  • www.olct.co/Cir... - The perfect tool for locating short circuits, open circuits, and wire tracing on 6 - 42 volt systems.
The GTC FF310's transmitter injects pulses of current and a radio frequency for detection by the receiver. Made in Canada by General Technologies Corp, this tool is the winner of a PTEN innovation award.
    Open Circuits
When installed in a circuit the transmitter emits a radio frequency, as the signal is only able to travel as far as the wire has continuity, the receiver will stop receiving the transmitters signal where there is an open circuit.
    Short Circuits
When installed in a circuit, if the transmitter finds continuity to earth, it automatically illuminates the "short circuit" light and sends current pulses. The emitted current pulses are detected at the short location, Using the adjustable sensitivity on the receiver can help narrow down the area (high), harness (medium), and wire (low). as the receiver gets closer to the short, the receiver's beeping increases frequency.
    Tracing wires
Using the 3 sensitivity settings, the FF310 is also useful in locating wires, be it from one end of a coach to the other, or, finding a particular wire from the ECU in an engine bay.

It's necessary to disconnect the battery for using this tool?

That wire way back there prevented dash lights to stop working.

Yes, when power is turned on to dash lights they are also powering the running and tail lights. When the ground from power is making contact, it blows the circuit to protect from fire and damaging other components on the circuit. The tool can see resistance & power along along the wire via its connected tool at fuse el which sends feedback through the wired circuit to the other tool. When it loses signal you find the area where it's most likely broken, rotted or shorted to the body (ground). Hope that helps.

The increasing frequency seems to be a very helpful tool, it's not just a volume effect. That must have been a tricky engineering feat.

Yes, We also sell them to Electricians and Marine Engineers, I have a client who uses them to locate wires on tankers, They have loom's "as thick as your leg" and a tanker long.
