"Track speed" is kind of a subjective term. In most cases, 10.7 would be considered track speed. However, if talking about WRs or DBs in an NFL game where most are former track stars, it would only be slightly above average and maybe only the guys below 10.5 are described as having track speed. I.e., it's situational.
Are you confusing Rugby League and Rugby Union? Cause in league track speed would be 10.70. they aim for velocity over dash times the ain reach the highest possible speed over the shortest distance as a result they struggle to maintain that pace for more then 25 metres or so 50 metres at a time is pushing it. In the same run, he was clocked at an estimated 6.29 in his first 60 meters on his way to a 9.83 over a total of 100 meters. He ran this on Dec 11, 2021 in Tokyo at the age of 31 while being coached by an American. This is argued by many as the fastest starting 60 meters of all time. He is considered a great starter but not a good finisher over 100 meters.
@@JoeMama-cs3te They are still estimates and not official times. The only way to get an official time is by running that actual distance. No one is debating which sport has the faster athletes, even though the NFL had 2 former world's fastest humans play in the league.
Had a friend in high school who ran the 400 for Oregon in the late-70s, early-80s. My friend came back from college and I asked him what he was runing and he said 47, which was solid D1 at the time. I was congratulating him when he shook his head and said, "Edwin Moses runs that in the 400 hurdles." Really put things in perspective.
It’s important to note that bolt ran on a track and used starting blocks. So really he’d probably be around 4.17. It’s also important to note that if he did the Xavier worthy strategy (keeping his hand on the line during the push-off), he’d probably be about 4.13. Nevertheless, that is a HUGE margin.
And it should also be noted that over short distances, NFL players are very fast. DK Metcalf, for example, was able to keep up with 10.0 sprinters for about 40-60 metres before they overtook him. So even if Bolt is drawing even with Xavier in the first 40 yards (which of course isn’t happening), we all know what happens after that.
@medogerty6013 I don't know what estimate running productions used, but it's incorrect. The actual 40 time during the 9.58 100 meter sprint would have been about 4.20 seconds, not 4.1
@@BrandonLoewen Yes, I did. The number you get should be in the neighborhood of 4.20 seconds. It's more like 4.35 with reaction time, which the NFL doesn't include. But also, the way the NFL does their timing isn't clear to me anyway.
Mbappe can almost certainly run faster than 10.9... probably estimates based on speeds seen in his games where he's running on grass and playing in studs. He's lightning as far as football players go.
fr he is insanely fast. His sprint against argentina in 2018 was definitely faster than 10.9. of course he isn't as fast as a track and field athlete, but considering he has to implement many changes of directions he is really damn fast. i would be curious to see him do a 100m sprint to see his time.
Mbappe ran a 100 in 10.9s on a football pitch. That's absolutely brilliant to do that whilst being in a game with 90 mins. Even bolt couldn't match his stamina and agility to speed. Saying all that, the BBC comparison was so stupid. The 10.9 was special but making it seem like he wasn't that far behind usains 9.58 is stupid
Every sport loves to market their athletes as best in the world. Impossible to prove anything, but stirs up the conversation. This is why I hate the “GOAT” moniker when people are early in their careers…
Track athletes are extremely amazing but their not better overall athletes than soccer players or gridiron football player. Sprinters run in a straight line and are incredible at that, but other sports require far greater athletic physiologies of discipline than just running in a straight line
7:40 for a video trying to clear up poor comparisions, it's a bit hypocritical to just give bolt these 40 yard dash times without highlighting the advantage of track surface + spikes + blocks
Mbape's 10.9 was not even a 100m run. It was estimated with his top speed. A football player does not sprint longer than 50 meters in a match. Bolt's estimation of 100m with top speed would be like 8s.
Bolt came to my college to speak because some of his Jamaican track teammates went to my school. After his speech he offered to race anyone interested. Keepnin mind he’s in a suit and tire and has fancy dress shoes on. 3 of us were brave enough to get royally embarrassed. He was so fast he gave us all a 20 meter head start in the hundred. He caught us all by the 40 meter mark and ran the rest of the race backwards while waiving at all of us. One of the guys racing with me was a 2 time Maryland state champ in the hundred and we all got completely embarrassed. Bolt is faster than you’d ever think a human could go. I really feel like he could chase down a cheetah at times. I know he can’t and that’s overkill but that’s how fast he looks.

