Ok. I have this same monitor (older version), this is an issue when you are set to 8-bit color. Extremely annoying because 10-bit, 270hz needs DSC, causing long alt tabs, but it does fix it.

I recently did that transition with the GP850P (just a referesh of the non-P apparently?). That still seems to be the to go choice, and at least for me the 180hz overdrive works really well,
I got the Acer Nitro XV272UZ last week for $220 converted, but I can't seem to find the non-Z anywhere. It works fine though, even though the speakers do not provide the best sound.

It's 1080p, but I'd like to see some cheap ASRock monitors if ACER is letting these through QC. Edit: oooooh, integrated wifi. I don't even know how that would work.
Idk man, maybe it's just me but I like a nice 4k 120hz (even 60hz) image on my OLED TV over a 1440p monitor at a higher refresh rate. I was a little surprised to see more ghosting on the lg with vrr when frames were inconsistent. But the XF273U X is a VA panel and I’m wondering if it’s actually as bad as the W2 came out to be. Considering returning the LG and getting the acer again. While the LG is certainly more crisp, in games like warzone I can’t stand the ghosting when frames get to low, didn’t notice that on the XF273U X
Do a review on KTC H32S17. I just got it and it is amazing. ONE of the best i have ever gotten. beats my nano dot Samsung monitor, i think. almost 0 motion blur. blacks are good.
I bought a budget 240hz from acer some years ago, but it had severe frame skipping issues unless you downclocked it to 220 or used G-SYNC. Never again.
Hi @Monitors Unboxed So my question is, What setting on this monitor do I need to have it on for the 240hz in menu? Also I use a Spyder X Pro. So I should be using the Wide LED setting and not Standard when calibrating? Also once Calibrated what color setting do you recommend? Should I use warm and 2.2 or something different? So far I think I got a really good color output going on. sRGB is at 100% according to the Spyder X Pro. Thanks for the review. And Subbed of course.
Something irritating about monitors with such long collections of numbers and letters after the "main" name is that it's impossible to find the exact review of a product. Those long suffixes differ, and while the dimensions and appearances look identical, you don't know what's changed specs wise if even one letter differs.

Ah, I remember buying the XV272U when it was first released because it received good reviews for its color accuracy. I had to return it after one day because an entire quadrant had a totally different color temp than the other parts of the screen. Sad to see that this W2 revision didn't do any better.
does the 240Hz even make enough of a difference when compared to 165-170Hz that a lot of other monitors in that price range have? I feel like having generally good response and low inverse ghosting is preferable over just raw refresh rate.
It is noticeable. The smoothness and responsivenes is just that little bit sharper. But it's nowhere near as noticeable as the jump from 60 to 144. Even 100 to 144 feels like a bigger jump. I had an aw2418, and while it was great for csgo, i got a 1440p 165hz acer to replace it. I am adamant that going from 60 to 144 hz actually made me play better, but i can't say the same for 165 vs 240. I think i'd pay about 50-70 bucks extra for 240hz vs 165 if the rest of the monitor is the same. It is better in competitive shooter, but it's not a must have. Saying that as someone who grinded to supreme in csgo and played for about 4.5k hours. If you are not playing with an ultra competitive mindset, i wouldn't even consider it. This thing is way too compromised imo. My main HP x34 is barely more expensive, ultrawide, and performs basically flawlessly at 165hz.
I doubt it being a major factor, tbh. 60-90 is a big jump, up to 144hz is a smaller improvement, and beyond that its just diminishing returns. If you can even get that much FPS. But on this screen the high framerate is just a complete failure, judging from the test. The input lag is not really better than on 165-180 hz screens, and the bad overshoot/motion clarity will make the 240 hz look worse. Theres 180 hz screens for less with very good motion clarity.
Thanks for the review, but do you what I miss in these? The warmth it gives when you are before it, in these heated days, this is very important, as a content creator I'm a long time on two 27" IPS 1440p monitors, but they give a reasonable warmth, and if you don't have air conditioning, this feels like a furnace in front of you. If your reseller doesn't have these on display, you cannot feel that, because they become more and more online shops. Now I must say the ones I got, don't give warmth as my Dell monitors I had before.
@@Postman00 Power consumption is 100% translated into heat. PCs are basically the same efficiency as electrical heaters. Modern screens should use 20-40 watt usually, dont think they would create much heat compared to the PC.
75W from 2 monitors in negligible... Your whole system will consume much more power, especially with AMD GPUs that consume a lot of power when idling. If you can, you should lower the brightness of your displays. That will lower the power consumption dramatically. If your room is very bright, I'd recommend a blackout roller blind, it will take care of sunlight.
@@termitreter6545 LEDs (backlight) are between 30-50% efficient depending on the exact diodes used, and how bright you drive them. A big percentage of a display's power consumption is its backlight, which leads them to possibly have a power consumption to heat output ratio significantly higher than 1. On the other hand, PC fans, drive motors and RGB LED power consumption is comparatively less significant on PCs. Anyway, power consumption varies between units at the same nits (9:53), so that's basically the ideal indication of efficiency. For displays with external power supplies, a small amount of the heat output would be positioned at the DC power supply rather than in front of your face.

