  • Today's farm vlog has me testing a "hack" that was suggested by one of my viewers ....although I have found a dedicate product made for this exact thing...I thought we'd take a set of standard zip ties and see if they would work to get you unstuck from ice and snow in a pinch....check it out...you might be surprised!!

You are right. The tires do need to be facing the right way. Easy fix. Swap the wheels. Left to right and right to left. However. It won't help. The point of the video was to determine if the zip tie trick works. But I have to ask. Why wasn't aggressive knobby tires put on? There would be no need for zip-ties. Any tire you put on it will dry-rot before the tread is worn out. Money was wasted on the tires he had on that light weight, lack of a better term, buggy.

If you twist the ties several times before you buckle them up, you would present more surface to the snow = more traction.

I was gonna tell you those tires are directional tires but by the time I saw this video I figured you’d already found out. lol. Anyway that is a good idea with those zip ties. What would we do without baling wire, duct tape and zip ties. Another good video.

8:11 Exactly, I got in my car in northern Spain a set of Michelin CrossClimate tyres and their pattern is very similar. They are just all weather, not full winter tyres but perform spectaculary well on snow and ice, so I was wondering why yours (although have another brand) are so bad. Of course, they are wrongly installed, you could get a different performance if they were well installed.

if anybody goes the ezpour route try it without the vent first. you may not need it. works fine for the smaller tanks but i don't know how fast it will come out. and thanks for another cool video.

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer i kinda figured that. if i ever have to replace my 2 1/2 gallon can i doubt i can get away with it. you may be too young to remember the old soda and beer cans before the pull tops came out when you poked the hole with the can opener than poked the little vent hole on the other side. lol

Got stuck in a snow covered field could go backward but not forward.
Thankfully there were slots in my wheels & some room.
So I took an old water hose cut it up and tied several pieces to each rear tire.
Drove right out & after a few miles on the asphalt they self removed themselves.

All that work. Living in the NY I find it easier just to take a small stick or twig or a bunch of them against the front of the tire. Pine branches work good too. Best thing about using twigs and sticks is they are everywhere.

I study a lot of history... mostly wwii history. A lot of the time, if a jeep or troop truck got stuck in snow or mud, soldiers would take some branches and put them against the tires for traction. Please note however, this was when they didn’t have someone to tow them out. And it didn’t always work. If the mud or snow was too deep, then this technique didn’t work.

Pretty impressive for using just 1 knuckle of the zip tie @long the center of tires, but if you tie wrapped 2 knuckles @long the width of the tires @ the same interval around the tire should theoretically increase your push-per-area

  • @andersonwade9963

I know this would not help in the snow but your rear tire is on the wrong sides you need to switch them so the tire grip pattern would be facing forward. Thanks for the tip with the zip ties

Ill point out that due to an open differential the tire with the least amount of traction will always spin. The open differential allows the tires to move at different speeds. Like when you make a turn the outside wheel travels further or has to rotate more.
