    Great video as always! This series is the most helpful on the channel imo. Two videos I would like to see in this series are how to use your time (blitz, classical chess and so on) and how to learn an opening (some of that has been covered in the how to create an opening Repertoire video already, but I think there is a lot more to talk about) Keep going my man!

      Hehe thank you! Glad you like the meditations. I will cover time management next Saturday. Regarding opening study, I might make one more using a specific opening as an example. Thanks for the suggestion!

    As usual another great video. I'm a big fan. I haven't listened to Perpetual Chess Podcast (big fan too) but related to it I managed to know that you do all your "chess time" after work. That's just amazing and unfortunately (or fortunately) for me it just throws away all my excuses. Thanks a lot for sharing with us all your hard work!!

      Thank you Adrian. Yeah, Ben is doing an amazing job with the podcast. It's incredible how he managed to cover so much of chess in his episodes. And yeah, there are no excuses if you want to progress:) Work, work...

    Thanks, very interesting. Drawn a horrible game against a low rated player recently, been struggling with errors in the opening so looking at studying my set of openings.

      No problem! I know the feeling:) Definitely try this approach then. It will take time, but you should be able to solidify your repertoire significantly. And good luck! Let me know how this goes for you.

    This video is terrific! While I don't feel I have five hours to analyze a game as you suggest, I devised a condensed version of your methods. For best results, I analyze a recent game that I lost against an opponent rated 100-150 points higher than me , where I felt I could have done better. I look over the game using a PGN reader, following steps 1-3 for key moves. Based on my notes from steps 1-3 I write my essay for future reference. Then on to step 5.

    Your most excellent and generalizable advice that I have seen so far. A brilliant lesson. I look forward to reading your essay on correcting your mistakes. Because I know you will write it down, since you are no fool. 😉

    Excellent. You are my favourite Chess Teacher. Clear, sensible explanations. This was helpful. I don't have the time for that much writing. Perhaps a Notebook with someone's ( a player at my level) 3 or 4 most well known openings and some documentation in a section devoted to each opening with each game using one of these openings. Thank You!!

    • @HangingPawns

      I would recommend reading books and playing practice games. An even easier method are online videos like those of John Bartholomew's, Zibbit's, Kingcrusher's and these. Take a board and analyze along with the videos. Study endgames and tactics. You can find many problems online for free. Lichess has them too, I find it the most convenient.

  • @rikkubest

    Really nice and helpful, was always wanting to know how to go about improving my game. Your video just answered my question.
    (By the way is there any less time consuming way to improve for a casual gamer 😉😉)

    • @HangingPawns
      @HangingPawns  5 років тому +1

      Hmm. Not sure. Casual players shouldn't really be bothered with detailed analysis. Or if you do you are just going to crush everyone you play against and have no one to play with soon:D For a less time consuming method, I would recommend just looking at the game without the engine and trying to draw conclusions about where you went wrong.

    • @davidwestwood6850
      @davidwestwood6850 5 років тому

      If you look for just errors and critical moves, even with an engine, it may take less time. If you write only topic sentences instead of a detailed essay evaluating a game, that may save time also. See Dan Heisman's books, The Improving Chess Annotater and The Improving Chess Thinker.

    • @HangingPawns
      @HangingPawns  5 років тому +2

      It's "Pametan piše, budala pamti." in Croatian. You could translate it as The smart one writes, a fool remembers. I'm not sure the saying exists in English.
