This song was written for his father who passed away.
He must have died young
Yep, I was just commenting on that, Bread has always been my favorite band. Wondering if he's listened to Don McClain song Vincent (flip side of American Pie) that song has some of the most beautiful heartfelt lyrics I've ever heard
@@CHRISRepAZ his father died 9 years before the band made it big and this song was written for him
You're an old soul brother...god bless.
Very true words, dear Username ... and yeah, we bless him through GOD too.
Back when writing, voice, musical talent were required. Pure. No gimmicks.
There goes the Lady Court Tales telling truth and not tales !!!
One of the finest songs a son ever wrote for his Dad.
@ted ritola You can't say "long live" the 70s, as they have passed, sadly.
Mikey Aurelius H The King is dead. Long live the King!
.....there is another fine song written by a son for his dad....Dan Fogelberg's "Leader Of The Band"...
Mikey Aurelius H The 70’s “live” through the lyrics and timeless music
Imapeach1 that song “Leader of the band”’ brings so many wonderful memories to me.
My mom gave me this album. It was her's. She loved that I started liking her music. When I hear this I think of hear. She went to heaven March of 1998.
He wrote this for his dad when hid dad died.
"If" is another great song. One of their best actually
My favorite Bread song... But they're all good.
If. A timeless anthem of love
Yes to 'If'.
I second that.
I sang it before I proposed. Didn't do it justice, but I felt it.
This is one of my favorite groups as I grew up. Our generation was so fortunate to have great groups and great lyrics to great instrumentation. Yes. dude, you gotta react to "If".
In one word, dear Ashley-of-Stewart .... "ABSOLUTELY" !!!
David Gates one of the best singers out there! So many great songs!!
Their song "Diary" really makes the heart ache, and to me, defines Love like nothing else.
I love that on too!!!
If your heart hasn't been broken by the message in that beautiful song, I guess you haven't gotten there yet.
Heartbreaking for sure! Gorgeous song though
Told ya! 😅 Thx for staying on the Bread path. I'm 58 and so many groups have fallen to the side for me. But never Bread. ❤
Bread is a gift that keeps giving 🎁
How does one communicate their agreement unto the dear Kj-of-Robbi without sounding like they are merely parroting him?!?
Yes WOW. I haven't heard this in so long and didn't know they did it. Sure needed this song . Only now I'm wiping tears. Not just tears. This had me balling. Miss my dad so much after 26 years. And now with my mom not good. Thank you Jayvee.
"Baby, I'm a Want You" is highly recommended, sir!
Of course it should. I still bawl when I listen to this and probably will for a very long time. It says it all. We're not here all that long and before you know it, it's over. My parents are both dead but I think about them every day and I know my day will come one day. Tell people that you are close to you what they mean to you. And that they love them.
In the Living Years by Mike and the Mechanics is a similar song.
I was telling my daughter how much I miss my sweet father tonight. I can still hear his loving voice. This song just brought me to tears. He adopted me, he chose me, my hero. I am so fortunate.
Thank you for touching on such great music.
They have another good one "Baby I'm-a Want You" -- :-)
My heart strings puller by far is , "It Don't Matter to Me". I LOVE IT!!
He is kinda the male version of Karen Carpenter. Liquid silk.
SHELTER: LOVE YOUR COMMENT ABOUT DAVID GATES VOICE: "LIQUID SILK". YES IT TRULY WAS!!
Great comparison. 👍
great insight
Can you imagine a duet with those 2?
@ Shelter, That's a beautiful sentiment 🥰🏴
Cant wait for "If".
Favorite Bread song .... still get the chills when I hear it.
My favorite too. Brings tears to my eyes every time.
One of bread's best songs I love this one. What a good choice again love your reaction nice.
Ayse Clark-Carter I have this album o LP . ....😂
Can't listen to this without crying thinking about my dad
A sadly beautiful song. I remember this; I loved it then...love it still. Thanks for reacting to this one.
Phenomenal song writing. Love their vocal style too
Thank you for bringing me back to the my youth!!! I haven't heard this song since the 70s!!!!
The 70's is my favorite decade of music. Born in 1970. Grew up with such great music like this.
Get Spotify or listen on UA-cam!!! All the great songs are just sitting out there waiting for you.
David's dad passed away years before Bread began their climb to popularity, hence the son's longing for his dad to have witnessed his success. 🍞 is food for the soul 😋..."If", "Aubrey", "Diary","Never Let Her Go" are all absolutely satisfying.
God all mighty very much blessed BREAD
I think that 'Best of Bread' album, was the only one of their's I had. it's got everything on it. Not sure if I still have it, but it could be buried in a box of old cassettes that's been on a shelf in my closet for years.
I'm so glad you are appreciating soft rock, so many people just brushed this off as too "lite". if you love them, then you would also love the group America, A Horse With No Name.
“Name the horse!” Richard Jeni
Hey Mike: I recommended Horse with No Name to Jayvee too!! Great old song!!
I love Ventura Highway by America
The 60's and 70's musical vibes are unmatched when it came to quality, variety and talent. Music started sliding downhill in the late 80's and is still at that bottom in comparison.
I still have the album '' The Sound of Bread '' on 8 track and me and my future wife played it all the while when we moved into a small bedsit in 1979
Still playing that old eight track? Haha. Never was into those but I repaired plenty of them at the TV shop I worked at in the 70's.
David Gates, the lead singer of Bread, reportedly wrote this beautiful song as a tribute to his father. This was the wonderful era of the singer/songwriter which you have discovered by listening to Cat Stevens, John Denver, and now Bread. My older sister loved this group and had all their records so I grew up listening to these songs. So happy you discovered the soft rock sound that was so popular in the 70's (before disco).
The beauty of music is you can interpret it to mean what it means to you.
I was gonna say just the same thing. Spot on.
This song means so much to me. My husband died during a traffic accident. I listened to this all the time.
My Dad died in a car accident when I was 18. I’m now 66. You never stop missing them
Powerful and perfect Javon. You best believe I'm not taking my Dad or anybody else in my life for granted.
I first heard this song when I was 17 years David Cates have the most beautiful voice .I still listen to it,and it like every time I listen ,it’s like the first time I hear it . it gives me chills ithe words are so powerful.it such a beautiful song for someone you lose that’s close to your heart.
Great song. Remember this when I was a little kid.🇺🇸💜
Listening to this song on Father's day. Miss my Dad so much ❤️
Listen to Goodby Girl as well. David Gate’s voice is so smooth and beautiful!!!
New subscriber so enjoying the music and your reaction and appreciation of it.
I had this played at my daughter’s funeral. This is so beautiful!!
So sorry to hear that you lost your daughter. Sending you a hug.
Melanie Pemberton Thank you!
They are Simply the best. Been listening to them for 46 years
Fell in love in the 70 s to this song 🎼 💞

