This guy is great. As much as I like to watch videos with Peter Follansbee and his ilk, I always feel disheartened because they have so much nicer tools and shop. But here we have a guy like me, with a lot of homemade tools even, who is a little haphazard but turns out a phenomenal product. You sir inspire me
I loved hearing you talk about your family while you were working - about how they appreciate and treasure what you do. I can imagine that there’s a lot of love there. I am grateful that you shared a bit of that with us. Your bowls are lovely too. Blessings.
I really enjoyed watching you pull that bowl out of the ½ log. I love it when you speed up the video and audio together. The sped up audio really makes the effect. Thank you very much for sharing your craftsmanship and your encouragement to just try projects like this without worrying about messing up. That really is the only way to develop a skill/craft, isn't it.
This is just brilliant. It's wonderful to see such a display of skill, patience, & flat out love of craft. It really gives me an appreciation for the craftspeople & farmers of the past who would have had to work this hard over & over again to produce their own goods for use or sale. Thankyou so much for sharing your work with us!
I enjoyed your video and appreciate your attitude toward life. You seem like a guy who respects the land, cares for others, and appreciates hard work and the good life offers. A "good 'ole boy" as we'd call you where I'm from. Thank you.
The level of skill and knowledge you demonstrate with each video just blows me away Mark, you amaze me! I appreciate your content and value your contribution to the UA-cam community. God Bless You.
Thanks Wayne. I have subscribe to you too. I understand starting with nothing. Remember Gods promises, their are 365 promises, one for every day of the year. " I will give the desires of your heart to those that love me". Teaching people your skills is a fun desire to have too.
Very cool markp0177, I was just thinking about this last week and wondering. :) Do you feel they're doing a good job with the production? The trailer looks brilliant (and I know someone of y'all)!
Thanks for this video Mark, very inspiring, I had no idea of how much work it would take to make your own wooden bows with traditional tools. Must get a lot of satisfaction from them though when finished.
Man never really thought about the amount of work it use to take to make bowls and other things in ancient times; it makes you appreciate today's machinery. Always like to watch your videos and look forward to seeing your restoration of the antique chair. You said the chair was over 100 years old, did you check to see if the chair was worth anything? I watch antiques roadshow and sometimes when people restore a old piece of furniture the price goes down.
Your a great man with the bowl making sir. It’s a skill that as to be passed on to people that respect all wild materials with your downloads it’s a bless ✌️👍 hope to grasp this skill myself. Thanks 🙏
I appreciate your bowl making skills. The small child's rocking chair matches one we had in the 1950's from Sears. My mother bought matching rockers--a large one for her, and a child's for me. Same black finish with same decoration on the headrest. I don't think it's 100 years old. I could be wrong though.
Where is Mark? I would like to take a class! Love this man. What would I want to have for a bowl...the biodegradable bowls coming on the market now, or Mark's bowls? Mark's bowls hands down, for generations to come. What a beautiful Christmas gift.
Nice! Thank you mark for all your informative videos, esp, your solar panel construction video (best I have found on UA-cam) look forward to your next video
Loved the the video, I really like how well the bowl turned out. keep up the good work, and keep posting videos, id love to see what else you can make.
you are right about muscle memory; been woodworking since age19, and now I'm 67, and just as strong now as then...and still woodworking big thick planks for benches. BTW, your thumb is gonna be sore, you keep holding the adze like that; just make a fist around the handle. And a beautiful adze it is!!
Nice video, but I think you should chop on a separate tree stump instead of your shave horse... Too nice to destroy. Sam Miceli Quincy, Massachusetts USA
I know a man around ware I live he is my dads friend and he looks like he could be your twin if you were standing side by side and also I love to do wood crafts and I think I might try making a bowl it looks very cool
You are a fantastic craftsman and teacher, and a friend and I have recently got into woodcarving. One of our problems has been splits occurring in the wood we harvest- how do you avoid this?
You have some great tools... nothing more satisfying than a totally handmade product from wood.

I'm an amateur wood worker and damn I am blown away you made a bowl all by hand that's amazing skill and mastery.
This was great. Thank you for that bit of advice for beginners and not have too high of expectations when getting started.

good job mark.
most importantly thank you for helping out your locals. (the fire wood for the widows you mentioned)
Wonderful to see traditional tools being used so well, the bowls are a lovely shape and colour.
Great piece Mark, and I love the fact that you bless the elderly with firewood ... great community work. Keep it up
great tool
Unreal craftsmanship well done!
I've just restored my Great Grandmothers butter churn and I'm looking for another project. Thanks for showing us your skills
Very fine wood pieces

***** I like the trailer. I have not seen the episode yet. I have to wait till it airs. The trailer builds intrigue.
Yes it does markp0177, I like it. I hope they don't commercialize it too much and play on fear. :)
Great job!!
This is terrific!!!!
Thanks for this video Mark, very inspiring, I had no idea of how much work it would take to make your own wooden bows with traditional tools. Must get a lot of satisfaction from them though when finished.

Already fixed the chair. I did not video it because of a trade secret. I was hired by a old man who was surprising his wife with a family Heirloom.
Your a great man with the bowl making sir. It’s a skill that as to be passed on to people that respect all wild materials with your downloads it’s a bless ✌️👍 hope to grasp this skill myself. Thanks 🙏
That was absolutely incredible!! God bless you and your family, thanks for the video
Great video! You put together a good no nonsense tutorial. Very simple and informative. Nice work on the bowl too!
Very nice!
Beatifull! And you didnt need any machines to make that. I like to use hand tools because these are cheap and not take much space 🤩

Beautiful work. Very skillful. I'll take my time and give it a try on a hunk of cedar I've been staring at for a year.

Great Job Mark! Might be trying this myself anytime soon...
wow! beautiful craftsmanship
I love this! That foot powered vice grip (not sure of the proper name) is great! I'm just carving my first spoon, so I have a lot to learn.
It’s essentially a shave horse. But it’s a modified/custom version of it. I’ll be copying it soon.
Enjoyed the video ! Nice work !
Loved the the video, I really like how well the bowl turned out. keep up the good work, and keep posting videos, id love to see what else you can make.

Great work! Big heart! Love that! Salute to you my friend! What’s the plan to make that log vice thing there? I wanna make one

cool bowl
Mark, Just starting in carving wooden bowls. What I am interested in is that very cool bench you made for carving. Anything you can show us about it?
Its called a shaving horse, I have built a few but I do not have a video showing how. Sorry.
I like to give a wider some wood whenever I get a chance too. Just seems like the right thing ta do.
your the man
Mark-
Is there anything that you DONT do? I really enjoy your videos and am taking notes on all your instruction, thanks
You are a fantastic craftsman and teacher, and a friend and I have recently got into woodcarving. One of our problems has been splits occurring in the wood we harvest- how do you avoid this?
Some wood cracks more than others. The red maple does not split as easy as others.
