  • APPLEDORE | A tour of Appledore Devon. Devon's best kept secret seaside holiday village
Appledore, a charming Devon village nestled at the mouth of the River Torridge, entices visitors with its rich maritime heritage, vibrant art scene, and delightful small-town atmosphere. Here's why Appledore should be your next destination:
Steeped in seafaring history, Appledore boasts a historic harbor where the iconic Appledore Shipbuilders continue their legacy of crafting magnificent vessels. Explore the harbor, learn about the village's shipbuilding past, or even catch a glimpse of a lifeboat being launched.
Appledore is a haven for art lovers. Wander the winding cobbled streets lined with independent galleries showcasing works by local and regional artists. Be it paintings, sculptures, or handcrafted pottery, Appledore's vibrant art scene offers something for every taste.
Appledore tantalizes taste buds with its delectable offerings. Freshly caught seafood takes center stage on menus, while cozy cafes and traditional pubs provide a quintessential English dining experience. Don't forget to indulge in a scoop of Hocking's ice cream, a local favorite made in North Devon.
Adventure awaits in Appledore. Explore the dramatic coastline on foot, following the South West Coast Path for breathtaking sea views. Kayak or paddleboard on the River Torridge, or take a boat trip for a unique perspective of the village and surrounding estuary.
Appledore Lifeboat Station: Learn about the vital role of the RNLI in keeping seafarers safe and get a close look at the awe-inspiring lifeboats.
Skern Lodge Outdoor Adventure Centre: Get your adrenaline pumping with a variety of activities like climbing, kayaking, and surfing.
Instow Ferry: Take a scenic ferry ride across the estuary to the charming village of Instow, with its sandy beach and charming atmosphere.
Appledore is a perfect base to explore the surrounding villages like Northam, Westleigh, and Mortehoe, each offering unique experiences.
Appledore caters to families with its relaxed pace and abundance of outdoor activities. Explore the rock pools at low tide, build sandcastles on the beach, or simply enjoy a picnic in the park.
Appledore's magic lies in its ability to offer a taste of traditional English charm alongside a vibrant artistic spirit and a deep connection to the sea. Whether you seek historical exploration, artistic inspiration, or outdoor adventure, Appledore promises a delightful and memorable stay.

Another great video. For the years that I lived in Devon, your video's have made me realize I pretty much stuck to the places I was familiar with. Which was great, but there is so much more to see. I don't miss the summer traffic.

I bet - the traffic has been ok for my trip but I timed it to avoid the main busy times!

This is not the full tour ,unfortunately, Irsha Street, aka West Appledore just the other side of the car park was missed completely. Leading down to the lifeboat slip, with over a hundred houses ,some going back to the seventeenth century, well worth the visit.

@@GimbalWalkTV I am sure you will find it very interesting, with tiny alleyways called"Opes" The grander houses were owned by boat owners and captains, the smaller cottages rented by seamen and fishermen...

As many Devon and Cornish towns/villages although very picturesque they are higgledy-piggledy in their appearance making them quaint but oppressive to live in.
