Great video! I first heard about Charles about a year ago and instantly fell in love with his story. What a great example for us in a world of distraction and lack of faith.

Thank you for the documentary! But why do people don´t recognise him as a beautiful hermit which he was, too? Hermit lives seem to be useless, always, and you can never know what comes out. It hurts me from time to time to see that his hermit life is hardly recognised: a life of solitude, solidarity, connectedness, and love. It is worthy to recognise his lived out prayerful solitude in service to others, even if he wished to have companions. It is beautiful what has grown out of the seeds of his life: the communities. A great legacy. But his life is more than his legacy. The precious life of a hermit in loving service to others is hardly seen. To honour this could help so many, who live a solitary life by circumstance, to find their vocation within the circumstances by going deeper.

Yes he was a hermit, but it seems that he was also an adventure, and he chose to live out his life WITH the people around him..this is seen today in the lives of those who follow his way to God, the Little Sisters and the Little Brothers of the Poor, and many other groups..I have known about him for 40 yrs and wondered how it was that he was never canonized..SO, I am thrilled to see all these details, and this documentary...Thank you so much++

@@jayctriarii496 es, you are completely right: He was an adventurer, he decided to live amongst the people of the desert, and the communities of Little Sisters and Little Brothers are the most beautiful fruits, the seeds of a single life can bear.
I just meant that it is important not to forget or ignore the solitary aspect to recognise his life in all its complexity. I write this as a Catholic hermit who lives silently amongst the people. I don´ t write this to gain any personal recognition because I chose a very hidden life. I write this for all those who just live solely, lead spiritual rich lives in service, may they live solely by choice or circumstance, who often remain unseen and not feel welcomed. Their lives may also be recognised by the Church in the light of Charle´s legacy. The solitaries by choice and circumstances are both included in this complex life. This might help us to more appreciate single lives in Church, who often are seen as EGO-lives, unsuccessful or missed vocations. All the best, and greetings!!

@@KR-ms6km I absolutely agree with your upholding and honoring all those hermits, unknown to the world, by choice or circumstance that choose to follow lives of prayer, simplicity and service, and yes, mostly unknown and hidden,,Their lives are not easy and much is asked of them...They live in the world but are not of the world in such humility , prayer, and sacrifice...I believe that their contributions should be known, and acknowledged in some quiet way
May God bless you and all you hidden prayer warriors who strengthen and bless our lives, and may St Charles de Foucauld be ever close to your hearts encouraging and blessing you in whatever you undertake....
