This was my mall. So many memories. Always loved the hand painted ceilings of the blue sky with clouds, jets and flocks of birds if you looked hard enough for them.
    I miss it.

I went there about 2 years ago for funsies. I’d never been to a dead mall before it was kinda neat and sad at the same time. Pretty cool seeing all the 90s (or 80s?) style fixtures and stuff.

Hardly remember most of the times I came here because I was so young but I remember seeing the beautiful painted sky ceiling, the yellow elevator to the upstairs play place, and the theater. Mom took me here so many times. I'm going to miss it.

Hey all, baytown resident here to give you a 2022 update. All stores have been completely wiped and moved out of the mall. leaving a dead, boarded and out of order shell of a once corporate hotspot in the 80s and 90s. The malls interior now reeks of a sewage smell, and is slowly just decomposing. A reconstruction was promised, but movements to take that action have been nothing but procrastinated. i will keep you updated

It’s sad. You see all the dead mall videos and know it’s always a possibility for your own to end up the same way but somewhere inside you still hope that yours could be one of the ones to survive the times...
Was fun while it lasted. 💔

As a Baytownian too, the whole mall is demolished at this point. Now just waiting for them to start the new one. I have so many memories in San Jacinto mall and I hate that they tore it down. They should have just renovated it or whatever cause they are making it an outside mall now.. 😔

I know right. From was once a nice, clean, & popular shopping destination to an abandoned building in bad shape with a bad smell inside & later got demolished. I went to it back when it first opened back in 1981 & it was the place. It was like Baybrook Mall. It did great up until after the first few years of the 2000s. From there, thaz when it started to downsize, but slowly.

I visited here a few years ago to buy a Wacky Gator arcade game from the amusement place that was going under. I bought a slice from the Italian place (closed in video), but didn't eat it right away and ended up tossing it after seeing more cockroaches than I was comfortable with.
At the time, there seemed to be 1 or 2 pillars, a small movie theater, a couple of vendors in the food court, and a few odd stores. Most of the premises looked abandoned and was probably closed off. Upkeep was lacking, and it felt unsanitary and unsafe.
I'm under the impression that owners or the city want to close the mall, but one or more of the pillars have sweetheart long-term leases that they've been unwilling to let go of.

Now that whole building is gone. Today it's just a big grassy field with a fence around it. After the last & only store which was Macy's closed 2 years ago, the mall was abandoned & left in ruins for a while until they finally demolished it. They're suppose to build a new marketplace there & I'm surprised they haven't even started building it yet, unless they changed their mind on the plan.

I used to come to this mall on a regular basis. I relating at the ponchos Mexican restaurant before it closed it was I the restaurant space next to the cinema it closed some time ago though when the mall started slowing down.
There's actually a old video in the 90s I saw on UA-cam that shows a brief clip up the upstairs portion of mall.
That used to be where the arcade was some years ago and the coursel.
Later on the acade was moved downstairs to the play area and only thing that remained upstairs was the coursel also some years ago the planter in the food court used to be a fountain.
There was also other varouse fountains throughout that where turned into planters.

Dang, I remember the smell of popcorn at the entrance of the mall. I remember always getting food at the Cajun Cafe restaurant inside. I would always play at the arcade and take laps all around the mall. It is sad that it is being taken down. Don’t know if they are actually gonna remodel the whole mall or not.

They tore the whole building down recently & are planning to build a new market place there in that same spot which'll be neat. It was sad to see that mall go to the graveyard. I've had many fun memories visiting it with my mom back in my child days. She took me to it back on the day when it first opened & it was the place. Before internet & i-phones, malls were popular.

That mall was like Baybrook back in the 80s & 90s. Good times 😎👍 Today all that remains are the palm trees over by where Macy's rear entrance use to be at & the parking lot light poles. Even the parking lot itself isn't there anymore, just dirt with tall grass grown on it. I heard they're suppose to build a new outlet mall there or so. Surprised they haven't even started building it yet.

Literally some of the best days of my life were spent there. The early 80's were the best. 90's is what killed that mall. They should have beefed up security instead of reduce it. Lot of vandalism, assault and theft going on during that time. My car got vandalized. So sad. Echos of the past.

    • @kevinrichards3288

I believe it was when the internet first came out was the beginning of the end of that mall & many other malls too because people began shopping online instead of at malls. Back in the late 90s, the Galvez Mall down on Galveston Island closed & got demolished. Later when Amazon came out, the number of online shoppers grew more & became popular which made malls not get as many customers as they use to back in the day.

If this is the mall in Texas, I have been to a San Jancinto off of I-10. I was walking through the mall, talked to a security officer, asking him about any history he has on it as I could not get any information. So as I was walking through, I was taking photos off of my iPhone, a maid asked by shouting if I had permission to take photos and I told her that I had talked with a security guard and then she left and the next thing I knew, she had security after me. A bunch of security guards around me, threatening to arrest me for taking photos. I tried to explain to them that I only collect photos as these days, these malls ends up being torn down. They explained to me that it is illegal to take photos or videos of anything inside of a mall and they had me delete one photos. But little did they know, I had many photos already. Sadly, I believed that this mall was going to be torn down. So sad that I am only interested in the architecture and history of old malls, not blowing them up. They said that the laws were based due to 9-11, threats of destroying a mall with a bomb. That is why it is illegal to take any photos or videos of inside of a mall.

@Patrick Saxon this is the mall you're talking about like S. S. said & it's on I-10 at Garth Rd in Baytown, Texas. Only stores there that are left are JCPenney & Macy's, but the whole rest of the mall has been closed off since January 2020. For example if you wanted to go from one store to the other, you'd have to go outside & either walk or drive around because the interior entrances that lead out to the mall are all closed off. That JCPenney location there is going to be closing sometime soon because when I drove past it recently, it had a banner on the outside that said "Closing".
