It's great to see my friend Rob Trek doing what he does best: being an Instructor 👍. Keep it up, Rob. One day those idiots at Olympus/OM SYSTEMS will realise that your UA-cam contributions are far more valuable than the money they splurge on so-called 'ambassadors'. They must (rightly) owe you $1,000,000s by now. Even for professional technical photographers, like myself, your UA-cam videos are the No.1 'go-to' technical reference. 🤝
Hi, Rob, thank you for showing what I had asked and clarify it and also thanks for alerting me on your other video. You take good care of your subscribers. 👍
Hi Rob, by watching this video I was able to set my EM1 MKIII to save RAW to slot 1 and LSF JPEG to slot two. I have wanted to do this for some time. Although the menu is a bit different it was still easy to follow from your video. Since changing to Olympus micro four thirds 18 months ago I have learnt so much from your tutorials. Thank you for all the help you give on your you tube channel.
Thanks Rob! You helped me too with using the front dial on manual mode. I could not work it out. Thanks so much for sharing your wealth of knowledge. It is so helpful, especially for beginners with Olympus cameras. I went from Sony to Olympus because the zoom lenses are a little too heavy.
Two things I prefer my em-1 iii over the OM-1. First: the ability to configure a Custom Timer in AE Bracketing (I find it unjustifiable that they removed this function)! Second: Using the new 90mm Macro (which I received last week and it's wonderful) the performance of the em-1 iii is far superior for Focus Stacking (not for speed), with much less errors than the OM-1. I wonder if OM System isn't differentiating its products in this way. In my specific case I have these two Cameras and I use them for different purposes. It's almost as if the OM-1 wasn't the evolution of the em-1, but another Camera, specialized in other things (in the case of the OM-1, Wildlife and speed shots with better AF).
I can't speak too the focus stacking as I don't do that much. As for losing the custom timer on the bracketing, that was a big mistake. However, there is a kind of workaround. Use HDR bracketing and set a delay for silent shutter in the first menu, page 7. You'll be stuck with +/- 2 or 3ev, but you only have to touch the camera once. You could do it in AE bracketing, but you'd have to push the shutter for each bracket.
With regard to the back button focus: After playing with the AF settings for a while I found that for me the most convenient way to use BBF is to set "AF-ON in MF mode" (the first AF menu) to "yes" and then, if I want to use BBF, set the focus mode to M. The AF-ON button still works, but half-pressing the shutter button doesn't change the focus. So you don't have to change settings for the shutter button which you might forget to reset before your next shootings. With the focus mode set to M via the manual clutch, however, this does not work - it disables the AF-ON function.
Hi Rob. A brilliant technical video as always. Question - if you disable AF when half pressing the shutter, (as described in the first part of the video), does that stop ProCapture from working?
Hi Rob. Your videos are excellent. How does pro capture work if you use bbf? Do you have to depress the shutter 1/2 way as well as the af-on button? Thank you!
Thanks for all the great explanations, they have been an immense help. I just have one question. At timer point 13:37 it states that AE is fixed when this setting is set to YES during sequential shooting. Does this override the settings used by SH2?
IMO I find with subject tracking back button focus is obsolete for myself. TR + continuous focus still is not very good so I guess it can depend on what you shoot.
How can I set up dual or triple BBF like I do on my R5? I want to have all AF points, then push a button and have spot AF. I have the lever set to switch but I want a button. Regarding Vignette in PL6, the best vignette is using the NIK Color Efex Pro 5 plug-in.
Thanks for another interesting video. If I have my EM1.3 card slots set if slot one fill it will continue writing to slot two. If I use 32 gig cards in slot one and 128 gig in slot two, can I keep swapping out slot one cards during a trip and slot two will capture all cards as a back up. Will that work?
I believe so. Slot 2 will only capture the overflow so you won't have duplicates on Slot 2. Just be sure you have the file formats matching between Slot 1&2. Put your fastest card in Slot 1. If they are all the same speed, probably better to put your 128 in Slot 1 and swap out Slot 2 with the 32s. That way you won't need to swap as much.
Hi Rob....I would like to set BBF to Lever 1 and normal shutter AF on Lever 2. I'm unable to to do it. Am I missing something as I did managed to do for my previous E-M1mk2.
Hi Rob! Nice videos, thanks! A couple of questions. 1) What happens with the 1.1.1 OM IMAGE SHARE app? Looks like it doesn't work with Androids. 2) Looks like .orf files generated by OM-1s cannot be managed by any processing software for linux, like Darkroom or Rawtherapee. What can you say about that? Thanks!
Hi. OM Share works on my Android phone without issue. As for 3rd party software, unfortunately it's up to them to update their software to be compatible with new cameras. I don't use Darkroom or Rawtherapee, so can't say if a workaround has been found. Sorry I couldn't help you more.

Thanks, Rick. If only a fraction of that amount could make it my way!
Fully agree.
Rob, you are the best!!
Rob, you should write a book on the OM System OM-1 and also the OM-5.
Hi, Rob, thank you for showing what I had asked and clarify it and also thanks for alerting me on your other video. You take good care of your subscribers. 👍

Well thank you so much! Such a simple thing to have missed. I appreciate your time to answer. From steamy tropical North Queensland. 😊
You are so welcome!
Rob, Thank you for your videos. They have been very helpful in setting up my Olympus OM1. Steve H

Thank you so much for answering my question, I will try this out later
Glad to help!

Hi Rob, have you done a video on the OM 1 flash settings menus and what they all actually do. thanks, love your channel. 👍
I haven't done that. Thanks for the idea. I will try and make one this week.
Hi Rob. A brilliant technical video as always.

No. Pro Capture will still work.
Hi Rob. Your videos are excellent. How does pro capture work if you use bbf? Do you have to depress the shutter 1/2 way as well as the af-on button? Thank you!
Yes, you have to half press the shutter button to activate procap. AF-On only activates focusing.
Thanks for all the great explanations, they have been an immense help.
I just have one question. At timer point 13:37 it states that AE is fixed when this setting is set to YES during sequential shooting. Does this override the settings used by SH2?
Yes, the exposure will be locked in SH2.
IMO I find with subject tracking back button focus is obsolete for myself. TR + continuous focus still is not very good so I guess it can depend on what you shoot.
I agree. I think AF is so good now that BBF's use is more limited. The non-subject tracking on Olympus is still terrible.

Rob, Hi there, whilst I dont own 1 of these bodies, who knows what may happen in the future?
I'm happy to help you make a new purchase when you are ready.

@@RobTrek just for your info: release 1.1.1 of OM SHARE has just been debugged and now works fine again with Android latest security patch.
