Stunning locomotive, great work! I've been looking into repainting and detailing Athearns for a while now and I know how to add details but how to paint them? What sort of brush should I use and for something like an anti-glare is masking tape in order?
Thank you! Ilike to use a good quality paint brush and acrylic paints. Using a cheap brush leaves horrible brush marks. Acrylic paint seems to do a great job of drying in hiding the brush marks, along with a good brush which minimizes that as well. Any parts that require a light color gets a gray flat primer. I did have to mask off the nose, again, using a good quality masking tape. You can get by using regular masking tape cut down to size and then burnished with the end of an X-acto knife or other rounded and tool so you do not get any bleed, and you get sharp straight lines. Cutting masking tape with a sharp razor blade or knife blade will give you sharp lines.
I can recall a DY&I layout was done in Model Rail Roading some time ago
Athearn is releasing another run on the SD38 and will have more detail. DT&I will be on the upgraded run. It will be on the R-T-R line.
Love the gong bell.