This technically isn't accurate the fastest time ever recorded is Bo Jackson. It just didn't happen at the combine however Dante Stallworth was timed faster than anyone else at 4.18 in the 40. The issue is the NFL faked numbers because they didn't want to post that 40 time. They actually got caught by their own telecast by putting Stallworth up vs Chris Johnson several years later. Stallworth took him by at least 1 step. Then we also have the legend of Joey Galloway running a 4.12 before getting drafted by the Seahawks.
Xavier Worthy! Great kid! A local start from Fresno CA! The whole city is buzzing about that 40 yard dash. Hoping he has a wonderful career. Go Make Fresno Proud X
I appreciate it when people call out exaggerations in track, and it seems to happen all the time. You called out the BBC for their obvious exaggeration. However you also exaggerated yourself by saying if Mbappe ran a 10.9 he would be 20 to 25 meters behind Bolt when he cross the finish line of his 9.58 or actually 9.572 world record 100 meter race. Mbappe would be between 1.3 and 1.4 seconds behind Bolt. There is no way a human being can run 25 meters or even 20 meters in 1.4 seconds. Not even Bolt himself could run that fast. He would probably be more like 14 or 15 meters behind, not 20 and certainly not 25. Just want to set the record straight.
I think Bolt would still win, but turf doesn't give the same energy returns as the track. It wouldn't have been a 4.08-4.13. It would have been slightly slower.
I believe the fastest ANYONE has ever run in 40yards or 60 meters was Su Bingtian in the 100 semis at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He got out of the blocks faster than anyone ever has. His only problem was at about 60 meters the rest of the field would catch him. But he ran a 9.83 in the 100m that race.
@@DANGJOSAccording to various sources on google he was 3.73 through 30m and about 4.30 after 40 yards, but that's including reaction time (not a factor in NFL) and from start blocks (not a 3 point stance like NFL). One source claims he had a 4.07 with reaction time factored out.
@@psymar Interesting. I would love to see the split times so I can estimate it myself. I did that a long time ago for Usain Bolt's 9.58 run, and his 40 time is not what the video says. The calculation is fun to do
@@psymar That does actually sound fairly accurate, but a bit of an exaggeration.. Bolt was measured 3.81 (3.66 without reaction time) at 30 metres, 4.61s (4.46s) at 40 metres, and 6.31s at 60 metres (Bingtian's record is 6.29s.) Bolt's accelerating at that point and 0.29 seconds is by any account a very accurate interpolation for that 40 yards to 40 metres segment, so Bolt's 40 yard time was 4.32s (4.17 w/o the reaction time). I'm going to go out on a limb and say they were within a 0.01 seconds from each other in that short 6.5 metre segment. That would give Su Bingtian 4.23 to 4.25 split time at the 40 yard "mark" (it's not acually marked anywhere, now is it?). His reaction time was 0.142 and we would get something like 4.08-4.11, possibly.
What else is funny is that they probably got this 10.9 for Mbappe from looking at his top speed. If we took bolts top speed (~ 44km/h) and did the same, he would run like 8.2 second for the 100m. So this is just a complete non-comparison.
Not really, and I'll explain why: In football, GPS devices are used to track players' heart rate, speed, distance, and exact location on the field, among other metrics. Additionally, the length of a football field is known, making it easy to calculate a player's speed. It should be noted that the standard size of a football field is 105m x 68m. While Mbappe would not be able to compete with Bolt, he could become a decent sprinter with proper training. Mbappe achieved the 10.9 while standing, starting slowly, and looking to his teammate to receive the ball. He changed direction slowly and then sprinted the last few meters with the ball. It is important to note that running on natural grass is different from running on a track, as the soft surface absorbs most of the force exerted on the ground. I have personally experienced this while sprinting on grass, where it took me longer to get off the ground.
@@njsfer Ok, he didn't 'achieve' a 10.9 though did he? I mean since when did any footballer in the history of the game actually sprint 100 metres in one run? The 10.9 was an estimate based on the highest velocity he achieved and extrapolated out, and wouldn't account for the obvious deceleration that a footballer would exhibit over the final 40 metres of a 100 metres run, which would be much more obvious than with an actual pro sprinter. What, you think someone actually timed Mbappe running for 100 meters from a dead start, both with and without the ball and he ran 10.9? He wouldn't even run a 10.9 on a nice bouncy track in spikes, unless maybe he had a hurricane behind him....
@@itsinthetreesitscoming7431bro he just explained you how they calculated it, with the exact route he ran and you just start making up how they did 😂😂😂
@@itsinthetreesitscoming7431 Tell me you don't know or you've never watched football without actually telling me. I don't know how they measured, they didn't share the methodology. But it looks like you know how they measured, so please share the link. I just watched an older video of him running from one side of the field to the other (yes, many players do that, I'll explain why later). In this video (search for "Mbappe speed 39km") he takes 12 seconds (I timed it) to go from the goal area line to the opposite goal, which is exactly 99.5m. But he starts slowly and only after 4 seconds he starts to accelerate, always holding on and looking like his teammate who had the ball, then he receives it and dribbles the opponent while sprinting as fast as possible, then he shoots and scores. Unlike track where you have a lot of room to slow down, in football you have the advertising boards and you have to slow down before you even get to the end of the field. He would easily shave off more than 1 second if he were to run straight without having to score, receive the ball, look at his teammates, and start slow. Also, natural grass is super soft, so it absorbs a lot of the force you put into it, unlike tracks that are built to be bouncy and responsive. He also runs in cleats, which are softer than track shoes and designed to provide a lot of grip when changing direction. As for soccer players sprinting from one side of the field to the other, they do it when they're big so they can defend pretty well, and if there's a counterattack, they have to run all the way to their attack to score, like he did in this video. Cristiano Ronaldo does it all the time, Haaland does it a lot, Mbappé does it, a lot of players do it. The fact that you said "Since when has a footballer in the history of the game actually sprinted 100 meters in one run?" just shows that you know nothing about football. And there's nothing wrong with that, as long as you don't talk like you know little about it.
So you're saying Bolt would smash this dude in the 40 and then carry on running another 71 yards after he's pulled up to break the 100m world record? Doesn't seem real does it.
Worthy Running In Football Cleats.. Coleman ran his in track spikes.. Bolt is on a track I’m not saying that Worthy is near as fast as them but if it’s going to be accurate then it has to be done with all the same conditions and specs

