I used to fear this ride growing up, then the one time my dad made me do Le Goliath, suddently Le Monstre looked nice next to that, so I went to do it, and it was fun. Did both tracks. I love doing it whenever I go there. One of the best rides, it's iconic.
Grew up getting thrashed around on this thing. It used to be a lot worse; considering how massive the structure is combined with its age, I think they've done a pretty good job on it in the past few years. I'll always love this thing. Still wouldn't be opposed to an RMC treatment... not that that seems terribly likely under six flags ownership.
It’s not the roughness from what I understand, it’s the boringness of the layout and the fact that some kiddie coasters have more elements than this ride
@@marcleslac2413 ah ok interesting. So it's less a license for RMC to operate in Canada thing and more just because (I imagine) the whole island is technically under parks canada administration... even though the park itself is leased by the city. What a convoluted situation. Very on brand for Montreal lol!
Wow, I haven't been on this ride in ages, I haven't even been to La Ronde that many times, but I guess I rode it a lot when I was there because watching this brought me right back xD
Easy. We love our old jank rides. This is the only big theme park in the entire province of Québec and Le monstre is our only wooden coaster + a piece of our History with a potential for 8 million votes. It ain't better than El Toro, it ain't better than X2, it's not the tallest wooden coaster (it's the tallest dual-track wooden coaster though), not the fastest, not the best airtime and it was built using very limited space, which is why the tracks pass through the structure so many times. It used to run 2 trains simultaneously on each track and just that alone with the old trains made for a very different experience than today. Trains were lighter and didn't cause an earthquake from putting so much stress on the structure + the restraint was only a single metal bar. It didn't squeeze your nuts for being so tight. And finally, La Ronde is not a Six Fucks park. It was bought out by them then left to rot. The only decent ridesWe don't care about the rides at six flags parks in the states and we overall don't give a shit about six flags themselves. Maybe El Toro is better but do we care? Nope. Someone made that contest known to more than just coaster enthusiasts and this is the result.
This is my favourite coasters from LA Ronde, used to be so scared to go on it as a kid but soon as you go 1 time, you can't stop!!!!! Unless the lines are full af lol
Anybody who gets on an old wooden coaster and expects the ride to be smooth lives in a fantasy world. These were never smooth unless they’ve been modified. Just enjoy the ride on a vintage old school coaster.
The Texas Giant was fairly smooth for its first several seasons. Even after it got rough it was a great ride. The RMC treatment helped the roughness but kind of dampened the thrill.
no c'mon its probably the best at Laronde. they've improved it a lot in the past years with new trains and all. Honestly, one of the best of this park.
Even with the hate from others toward it and even if its not really a good layout, I still like how much you enter the structure and have those wooden bars pass really close to you, really give you that old wooden scary feeling, near nightime is quite something
That ride used to be good until they changed the trains 10 years ago. The layout isn't the best but at least it was smooth and enjoyable, now it does nothing other than beating you up. Hopefully they RMC it one day.

Back then, the ride was smoother and people enjoyed it at the end of the the ride. Now, the ride is irritating and aggressive. Le Monstre have no choice to be upgraded to a RMC or La Ronde should bring back the older version of the train that was better
I mean I have fun on it, but it is one of the roughest coasters I've ever been on and the layout is mostly (outside of one airtime moment on each side) pretty boring and uninspired. The train just meanders through the second half
This ride is as close as anything comes to forgettable, RMC could turn this into its shining star given the unique layout and track length but LaRonde is the worst park ever so there’s that problem
"It's smooth so far" Famous last words
I'm a Montréalais born and raised. That wooden coaster is a big chunk of my childhood. There's just something about wood that screams personality.

Ew, that first drop looks shallower than most chain lifts. Also looks like a boxing simulator.
I did this and it’s not as bad as it looks, it’s actually pretty fun.
Would a few clips from this POV be permissible to use in a new documentary about the ride? Thanks!
Unpopular opinion, I miss the the Morgan trains. Like was the ride always this bad, or was it better with the Morgan trains(as in smoothness)?
