Saying generally blizzard makes great stuff is a accurate statement. Just because WoW has been on a decline and some of their other titles that are in their third going into 4th version of that game doesn’t mean blizzard hasn’t generally made great stuff. They didn’t become great by making bad games. They didn’t have the best mmo for the past decade because they made terrible games. Most of their IPs are still the biggest in their genre even if they are on a decline.

Mario essentially had no story - It was all about the tight gameplay, level mechanics and amazing soundtrack which played a bigger role in creating the ambiance/environment than people give credit to or are even aware of. I think modern gaming moving away from those types of soundtracks to more orchestral ones has been one of the points (for me at least, but I haven't gamed much in the past 15+ years) that has resulted in video games losing some of their charm. Yes, at the time, the old original Mario Bros games did have great story telling for a video game. If you are looking at it from today's perspective, that is different, but the tech was not nearly what it is today.
