Me as a 12 year old would have been flipping out getting a Shaq and Jordan in the same pack! Wow! I pulled my 92-93 hoops Shaq rookie out of a pack in ‘92 and still have it!
I think a large portion of the more popular cards getting graded are from people who were sending them in without even expecting a "10". Because of the boom, there was money to be made on the 7,8, & 9's too, being the cost for grading was still so low. Whereas before the pandemic, most people would not send in cards for grading unless they thought they were getting 10's, becuase the margins were not there at that time. Most cases back then, for a majority of cards, getting a 9's was about breaking even (comparing to it's raw value).
i m totally agree the price of the box of nba cards it's totally crazy really it's crazy ! 130$/150$190/ same 250$ when is not 499dollar frankly it's tottally abused, and here we say of 2 years
I agree on the Horry card. He was actually instrumental in a lot of those championships, by hitting a few key game winning shots. Alonzo too, is under rated. Those Magic's All Rookie team cards are a tough pull, a nice one of those would probably harder than a members only Beam Team. Living in Denver at the time, I used to watch Laphonso Ellis and Pack with Mutombo, they were a great squad, Chris Jackson too. I think they were the first 8 seed to beat a 1 in the playoffs? Cool opening!
Shaq rookie cards are dirt cheap nowadays. Finally scored them in PSA 10 with the market crash, Still looking to get the Beam Team Shaq, most likely will get that in an 8 or 9 though. His Fleer Ultra All-Rookie team is my favorite, I scored that in a pack as a kid. For a few months in 1993 until the beam team card was released, the Fleer Ultra All-Rookie team card was his best card. All my friends were jealous of that card.
Based on what you box breaker guys are doing, when you get great cards, the first thing you want to do is get them graded. However who can afford to get cards graded, at $30.00 a pop, if you are member of PSA., Or $50.00 a pop, if you aren't a member. Clearly, who can afford spending $300.00 to grade 10 cards??? Or, $500.00., if you're not someone who has to spend wisely, when buying modern-day on cards that needs to be graded in order for you to see some kind of profit. The on reason why I own some of the older stuff from late eighties and nineties is because even with Jordan cards in boxes, skybox, NBA hoops, and fleer 1989 and 1990 weren't flying off the shelves. Now, if you're penny-wise and pound-foolish, and don't have to deep pockets, therein lies the problem. Therefore, I would advise people to save funds to buy high-end stuff and no just keep shopping around until you can afford what you want. Also, as I've done over the years, collect what you like. Moreover, since I'm from all Massachusetts, while I enjoy collecting fun cards, I'm always collecting cheap cards and memorabilia. This is what makes collecting inexpensive and to fun.you feel me???