One of these artists whose songs have been covered by many other singers
This guy is the best "reactor" on UA-cam: always looks happy and positive and plays great music!
Yessss If its such an emotional song
Besides The Bee Gees Bread had the best love songs .
Best of Bread I think was the #1 make out songs of the 70's era, lol
AMEN TO THAT SONJA! I USED TO DAYDREAM THAT DAVID GATES LOVED ME!
Great band,great voice,many hits
This is a special song I shared with my 3 1/2 yr old son Luke. He passed away in my arms. I hear this music and song and it reminds me of all that little spirit taught me about love and death. I would give all my tomorrows for one day to be with him again. Tears in heaven. Love you, little star.
For all the dads out there! Dad I miss you so much! I hope you know how much I love you, still.
Guitar Man and Lost Without Your Love are awesome songs by them.
Best of Bread was the first album I ever bought around 1975. Listened to it visiting my cousins and had to have it. Love every song.
About as beautiful as a song can be.
Beautiful song. I miss hearing great music like this.
Beautiful…I miss my dad so much.

Beautiful crying!!!!
I lost my mom in 015 /dad in 018. I learned just last week this song was about him losing his dad . Now it has new meaning for me. This kind of song touches deep and lets you know there's more to life than life itself. Thank you for this! I needed it!

Timeless!!

I grew up with hearing my mother in the kitchen singing along to bread whenever they came on the radio. She made it a point to learn the lyrics so she could sing it herself without the radio.
Another great song written for a father is 'this is it' by kenny loggins, he has so so many good songs in the 70s before his 80s fame
Great song, legendary group and lead vocals by David Gates
Anyone and everyone should listen to this great song and pay real attention. Poetry set to such a beautiful melody. If you aren't in tears with the great lyrics of this beautiful song paying tribute to the love he has for his parents and the people that helped guide his life growing up. I bawl when I listen to this as I miss my parents and the great guidance and unrequited love they gave me.
Touches the very soul beautiful voices .

