No joke, this Bodies Laughing one was on Colin’s ‘In Rainbows’ studio blackboard photo. It started as another Radiohead tune like Skirting on the Surface & Open the Floodgates (and probably a couple others).
Thom playing an Ed O’Brien signature strat!
looks like it!
Ed would love this stage too :)
He seems to be making good use of the sustain on the guitar solos
more likely he is just playing one of ed's actual guitars lol
@@autoloon yep, looks like a protype as the black sustainer pickups were the only ones available until EOB's were mass-produced
So sad this wasnt on the new album. What a track!
We need a studio version!!
This is perfect for Thom. Playing small venues, with his strongest instrumentalist and a new and exiting drummer. Simplifying everything by operating in a 3 peace band, and not having to play those old Radiohead tunes over and over, nor having those high expectations for every release. Now it's all about the moment, the art and being productive.
Primavera Sound is not precisely a “small venue”
@@ecg8510 I mean it's relative. It is small compared to the 10-20k arenas that Radiohead would regularly play at, or 50-100k crowds they would often play at festivals being the headliners.
good comment i like it
@@Drenwickification i was in the first weekend of primavera and we would all sum up to 110k easily, and they played in the biggest scenario that fits around 30k people since its 2 big scenarios put together in a huge space. so if you think that a 10-20k arena is remarkably bigger than their primavera stage youre definitely wrong
@@ecg8510 Headline of a festival, Primavera Sound is not. He meant relatively.
This gives me a phased-out Knives Out vibe. Love it. Also man, that solo definitely shows off the amazingness that is the EOB Strat.
yeah totally, that’s exactly what I was thinking last week when I was listening to it, Knives out part II!!!
i like how johnny is using the same bass colin uses
And Thom’s using Ed’s signature guitar
Can definitely hear more than a little of Knives Out in that bass line..
No matter if theres missing 3 members, the smile is still clearly a spinoff of radiohead
This sounds like Thom finally created a psychedelic jazz band he always wanted. I'm REALLY hoping they release another album soon, cuz I'm expecting these new tracks on a b-sides album at the end of the year. Please Please Please Please!
right-click the screen and select "Loop". You're welcome.
I was a little sad that Radiohead may never come back but you know the essence of it is perfectly captured with the smile, hope they keep going there’s so many different styles in it too
why a b-sides album?
@@lupa3041 cuz I’m selfish and want these new tracks now?
@@MissHeathen I’m pretty sure there was only 1 song that didn’t make it onto the first album, Just Eyes and Mouth. Most of the songs they’ve played that weren’t on the album were written while touring, so it wouldn’t really be a b-side album.
The best thing about The Smile is how spontaneous and creative they get to make the music they create... it reminds me of the time of Hail To The Thief where they themselves comment that a song came out every week... 🎧
It's hard to imagine that Radiohead wrote and recorded Kid A, Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief from 1999-2003. Three different, acclaimed records in four years! Knowing Radiohead as they are now, it seems insane to think they managed Kid A/Amnesiac and the challenges there, toured both albums through 2001, then came back in 2002 with like 15 new songs.
@@codycooke4461 it's even more incredible when you consider that these guys are still coming out with stuff that's arguably just as good nowadays after all that
I love how Jonny and Thom alternate bass guitar and 6-string guitar duties for this project. They both look like they are having so much fun. Counting the days until the NYC leg of the tour!
I wouldn't be surprised if we got another album in less than a year
Although I know these guys LOVE sitting on songs for years, but these new ones sound pretty much finished.
@@jeanmmckenzie true but the songs from first album all sounded finished when they performed them on the online Glastonbury in 2021 but then it took a year for the album to come out. I would love another album soon but I’m not expecting it this year tbh
@@Drenwickification not this year for sure, but I'm thinking something like late spring - early summer 2023
I actually would be surprised. Unless its some Kid A/Amnesiac type thing.
I hope so@@jeanmmckenzie The Smile has grown a life of it's own. We are Blessed. They on a roll.🎵😻
p.s. Just remembering that pic of Thoms face on a bread roll! ☺
FANTASTIC!
They literally did a live studio fade-out at the end.
exactly my thoughts, i was listening in the background and was like "hold up!", amazing
This sounds a lot like The Cure, in the best way possible. Looking forward to hearing this one recorded.
