Yea, and the prices are nuts. Had a ‘71 that I sold it after 12 yrs in “like new” with a 1776 dual carb, 9 qt oil cooling system that cruised at 80 all day! Sold for $3500! No it would sell for $20,000!!!
We had one when I was a kid. I got my license in the Fall of 1976 and we took ours ( same colour but seemed to be a slightly lighter shade ) on a trip from home to Disneyland in California. We live in Northern British Columbia Canada so it took a "few days". My Dad would use it when he went hunting and one time when I was along we were driving up a logging slash with a "barely a road". We came to an spot where a Ford 250 4x4 was stuck in the road. We stopped to ask him if he needed some help. He said he was okay, he had a winch so ( I was driving) we went around him and continued up to the top of the hill. I will never forget the look on his face as we went past him and we didn't see him again even an hour later when we returned back down the goat path. We had that Van until about 1980 when my brother took it to go fishing up a creek near here. He parked it at the bottom where the creek entered the ocean and wlaked up for a day of steelhead fishing. When he came back down the tide had come up and the VW was under salt water halfway up the sides.
These used to be all over. Met a young lady today who rented one from someone who has three of them. Very friendly and was impressed that I nailed the exact 1972 model year.
The Volkswagen Vanagon was produced starting in May 1979. This 1972 beauty is a Volkswagen Campmobile with a Westfalia interior (Bay Window). Love the name, great Bus!
Impressive. My 72 VDUB bus needs a whole lotta work. But no rust, original glass, matching numbers on engine and transmission. Not a Westie, but for $200 she's been good to me. Always working on her. No garage to do full restoration. But moving to Pennsylvania soon, and I'm bringing her with me, on a trailer. Parked in 05, don't see many here in Las Freaking Vegas.
Man, the more I see the older VW vans, the more I like them!

Spent my younger years riding around in one of these (same year and color). Our parents took us from San Jose as far east as Ohio.
