  • More antics by our busy dog Luna as she starts to use more than one word button to communicate.
    Always grateful for hungerforwords.com for showing us that we can better communicate with our pets.

      You saying ,,breakthrough" like they found out that dogs can understand englisch. This is the same as learning commands. When the dog presses Treat it gets a treat and it learns the Position of the Button and the Sound. But you could give the dog a Treat everytime when he presses the "water" Button. Its the same as when you feed a cow everytime you ring a bell it will always come when you ring the bell

    • @rjchavers9267
      @rjchavers9267 3 роки тому +18

      @@MrMrbobo46 you're not grasping the overall breakthrough. Maybe you haven't seen all of Billi's videos, but Billi is capable of acknowledging her emotions and says "Billi happy" for instance. That's complex and psychological in essence. I also saw another dog that alerted its human that it's nose was hurt and the human took it to a vet to find out that the dog had a threatening infection. Another dog had a thorn in its paw and alerted its human leading the human to find and remove a painful thorn from its paw. The two dogs used buttons saying "ouch" combined with the appropriate body part button. These are complex understandings of emotions, actions and effective communication. It is in fact a breakthrough. It's not just a Pavlovian display based on getting treats.

      It's random, dude. Dogs cant make up sentences by themselves. Do you think that we would not have discovered this by now? You think this woman and her little home experiment just did that while scientists and breeders through history couldn't? Honestly, give me a break, that's exceptionally cocky.

    • @dnrzooLunaandIzzyTalk

    • @squishish
      @squishish 3 роки тому +2

      @@asyncasync Cats do too. BilliSpeaks is very convincing, and super far along with words at this point. Of course they can't at first, they have to learn the words and then they start stringing them together, like us learning new languages. As far as I'm aware scientists and breeders haven't tried to do this yet because.. they don't have incentive to. You can pretty much guess what an animal wants and they learn words by repeated use of you. For instance, all of my dogs have learned "outside" because it's a fairly unique word and they all know what it means. Breeders and scientists don't really need to know much more than that, but it's obviously real since there's so many channels and accounts teaching their animals human language and words. Just look into it some more.

    • @asyncasync
      @asyncasync 3 роки тому +2

      @@squishish yes yes, but you need to be careful to notice when they cherry pick these video. Notice how a lot of them are short clips. Makes me wonder how many times they tried filming before getting an apparent breakthrough.
      To teach a dog that pressing the outside button will increase their chances of going outside is no problem for me at all. Birds can do even more impressive things than that (look at all those puzzles that they solve).
      However I highly doubt that they understand how to form sentences. If anything that sentence is just one long word to them.

    • @squishish
      @squishish 3 роки тому +3

      @@asyncasync No duh, they're learning. Parents don't post all the clips of their baby falling before it walks. But, why would these people have reason to lie? They think it's cool and want to share. Breakthroughs take time and trial and error for the pet to reason through it. Also I know they cherry pick because without that it would be 15 minutes of waiting for a response and then just the button press. They're trimming down the thinking time bc nothing happens during it until the dog or cat uses their buttons.
      BilliSpeaks has pretty long clips before cuts and also she has learned to communicate consistently through her buttons. Paragraphs of sentences? Sure, not there yet. But the fact they can combine words like "happy outside" or "Happy "pet name"" is incredible already. I forget what dog it was, apologies, but since her "beach" button was broken she used "happy water outside." It just takes time and patience.

    can you show the process by which you taught the dog what each button meant

    • @dnrzooLunaandIzzyTalk
      @dnrzooLunaandIzzyTalk  4 роки тому +1

      I started by teaching my dog to shake and then I would hold the "Treat" button in my hand and hold it out like I was waiting to shake. When she pressed it I would give her a treat. I slowly lowered the button to the ground until I could remove my hand and she would still press it for a treat. This got her used to pressing the buttons and after that I've just modeled it. For example, I put one button by the back door and every time I went outside I would press the button. Pretty soon the dogs started pressing it, mostly just in curiosity. However, I would always respond and let them out which reinforced the behavior. I did the same thing with the hungry button - always pressing it before they were fed. They definitely make the connection between the words and the action. Eventually I moved all the buttons to a board once they got the hang of it and understood the cause and effect relationship. I think it's important to use words that you already use daily because it seems to make it easier for the dogs to learn the associated button.
