were as filthy back then as they are now. 😂
