Nice content luke 👍 as a very small domestic outfit i found this valuable. Over the 7 years of self employment i find it hard not to stagnate. I do miss subby work but have never traveled much at all , but hey the grass is always greener .

Thanks Mate. We were a small outfit too and probably through naivety decided to take on 4 apprentices in one go. The first year was hard for myself and my business partner to say the least.
You can see the guys getting better every day and now our lives are much easier. Well worth the investment into an apprentice or two if you can!

Great video, mate! Can you make a video about how you taught yourself everything?what did you do to learn climbing, rigging, pruning, using equipment like chippers and chainsaws, and tree biology and diagnosis etc? I’m thinking of taking the self taught route and I’m just trying to figure out a good game plan for myself

Cheers mate. Yeah that’s a good idea I think I’ve got a few things I could share. What country are you based in?

@@LukeDJohnson Chicago! Your accent compelled me to call you “mate”, we don’t really say that over here 😂

@@merlejohnson7069Cool so it works a bit different across the pond you have the ISA.
It would be a good idea to get in contact with your local ISA Chapter and potentially become a member. They will know good local contractors that might be looking for another pair of hands.
In terms of training you don’t have ‘Tickets’ like we do here in the UK. You have ISA Certification which you could buy the book and Self Study. You take an exam every now and then as you get qualified.
Finally there is a book I bought for some of our apprentices last year by Jeff Jepson called Groundie. It’s an absolute gold mine of good information for beginner tree workers. Don’t worry if you’re not a big reader, I’m not either. Easy to ready and plenty of good illustrations.
      Good Luck 👊

Stockholm for a short period before the UK left the EU. I loved the work culture over there and the industry is much more respected by the public.