That's how much of a joke the 40 yard dash is in the NFL. It's not even accurate as you saw the manipulation that Xavier displayed in his NFL combines. Fastest men ever in the NFL 1. Jim Hines 9.95 2. Trendon Holliday 10.00 twice 3. Jeff Demps 10.01 4. Jacoby Ford 10.01 5. Bob Hayes 10.06 22. Tyreek Hill 10.19 34. Deion Sanders 10.26 The supposedly "fastest top 3 NFL fastest men ever at the 40 yard dash," aren't even in the top 100 fastest men ever in the NFL. That's how slow they really are in comparison to let's say Trendon Holliday 10.00 which would have put Trendon dead last in that Olympics where Usain broke the world record. Spikes, cleats, whatever you want, the 40 yard dash is a joke!

@@jesusrumbo1852 No chance. At all... Christian Coleman, who is a better 60 metre runner than Bingtian, ran 4.11 in a 40 yard dash test. So you're saying that Bingtian would be like nearly 3 metres ahead of him after 36.6 metres? Your maths are woeful.
The reality is that bolts weakness was the start to his race so his 40 isn’t as impressive as you’d think it is. Bolts first 30m in his race was 3.634 seconds if you take off reaction time. Then if you add in his average speed from 30-40m for the remaining 6.576 meters to make 40 yards, you get something around 4.19-4.21. Bolt excelled at high top end speed and maintaining that speed to pull away from competition. Very rarely was bolt the first one to 20-30 meters
Yes, thank you! That is the correct way to do the calculation! I went backwards from 40 meters, rather than forwards from 30 meters like you did, but it doesn't matter. I got about 4.20 seconds. Also, it should be slightly slower than the average of the 30-40 meter time, but regardless, largely correct. I'm not sure where Total Running Productions got their estimate, but they were mistaken in their calculations.
The timing system at the combines is based on the athletes movement and usually gives them about 0.3 - 0.5s benefit at least, compared to actual Olympic timing. Bolt’s times under those conditions would literally be in the 3.8s range under the same conditions. Ps Bolt ran 6.29s based on the more accurate cameras (not 6.31 based on the laser system)
Wait I’m actually interested in what you have to say. I’ve heard many people saying (myself included) that Bolt has the second fastest 60m split of a 100m race of all time (6.31) behind Su Bingtian’s 6.29. But I’ve also heard many people saying that Bolt’s ran 6.29 (in his 9.58), and I thought it was because they were getting mixed up with Su’s 6.29 but now I’m not so sure. If you could post links that show what you were saying then that would be great! :)
I don’t think I’d ever say that a mostly non contact sport (it gets dirty in those distance events) is the hardest sport. Track and field is harder and more technical and strategic then most people give it credit for but I wouldn’t say that it is the hardest due to it being an individual non contact sport.
Did you mention how Mbappe's speed was probably recorded starting from a point where Mbappe was probably already moving while sprinters start stationary?
I ran the calculations of the Mbappe example. Assuming ideal conditions (both racers instantaneously accelerate to their average speed in their runs and maintain it throughout the run): 1. Mbappe would be running about 1.25 m/s slower than Bolt (9.174 m/s vs. 10.438 m/s) 2. By the time Bolt crossed the finish line, Mbappe would be about 11.1101 meters behind him. (For my fellow Americans that’s about 36 and a half feet)
Definitely. And it's just an extrapolation from a short surge. That people think he literally covered 100m in 10.9 while kicking a ball is hilarious/sad.
Reminder that while when compared to the fastest human beings these speeds aren't as good, but compared to any of us they're much faster than the fastest person you probably know and hang out with.
NFL doesn't use blocks. So you can't compare Bolt's time on a track to an NFL combine time. Also, thanks for mentioning that Bolt's 40 yard run was nowhere near official. He got timed on a fan attraction. No team in the world would accept that time as accurate.

