Dude, the sun is supposed to appear as though it's stationary in the sky. The relativity of movement is supposed to create the illusion that you are moving and the sun is not even though it is. You will also notice that the sun actually sets as you play and it does indeed move across the sky, but seemingly slower from your perspective.
Right. The whole concept behind parallax is that the farther something is, the less it appears to move when you do. So for the sun, which is like infinitely out there-- it should be static.
The problem is that the stars move. If the moon and sun are far away, the stars are more so. Because the developer didn't fully understand the visual effect they were trying to use, they implemented it in a way that doesn't make sense and breaks the logic and hence the effect. Anyone who has actually travelled quickly in an automobile, train, or airplane can instantly feel that the effect is not shown right. The correct implementation is to have all celestial bodies stationary (with respect to the orbital daily time cycle) during horizontal player movement, not have some stationary and some move wildly in synch with the player character. A good idea would be to show that the effect is intentional by introducing one or more intermediate distance layers in the background that move at different rates, ie. clouds, mountains, etc. to create a fuller effect and a stronger illusion of parallax.
@@xandercorp6175 Splat didn't even consider the stars, at least I don't think so, and if that's true then it's hardly a defense for the weird "criticism" he's so fond of, but anyway, what you say is true. @@xandercorp6175 I think you're being a bit too harsh. Keep in mind that the game is Early Access - it could simply be work in progress. Hopefully the stars will be easy enough to fix. It doesn't seem as if it would be difficult, anyway! I really like the effect even with it as it is, because in a lot of games like this, in the rare cases where they actually add the sun instead of using a generic time bar, they usually just have the sun remain in the same spot. 8:54 The Sun is not supposed to parallax-scroll. Objects that are so far away do not appear to move. That's actually expected. Good catch, literally two seconds into the game when the line drops. About the grip on the hammer, isn't it supposed to be firm when swinging but more gentle on impact, to keep the hard impact from transferring back into your wrist? I'm not a blacksmith irl, but that would make sense even to me.