Another « new » one.
The Smile is contagious.
2023:
A new virus spread like wild the year that every thing changed.
It was called peace and love
2022:
Wouldn’t it be nice 😐

Beautiful thought @@Pi-Mae We can make it happen 😻☮🍄🎵

Thom using the ed o'brien signature strat is so cool
Is Radiohead ever coming back after what we see!?, this is a never ending source of songs, Thom and Johnny inspired as if they started a band for the first time. Incredible
I think Radiohead is done, I don’t think Thom would ever announce that. As long as Thom and Jonny keep playing together, the new album is very nuanced material
@@hippiecheezburger5457 Lmao maybe Thom would never announce that, but the rest of the band? OFC we’d hear something from them. And for god sake, Ed already said recently on Instagram that Radiohead is not dead, they’re just waiting for the time to be right. They’ve been busy doing their own shit.
Radiohead isn’t dead, there’s just going to be a bigger gap between albums going forward.
@@hippiecheezburger5457 yh Radiohead isn’t dead but yh they’re getting older and are gonna have longer breaks from now on
Yeah, no. I think radiohead is done. thom and Jonny seem to be in a creative boom right now. And I'm all for it
@@louiscocksman7114 ffs what's wrong with people. things have to be DEAD or ALIVE!! what's the status doc??!! is he alive? is he in purgatory??!! noooo! purgatory is not something I can easily categorize!!!
also for the record...dont worry guys...i can honestly say Radiohead will never be dead. even if they stop making music, they're mates ffs
Sounds so Krautrocky! Especially the bass. Reminds me of Talk Show Host and all their other attempts to sound like a 70s band.
Never really listened to krautrock but this kinda reminds me of dollars and cents. Is that how krautrock sounds like?
@@snagglesnorf3426 Not exactly. Dollars And Cents has a more jazzy feel to it, and this one is closer to Talk Show Host by Radiohead and Vitamin C by the German Krautrock band Can (you can listen to it, or you may know it, as well; also I'd recommend you to listen to another track by them called Splash, and their main hits). Though, Can draws heavily from Jazz music as well - at least, in terms of performing the songs and overall chaotic presence happening on stage.
@@snagglesnorf3426 Ful Stop on A Moon shaped pool is quite Kraut Rocky
@@michaelpurdieabbott7743 came here to say this
Moonshake by Can
that natural fade out was next level
Absolutely cannot get enough of this track, ever since they played it live in Brooklyn.
Ed O'Brian is also somewhat present as Thom is playing his Fender signature strat!
AHHH WHY IS THIS NOT ON LP2!!!!!
please god let there be a studio version
im hoping either a single or a radiohead track in the future, because it's a really damn solid track
Major key happy Thom and groovy bass Jonny is where it's at
Major key modCheck
Came here to check it before listening to the new version played first in March 2024 in Belgium. Cheers!
man, this riff is insanely good, i am fucking addicted to it
This could've fit somewhere in the middle of Wall of Eyes 👌🏻
I love this! Sounds so In Rainbows or TKOL I cannot wait for the studio version
This exist since In Rainbows,at least the name.
I can't wait for a studio version of this track!
That bass line reminds me of early Cure. What a great sound.
The Holy Hour from the album Faith?
why new album lacks this one. it's good!
Damn at this rate we'll have a new album in a few days😂
YES LETS GOOOO. THIS IS GOING TO BE ONE OF THE BEST TRACKS ON LP02
LP03*
I love this! Reminds me of Knives Out
the bass-line kill me 🔥
Seriously i wasnt expecting this mindblowing and inviting song...sounds pure radiohead .
This one's GREAT.
Love this song, can't wait for them they to release it. I discovered and listening the song for the first time at TW Classic in Belgium (on June 25), and it was magic, I loved Thom's guitar solo ✨
Reminds me of "Knives Out" a bit. I love it!
LP2 finna be insane
Love the playful energy to this one.
Love the solos!! Love just about everything about this tbh, can’t wait for The Smile’s 2nd LP!
We need new album!!!
kind of a shame this won't be in Wall of Eyes, it's a really fucking solid track (hopefully it'll become a RH track within the next 5 years hehe)
those changes are so sick. fuck, this is so good, dude...