Can you guys please include, in the adjustments demonstration, whether or not it turns completely into portrait mode in your monitor reviews. It's really useful to know and see
Tim doesn't always show it but he always says it when it does have portrait mode. If you paid attention he said it does that and has that extra feature of being able to spin around on its base (something I've never seen in any monitor review before).
He says at that moment it has pivot support, but that unfortunately doesn't for sure mean it supports portrait mode, there's been other monitors with pivot adjustment but not fully rotating. That's why I was asking for that to be more specific, or at least show it in the video to be clear. They're already there showing all the other adjustments so why not throw it in @@vigilant_1934
I absolutely recommend against this monitor. It has massive problems with image retention under specific circumstances, and I've had mine RMAd 3 times and each one of them has had the same exact issue. Every time Acer claims they have no idea what I'm talking about and I have to fight for it. This monitor has caused me more stress than I'd like to admit. I hate it.
Straight up sounds like a lie it doesn't even sound plausible dude
@@marktackman2886 you have a poor imagination

@@marktackman2886it can happen. Even Dell has some initial issues with image retention on their G3223Q. 🤷
Ok. I have this same monitor (older version), this is an issue when you are set to 8-bit color. Extremely annoying because 10-bit, 270hz needs DSC, causing long alt tabs, but it does fix it.
This is great. Would be great to see more reviews on budget displays :)

I purchased the Acer XV272U W2 the same day as this review. I believed it to be a great purchase initially. However, like the specific monitor in this review, mine had a flickering issue that completely ruined the overall functionality and it was a great eye sore. I would recommend going for a more expensive alternative. Remember you get what you pay for.
You get what you pay for! I wouldn't pay $1 for a flickering monitor
@@oliverwilliam6931 my acer vg271u is flickering too, but i make appointment at local acer repair center (canada burnaby, 2mins drive from my home)they change a new panel to me, now it has been 4 years. no issue

I had this same monitor paid for and awaiting processing. It was $360 today but I figured the HDMI 2.1 might be worthwhile. Then I saw this video drop and boy did I cancel that order so fast. I swapped over to the HP 27qs for $300 so we'll see how that one goes. The boys saved me today.
my man! nice i was looking close between both monitors yesterday as well and was about to bite the bullet on the Acer and then I saw the 27qs and decided it was the better option too.
Tf?? What 27 qs?
So how is the HP 27qs with you so far ? is it worth it or should I go for another brand
Generally monitor names include the brand tag, size of the monitor and some letters to seperate them.
Acer nitro monitors use the brand name, size of the monitor, a few distinguishing letters and ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs
Would it be possible for you to benchmark Display Stream Compression? Vesa claims its visually lossless to most people (75% or something) by their own internal testing and it would be nice for a 3rd party to confirm this
It's actually loseless. Nobody can get the difference
I just bought a brand-new 28-inch 4K 144hz display for $180 with stand. It's got HDR400, fast-ips, 10bit color, USB-C reverse charging and 1ms GTG response time. Crazy price nowadays.