So they took a run of Mbappé during a a football match on a football pitch where he most likley didn't start from a standstill and estimated it from pictures. Yeah, these parameters really make this a sensible comparison.
Bolt had to slow down before the finish line at the Super Bowl because there was barely any room after the line before the wall. You can clearly see that when watching the sprint
"Many people can dunk a basketball if the hoop is 4 feet lower" said the BBC. Also if an athlete wants to they prove they are faster than Bolt, then go to a track with electronic timing and prove it.
One more thing you missed... Mbape didn't start from 0 speed. 100m was measured from when he already reached some speed. Starting from 0 would add few tenths I guess.
Did anyone notice the name of ELUID KIPCHOGE in 10th position at 0:49? That was back in 2012 - 12 years ago. I for one, didn't know that he had that kind of speed. And then it also speaks of his longevity in distance running.
OMG when that graphic with 10.9 vs 9.58 secs popped up, I literally was crying I was laughing so hard. I bet that was an AI written article. That's going to be the majority of news content we get in the future. Yay!
What hurts about the 10.9 comparison is someone is paid… paid a pretty decent amount i imagine from the BBC… PAID to know sports and they dont even have the slightest clue at how slow that actually is.
It would be actually very quick if done on the grass football pitch during a game and wearing football boots. But the more hurtful part of this reporting from BBC is that we don't even known the conditions. For starters - 100 metres could be ran only diagonally on the pitch :-) Was it with or without ball? Just a typical low quality information which the internet is plagued with these by pseudo-journalists. Ronaldo (Not Cristiano, but the actual GOAT of footbal - R9 from Brasil) supposedly clocked below 11s on the athletic track during his time in Real Madrid when doing pre-season tests. At that stage he was already after multiple knee injuries and bit overweight. And I am quite sure that Mbappe now is quicker than this version of Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima. Not necessarily than a healthy version of R9 at full strength.

Only a handful of league players can do 10.70 for 100m

Honestly kinda cringe. Nobody really thinks this comparison is good
It’s important to note that bolt ran on a track and used starting blocks.
Especially considering he’s 6’ 5” and wasn’t known for his starts. It’s his top end that was truly untouchable

The Bolt glazing is craaaaaaazy.
And I’m loving it cause it’s all fax
I think Bolt would still win, but turf doesn't give the same energy returns as the track. It wouldn't have been a 4.08-4.13. It would have been slightly slower.
Probably close to 4.4 lets be real based on his 40 meter speed being 4.65.

"A second slower" kill me🤣🤣 damn🤣🤣
You not making my hs city final with that 😂
BBC thought they did something with that, football, soccer, and track and field player here, I am disrespected in every single way
What else is funny is that they probably got this 10.9 for Mbappe from looking at his top speed. If we took bolts top speed (~ 44km/h) and did the same, he would run like 8.2 second for the 100m. So this is just a complete non-comparison.
Not really, and I'll explain why:
In football, GPS devices are used to track players' heart rate, speed, distance, and exact location on the field, among other metrics.
@@njsfer why do you say "not really" when nothing you follow with disagrees with what the person before you wrote?

Man 100m and 40 yard speed are so different I don’t know why it’s a comparison. You don’t even go 100% the whole time in the 100. It’s not the same
You absolutely go 100% beginning to end in the 100m.
It's also from a flying start, nothing like a standing start, which makes the estimated time even slower than 10.9.