Damn this good. This is kinda taking me back to On A Friday demos. Great sound! Hopefully we'll get an album version soon.
For sure!!! It is an old song taken back! These guys are amazing!
I hope they release a high quality recording of People on Balconies
:)
can't wait for this to release after 7 years 🥺🥺
My favorite out of all songs by the smile so far, just head over heels in love 🥰
the bassline reminds me of moonshake by can so much. wouldnt be surprised if it was an inspiration
This song will be one of the best from LP2, no doubt
And they decided this song wasn't good enough... we got YORKED again...
@@stefanopellegrini7094fr this one and just eyes and mouth 😭. Unless they changed the names to I Quit and You Know Me which I doubt unfortunately…
@@user-iw3nd9ru7vbut then there’s also colors fly that got cut too, this could’ve been an 11 song album but instead it’s 8
@@TheChasedanger I think they honestly are saving some of those for a potential Radiohead Album.
@@user-iw3nd9ru7v hopefully because I loved those 3 songs
amazing workload... those two legends still make progress(and so musical definition of them is still uncompleted)
And this band is just, alive in the present with such a great energy. I'm happy to live with them in the same era.
Totally! And they've already got a 2nd album in the works.
2:48 A clear footage of Thom Yorke trying to slap a fly
Visually he emulates the vibe concisely imo
Can't wait for LP2! ❤
This is incredible.
Man when they played this, and Thom pulled out ed’s signature. It was so crazy
Man this is brilliant! Can’t wait for this one to come out
Genial!! me encanta ❤️
Outstanding. Amazing Song. Total Pleasure
Great performance 🤯😍
Love it !!!
They are on another level...
Agree! Saw them at Roundhouse London.... superb.
Amazing!
loved the fade out!
Guys! You're just incredible!
magnifique!
merci beaucoup
Addictive!! Love to see a band enjoying themselves so much, especially Thom. It's like he has found himself again!
Ohhh, nicee! Thanks!!!
Bruh they made a homemade "fade-out" lmao
Sono nati per la musica.
Great song, great performance.
Perfect...
Perfect.
Why this was not included in the new album? 😢
They seem to still be working on it, a new version got played at a few European concerts
Can't wait to hear this in Chicago
beautiful sync of Moonshake and Don't Say No
este tema y teleharmonic faser son 2 canciones totalmente de lo mas brillante que escuche!!! la calidad de las melodías, la estructura, los arreglos, etc etc Se viene un segundo disco maravilloso!!!
So amazing! Spotify please
Love this song, lyrics & tune fit together so well.
Makes me feel happy. 😊
Thom seems so happy & free, wow that psychedelic guitar solo hit the spot.
Makes me happy to see him so free in the moment.🙃
Bless Thom Yorke & The Smile.❤️
Wow!!
Love
Muito bom!
🇧🇷
this song shows that Ed O'brien will always be a critical element of Thom's artistry
How so
@@roryturner9773 pretty sure Thom is using Ed's fender signature strat
@@sheetcutters I was wondering if you were pointing to that or criticising The Edless music
Wow!!!!
❤❤❤❤ Loving this band, Johnny and Thom seem revitalised and are on a creative roll. Best thing they’ve done since In Rainbows. Gutted they didn’t save all these great new songs for Radiohead but I spose that’s actually the point, the freedom they’ve got to really express themselves, it’s wonderful and long may it continue!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
How come they haven’t done a studio version of Bodies Laughing or Colours fly yet? Unless they’re gonna be on the new album??
Not to mention just eyes and mouth, we’ve been waiting for that one since ALFAA
They are morphing sll the time!
Was at their Glasgow gig was something you 😅
Has to be the first time he’s played a strat live
Kind of. They played this at the Edinburgh gig back in June lol. I said the same thing to my mate. To be fair I also said they have finally reached their Dad Rock phase. Thom on a Strat and Jonny on a Les Paul.
@@TheGuitarModder Lol. yep. but in a way more fearless than ever.
Thom was playing a strat with Headless Chickens. Not sure that counts though.
Just a fckn genius

i predicted that they’d go more psychedelic and no one believed me.
Was everybody laughing?