I recently did that transition with the GP850P (just a referesh of the non-P apparently?). That still seems to be the to go choice, and at least for me the 180hz overdrive works really well,
The XV272UZ is currently at 277 USD in Sweden... With 270hz
I got the Acer Nitro XV272UZ last week for $220 converted, but I can't seem to find the non-Z anywhere.
It works fine though, even though the speakers do not provide the best sound.
love the nitro series. have the 144hz version for almost 3 years now. bought it used and never fails
Bought the 144Hz version just before lockdown for under $500. After lockdown this went up to almost $600 if you could find one. Great unit and no complaints for what it needs to do.
I bought one for US$320 in November 2021. The price at that point of time was quite crazy.
I bought mine yesterday for 180$
I recently bought a Odyssey G7 for $360 after tax. I got a very nice discount and I'm completely happy with my purchase.
Would really like to see you guys review the AW2723DF. There needs to be something higher end for those who don't want an OLED monitor.
ASRock sells a 240hz monitor for half the price of this. Would love to see you guys do some testing on ASRock's lineup of monitors! Lol
It's 1080p, but I'd like to see some cheap ASRock monitors if ACER is letting these through QC. Edit: oooooh, integrated wifi. I don't even know how that would work.
Trash 1080p VAs
Thanks for the review, hope there will be more for monitors around this price
Why? Why pay for fake hdr and sub par features all for the sake for 'budget' reasons.
Idk man, maybe it's just me but I like a nice 4k 120hz (even 60hz) image on my OLED TV over a 1440p monitor at a higher refresh rate. I can just clearly see the flaws with the lower resolution; especially when sitting "monitor close". Anyway, there's really no one who reviews TV Just For Gaming. Or, at least no one who really focuses on their gaming performance. I'd personally love to see a bit of that. Great video as always. Well done 👏
If your just a casual gamer than a 4k monitor 60 hz would be fine 🙏

This panel is also used in the xb273u nx. A premium gsync monitor. Also no srgb clamp, lots of IPS glow and 900 euros.
Weirdest thing is there’s a calibration report in the box for srgb with less than delta 2 error on any colours. But boot windows 11 and immediately the blue stock wallpaper is oversaturated and can only be fixed by enabling hdr, which puts backlight at 100 percent.

Hey Guys,
First of all thanks for the great Work. Your Videos about Hardware especially about Monitors is great. I wouldnt buy a Monitor without a review from you. Ist there any Chance you review the Dell G2724D any time soon? A comparison of this and the LG 27GL850-B is the Last Thing i'm waiting for before my buying decision. The MSI MAG 274QPF-QD costs 150€ more than These both and isnt a Option for me. Thanks in advance and keep Up the great Work!
For anyone watching this in July 2024 looking for a budget 1440p monitor...this monitor is on sale at Newegg and Walmart for $219...
I worked in on-site support 10 years ago for a few years. We used Acer monitors and PC's. I will never buy an Acer product EVER! I've never seen such poor quality equipment. I had hundreds of the exact same issue with monitors and again with the PSUs. This is in an office of 600 people. Meaning I had to replace an Acer product for near 400 people. Between monitors and PC's. In the space of 12 months. They all got to about the 24 month mark and just died.
The 170hz model is $189.99 if you're a prime user during the Prime Day sale.
I bought a Sceptre 1440p monitor last year for $230 I wasn’t expecting much for that price but it’s surprising me.
Just found the HP OMEN 27QS on sale for $300 with similar specs. Wonder if it's also a mediocre product.
Just curious... is it normal to have such thick bezels? Or is it a setting issue?
I ended up getting a ktc m27t20. Would love to see you guys do a review on it

Is there somewhere you post the optimized settings used when testing for the best responsiveness? It would be helpful to copy for better results than the defaults.
Can you review the Acer XF273U Xbmiiprx? Based on this review I returned mine (250 usd) and purchased the LG 27gr83q ultragear (400usd) that you suggest as a better monitor.
The Hp Omen 27qs is also a 1440p 240hz monitor in the same price range

Tim please review the msi g274qpx, 27 it's also a 240hz monitor

It's placebo.
Power consumption is a fairly good estimate of how much heat the unit puts out.
@@Postman00 Power consumption is 100% translated into heat. PCs are basically the same efficiency as electrical heaters.
Modern screens should use 20-40 watt usually, dont think they would create much heat compared to the PC.
@@Postman00 True, but I don't see much attention for this, if you are in a gaming room, other devices also create warmth, so it can be a thing.
It is £214.90 in the uk on amazon. Yes that is the price and not on sale either.
