That bottom snare mic is pushed so far back that it’s creating a slap back echo. Definitely doesn’t sound intentional probably a editing error. But the top mic sounds great. Very much eqed sound. So I could see it being handy in a live setting where your pressed for time so having something you can set and forget is handy.

I'm glad you did a demo! I love my snare mic!

Bought one, with loud snare, API style preamp driven into glowing red it provides almost "mixed" sound from the recording, very balanced, not so much eq/compression is needed after, the only minus is it's size(especcially when i can compare it to earthworks dm20) but it's still manageable. Really never liked sm57 on anything so for me it's clear win over it. And by the way, lauten can handle literally any type of snare: from big low punchy 14x10 maple to piercing loud bell brass 14x8 to 12x4 piccollo with same great results

I don’t know what special mojo they have going on over there at LA but everything they make sounds amazing!

Yeah, so right what you said. And the next to none bleed is a killer feature. I recently mixed a drumkit with a hell of bleed on the hihat as well as on the snare mic, and it is just so annoying when you have to gate so much or to cut hundreds of hihat/snare hits in a song. So as you said, it will save you A LOT of time, so I'd say...it's worth the extra money!!!

Hey Barry - what is the fader unit on the far right of your desk i.e. opposite side of
    Console 1?

Great review Barry! Better than the MFG and Sweetwater. You gave us exactly what we were looking for with no hype and to the point. I agree with you on the most important elements in a mix given pop rock and blues as well. Nice job!

Yeah, that bottom mic track is late for some reason causing a strange slapback that makes it hard to compare fare. The mic is awsome anyway!

It’s not late I can assure you if that, that was because the camera mic bled into the recording, so it’s my fault.

Rick Beato had Yngwie M on recently and he said he was using Lauten strictly on his amp tones. Maybe an idea to showcase??

Not really a fan of this video. Why would you change the position of the mic when you went to the hi hat? This video doesn't do anything justice. Sound samples should have been done all top, then top and bottom. Very confusing to follow along.

I can't wait to use this. lately Ive been using sm57 and slate ml2 (for more snappiness) but get changing phase issues with each take...

No offense, Barry, but it would probably be a little more productive to get an actual drummer, if one is available, to play the drums for a review of the microphone. People who do not play the drums are not going to play them with the same strength and finesse as a real drummer, so the real world takeaways will be different without a true drummer, playing in front of the microphone.