Grew up w this beautiful song in college n always thought was bout his girlfriend but either way brings tears 58 yr old Fla. Vet lu man gr8 reaction.
I was led to believe it was about the brother he lost
This is a beautiful song . If you haven’t listened to Mike and The Mechanics Living Years you should give that a go. It’s also written for a father who has passed away.
The album Best of Bread is stellar all the way through it.
I'm digging watching you react to this music. I believe music is the gateway to ones soul and the fact that you're young and really feeling and appreciating these songs is amazing. I grew up with this music and still feel it like you do so great job I'm enjoying you my brother keep it up my friend
Beautiful song. Just found out 6 months ago this song is written for his Daddy!!! Wow!
Absolutely beautiful...love for his father.
I lost the love of my life, my best friend, my husband to cancer in 2018....this song says EVERYTHING I feel, especially the line “nobody else could ever know the part of me that can’t let go” and I would give anything just to touch him once again 😔
Love this song. Reminds me of my son. He died 2008 age 18. The part of the song where he says. No one will ever know the part of me that can't let go brings tears everytime😢
Bread has so many great songs. Diary is so sweet. You will love it.
This is the one Bread song I always loved, good verses and irresistible chorus.
You Really Love This Group!! IT'S SO OBVIOUS!!! They Really Have A Special Sound!!!
This is one song where the words say everything I would say to my ex Fred Reid.... miss you and love you always💞🤗🥰
I had forgotten this one and its a wonderful tribute to his Dad. I couldn't remember what the song was I couldn't play when my Dad died and now I can listen to it without crying my eyes out. Your reactions to this song are lovely to watch and hear, David sings with his soul in his voice and a voice that lingers in the memory even in mine lol. Take care and stay safe please everyone, love , hugs and peace to you all Mary-Ellen UK
This is what you call music, one of my favourite songs.
Beautiful song, especially knowing the story behind it.
Another beautiful song about a lost love is "I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You" by Colin Hay. It makes my heart ache every time!
I was very young when I first heard this very impactful song. 🌷
I’m 64 and your reaction is similar to what I experienced at 15 upon hearing Bread for the first time. They are my favourite band to this day. I love this concept of seeing young people react to the older songs, it’s bringing a newness to the songs for me. Just shows you good music is good music no matter the era. Thanks for posting.
ua-cam.com/video/5HgblrQw8sY/v-deo.html
I quoted these lyrics when my mom passed away 2 yrs ago. I miss her everyday.❤️
Song about his Dad, really makes step back and look at whether you did enough to let your parents know what they meant to you
Their music makes you believe in love!!
One of the most awesome 70s songs everrrrrr!!! Love this so much. Thanks for bringing back memories and sharing the magic!
Great song!
I just lost my Dad in March. I would give everything I own to have him back. Song hit me hard.
David Gates and Bread pretty much owned their lane in my high school years. Gates singing is as smooth as silk with messages we all relate to. We all knew it. Even other artists who had the chances to perform with him knew they were with a special talent. If anyone ever tells you they don't like this music then buy them a one way bus ticket to as far away as you can afford
another great song by Bread is "Aubrey" beautiful song!
Wow! Used to jam out to this song! Good to see "younger people" jammin to these types of songs! 👏👏✌
I had this album back in the 70s, played the heck out of it. Love David Gates voice. Beautiful
Bread is amazing. Sad that, that no one is producing that type of music.
Thank you for exposing others to all of the music you play !!!
Big Love
The songs are so simple and honest, they hit you right in the heart
I like "The Goodbye Girl" too~sung by David Gates ( from the eponymous film~)
“Baby I’m a want you”.....another gotta year...original recording
One of the best from bread , your reaction is great ,makes feel young
My mom passed but whenever I hear this song, I think of her. Great reaction ❤️
One of the best songs ever!!! A tear-jerker. I knew you would love it.
All songs by Bread are amazing and even David's song for Goodbye Girl. Try Diary that is sooooo good
Carrie Underwood with Vince Gill "How Great thou Art" (beautiful)
Poetry set to music, no doubt about it. I got to grow up with this music, these emotional songs with instant connections. Glad you find it Jayvee
That is such a great song. Don’t miss out on DIARY and AUBREY !
What a beautiful song writer for his father
