This gem from 1985 has steadily become one of the classic repertoire pieces for young bands. Even though it is heavily cross-cued making it suitable for smaller bands, this beautiful work is rich in melodic content, varied scoring, and marvelous counterlines and harmonies. An effective performance vehicle that also teaches legato style and musical sensitivity.

I love this piece because it doesn't make sure everyone is playing. Too often in modern band literature, it feels like everyone has to be playing all the time. It's fine there isn't any percussion. It's fine it takes a while for the full band to play. This piece is just art. It's what pieces need to be like. So what if your percussionists have to sit out a piece? They can sit and enjoy the music. So what if flutes have to wait a while? The texture is completely different without them. We need more pieces like this. It's deceptively easy.
I just played this at a concert and concert assessment. I love this as a horn player!❤️
Just won our state ensemble with this! Very simple, but difficult to fully express, but when you do it's truly beautiful
I love this, played this for freshman year and fell in love with it, wonderful year honestly
this sounds like air for band
I managed to read that as “anybody fork for air”
Brain don’t work in me good.
This piece is actually so good! We played in band a few years ago, and man was it good. I Miss band😢
Love the counter melody that second clarinet has the entire time. It’s such a nice part.
I play second clarinet and it kinda gets confusing but once you get the hang of it
It sounds so beautiful
Sounds like as summer was just beginning

@@cookiemonster1791 Wow that makes me feel so old 😅😅
played it 3 years ago. We couldn't play it at our concert because of covid; it was really sad 😢
I played this and it's awesome
I love this tune, although the writing copies Air for Band by Frank Erickson so much :)
Me and my band just played this for MPA. It's now one of my absolute favorite pieces. I play oboe and I had a lot of fun with such a beautiful piece such as this one. Absolutely phenomenal!
This piece is like rice and chicken. Basic, but better than almost any other choice.
Love playing this rn
Omg I finally found this song again lmao ig I should've just checked my old comments 😭 been looking for this since I graduated
@@alexrea3493 played it in middle school and im really missing middle school concert band 😭
C.E. King HS Band Brought Me Here
Sustain? It carries on. A bit much... It's new. It's Brilliant. Takes your attention away from as if to remind you to be patient, like the calm you need right before you attack. It's only one movement to something much greater...
We have to play this and it's so beautiful! But sounds like Air for Band by Frank Erickson (Love his pieces). I'm a second clarinet btw!
Amazing
I loved this piece I played it in 12 grade #tuba
Beautiful! But I'm really missing percussion in the second half.
YES!!! My band director took this piece for MPA and we percussionists got so mad like why? I mean I love this, but there is always percussion available.
Rikard Peterson He could've added at least a few suspended cymbal rolls, or a light bass drum rhythm
Maybe some slow snare hits (like a army tune)
How about we try "this gem from 1975??? Bought it and used it then with the High School Band where I was teaching. And while we're at it, is this recording really a Band? GG
This is playing at my wedding
You guys need to do hymnsong variants!!
We play this on Anzac day 😇
😍😍😍😍
Trombone 1 carries
Years let's goo. #trombone1
Am I the only percussionist that booed when the unfortunate lack of percussion was discovered? Beautiful piece though.
It sucks how trumpet comes in so late in the song but when we come in we make it sound a lot better this song is just so buetiful to me
Ima be playing this tomorrow guys ima French horn