TRP is calling out the BBC NOW???
I don’t think I’d ever say that a mostly non contact sport (it gets dirty in those distance events) is the hardest sport. Track and field is harder and more technical and strategic then most people give it credit for but I wouldn’t say that it is the hardest due to it being an individual non contact sport.
hardest sport based on what?
sure bro
in terms of difficulty

Did you mention how Mbappe's speed was probably recorded starting from a point where Mbappe was probably already moving while sprinters start stationary?
That laugh at 1:37 sent me. 😂
😂😂Oh boy
I ran the calculations of the Mbappe example. Assuming ideal conditions (both racers instantaneously accelerate to their average speed in their runs and maintain it throughout the run):
1. Mbappe would be running about 1.25 m/s slower than Bolt (9.174 m/s vs. 10.438 m/s)
2. By the time Bolt crossed the finish line, Mbappe would be about 11.1101 meters behind him. (For my fellow Americans that’s about 36 and a half feet)
Yeah that "25m behind" is so off target...
Guess I should really be bragging more about my 100m time being within 3 seconds of Bolt's - didn't realize how impressive that was🤣
As soon as I saw that on Instagram I laughed for minutes straight I couldn't help it
Let me guess, Mbappe also had a running start when they "clocked" that time 😂😂🤣🤣😭😭
Definitely. And it's just an extrapolation from a short surge. That people think he literally covered 100m in 10.9 while kicking a ball is hilarious/sad.
Great breakdown, they just keep proving Bolts greatness with these comparisons I love it .
2:00 Crazy how Yohan Blake was the only one running into a headwind in that top 10.
Freaking thank you. I swear the people in these comments are insane thinking he ran a 4.2 in slippers
I called that 4,22s fake the second I saw it. It was a classic american moment. Faking it for show and money.
Still, ain’t nobody faster than Bolt 😂
Tf it's not fake, it's just not as fast as people think.
@@jasoneng3161Hahahaha, that's called fake. I wasn't lying when I said I was 2m tall on tinder, I'm just not as tall as the girls think. 🤡
They faked Usain equalling the NFL record because it would make for a great story.
Manufacturing and distribution of bullshit. Americans gonna do what americans do best...
So they took a run of Mbappé during a a football match on a football pitch where he most likley didn't start from a standstill and estimated it from pictures. Yeah, these parameters really make this a sensible comparison.
the more you dig into the achivement that 9.58 is, the more insane it gets.
3:55 except for that one time a certain Mr Bolt was on the football pitch
In fact. Stop comparing Usain Bolt to others, nobody itw is as fast as he was
Bolt had to slow down before the finish line at the Super Bowl because there was barely any room after the line before the wall. You can clearly see that when watching the sprint
Like how is no one noticing he couldn't run straight through the 40 line and had to slow down early lol
American athletes know how far they are from Bolt's records.
is 12.4 good even though I still have 10 months to practice (for grade 9)
Ran a 10.8 and didn’t get any offers after high school
"Many people can dunk a basketball if the hoop is 4 feet lower" said the BBC. Also if an athlete wants to they prove they are faster than Bolt, then go to a track with electronic timing and prove it.
You mean fully automatic timing. Electronic is just the way it is displayed on a time clock or scoreboard.
One more thing you missed... Mbape didn't start from 0 speed. 100m was measured from when he already reached some speed. Starting from 0 would add few tenths I guess.
Mbappe would run 100m much faster than that
😂😂 I saw this article too and I couldn't even read past the first sentence.
Great video, holding no punches. ❤
AND Bolt was NEVER known to be a great starter.....crazy top end though 💪🏿🇯🇲
This is him running in a football game btw, either chasing the ball or dribbling it...
Si bingtians 40 yard split in the Tokyo Olympics was 3.99
Thanks for giving props were props is due!!
Did anyone notice the name of ELUID KIPCHOGE in 10th position at 0:49? That was back in 2012 - 12 years ago. I for one, didn't know that he had that kind of speed.
And then it also speaks of his longevity in distance running.
you wanna talk longevity? He is the 5000m world champion of 2003! That race vs Bekele and ElGuerrouj is a must watch by the way
OMG when that graphic with 10.9 vs 9.58 secs popped up, I literally was crying I was laughing so hard. I bet that was an AI written article. That's going to be the majority of news content we get in the future. Yay!
He has incredible potential if he really focused on the 100, still not even close to bolt
Thank you. Sick of this nonsense. I remember once when the premier league were comparing Erling Haaland over 40 yards to Usain Bolt. Absolute lunacy
Bolt is the GOAT 🐐 and the funny part about it is he could have ran even faster. He usually lets up off the gas right at the end lol
Not necessarily than a healthy version of R9 at full strength.
i know nothing about soccer xD, but point stands i guess@@Ariskot007
Nobody can beat Bolt's records in the near future, probably won't in the distant future either
Watching Usain set a wold record while not running all the way through and celebrating before the finish line is so unreal 🤣
