I had the pleasure of watching Sergio Sr. training at Duncan Y just prior to the 72 Olympia and he was AWESOME, just an unbelievable specimen of a human being. Arthur Jones brought out a different look to Sergio's physique and yes Arnold did admit that Sergio was superior that night. It was all about business and whose pictures on the cover of magazines would bring the $$$$
I met Sergio three times back in the 70's. I used to go to both the IFBB and WBBG contests which were held in New York at the time. I saw Segio compete but in all honesty he was always slightly out of shape. Huge with great proportions but never truly cut.
I had the pleasure with another friend from Cuba that Sergio had contact with his Cuban coach Roger González RIP. in the early 90's, and at the same time with his mother who lived near my house in Guanabacoa, Havana. Because the Cuban communist government never allowed him to have contact with his mother in Cuba, because he was a deserter from the Cuban weightlifting team.
The whole damn team defected along w/ Sergio chasing him down the street to the US embassy. We're talking about 20 dudes running like hell w/ the Cuban guards chasing them all the way to the embassy gate! I bet that was funny as hell to see.
I know Sergio Oliva Jr is just trying to be humble and civil but he knows deep down that his father Sergio Oliva snr was a better complete bodybuilder and he was gonna be the face of bodybuilding up to the 70's but the weiders didn't want that coz he was black period that is the reason why they screwed him in favor of Arnold but the young man can't say it coz he fears he can get screwed too.
We put the link to the full video in each of these mini-video's descriptions. The full video is uploaded on Monday's and the mini-videos start on Wednesday.
No disrespect to Jr. but he is DEAD WRONG. Ahnuld never on his best day came remotely close to equalling Sergio Oliva Sr.'s peak physique. He wore a 28 waist while weighing 242lbs & Ahnuld wore a 32. Oliva's arms were far, FAR better/larger. The Weedies chose Ahnuld because he's white. That's it. Sorry but fact. Arthur Jones had Sergio in the best shape of his life when he went to Paris to compete. RIP Mr Oliva. Sure wish I could've known you.
Although I like Sergio Oliva, he was old, set in his ways, and stubborn as a jackass. He was his own worst enemy. And Jr. is right. Arnold was very gregarious, engaging, personable, and fun to be around. Sergio Oliva was his own worst enemy. And he never, ever really "got it". He was a very proud man who could not admit he was ever wrong about ANYTHING.
Fk you talking bout HE WAS RIGHT..Still to this day, his waistline was FAR Superior to ALL the guys today. You name me one guy I mean one guy who can match his measurements 28in waist..58in chest..23 1/2in arms 20in forearms..32in thighs..21in valves at 5'10in tall..so stop the bs..
@@stawmtroopa1968 Thank you, Fred. We lost Bob Gajda lately. Anyone who follows Sergio, knows Bob Gajda. Both of these Hero's were my friends. Towards the end, a few of our fellow Chicago street cops would go out with Sergio, (as well as his Blessed Mother Medallion as big as a 5lb. plate), to one of his many Asian buffets. I lived a few blocks away in the area. It was affectionately known as Little India. I'd always park behind his white Bentley convertible with S OLIVA on the plate. He lived in the building nearest the corner. I met him through Bob, one night. He was the Guest Poser at the 1975 Mr. Tri-State contest promoted by George Rimas, a former Short Class Mr World winner. Mario Nieves won that contest, at Bogan High school in Chicago. Sergio was out in the lobby when we walked up to him. He was counting out a grand in 100 dollar bills, saying, ("Tonight is my night"), in that signature voice of his. ......He didn't see me, for his arm was in the way. We had many meals over the years. He told me a few things many times over. There was a major reason the Weider's had a problem with him. Perhaps his son did not address that. This was the 60's....."THINGS" were very different in the 60's, for persons of color. If one is old enough, it was quite obvious. Many stories about that, listening to Sergio. However, with the Weider's, it was business as well as the other.........(Don King, has NOTHING, on these guys". They even went out of their way to be "Oh so kind", to Bob Hoffman). I met Sergio jr. one night at a Mr. Chicago Contest at Club Metro in the city. Mary Lina and her husband put it on each year. There was Sergio, holding this child in the crook of his left arm, as if he was no bigger than an Oscar Statue. So, I fist bumped the little one, talked about Duncan Y, and our friend Bob. Sergio, soft spoken, serious when needed, full of Life! He never wanted his son to get into bodybuilding, because towards the end, Sergio's kidneys were failing him. He knew it was from the PED's. However, he always said that they helped him to reach the higher levels of training, and helped bring success to him in all his pursuits, as well. He had no regrets. He mentioned that these guys now days, just keep getting bigger, & bigger..."What is the end game for these guys"? "Do they get so big, they explode"? Yes, Sergio, that's exactly whats happening. Arnold needed a Sergio Oliva. Sergio Oliva just needed his Freedom, & a Gym. He had some miles on him by the time he arrived in Chicago, Bob Gajda mentioned a few times. Lastly, Sergio Oliva was 10 years older than his stated age, his son has shared that over the years. That fact can keep you busy, yes? Thanks for the time here. After we talked with him, during his money counting, we watched the contest, 5th row center. After intermission, the house lights went down. 2001 Space Odyssey starts jumping out at us......and there He was. I've seen them all. I was 10 years old at Lane Tech High School in 1947, when Steve Reeves did his California stroll across the stage. Then, there was this. Just beyond it all for me, I still feel my jaw hanging open. Sure, there was the Victory pose. However, the back with arms straight up crunching the scapulars together, then all of a sudden, .......he flies around and does his Most Muscular with his head shaking..................just breathtaking...............Sergio will always be my Friend.................and He will forever be - "THE MYTH".

Sergio Oliva was called "The Myth" for a reason.
Although I like Sergio Oliva, he was old, set in his ways, and stubborn as a jackass. He was his own worst enemy. And Jr. is right. @DFS57 ok, well its obvious you dont know what better is.
@DFS57 Arnold himself said the myth was the only one that could beat him. Politics was involved.
