- The elders of Kenwood Baptist in Louisville recently publicized three classes taught at their church by Jim Hamilton and Denny Burk, the point of which was to warn their members against certain errors that they saw emanating from our Moscow project here.
The first two classes were taught by Jim Hamilton and addressed postmillennialism and theocracy respectively. These should be located in the doctrinal disagreement category. The third class was taught by Denny Burk, and addressed my use of the “satiric bite” (and the use of certain words), alongside my repeated defenses of such usage.
The first class was ably answered by Jared Longshore, a response you can find here. It is my intention to respond to Denny Burk’s critique here in this space, which you can start reading if you just give me a minute. The one on theocracy might have to wait a little while . . . this is because while we were all in the middle of a hot debate over Christian nationalism, the baptistic anti-CN critics went and established a Christian prince as Speaker of the House of Representatives, which I call a dirty move. We trust that you will be willing to give us a moment to collect our thoughts. We might need to regroup on that point.

Pastor Wilson, I'm a Greek Orthodox Christian and I know you probably have not much use or appreciation for our Christian tradition. I can accept that. While we may differ on some big topics, I do appreciate your humor and style of debate and find you engaging. Keep it up. 1/2? No, easily 3/4? 🙂
I think he takes his appointment as a shepherd for all our Lord's sheep seriously. We all should care for each other. There is clearly beauty in the Orthodox church that we all can learn from.
@@junkerjorg6310 I agree he takes his position seriously and that must be respected. What I particularly appreciate is that Pastor Wilson is able to express himself well and, after watching several of his videos, he does appear to be humble; both of these qualities can be hard to find at times in our modern world. May it be blessed.
As long as we all follow Christ and acknowledge our shared bond, you’ll see these disagreements as trivial in the grand picture

I love Denny Burke. I love Jim Hamilton. I also love Doug Wilson. I may agree doctrinally most closely with the former but yet, strangely, I more appreciate the latter. We need to learn better how to disagree on secondary issues without throwing out the proverbial baby.

I pray for a CREC church to be established closer than two hours from our town. Sadly, the pastors around here are all Denny Burks.

I pray the same for you. The movement of actual true victorious Christianity returning is growing fast. A big part of that is the CREC but it isn't the only part. Do all you can to help however you can until the time when there is a CREC like church in every town and members of that church in every legislature making and enforcing laws that please God.

We’ve been in the CREC since 1999 - first in Phoenix (now defunct, sadly), then Spokane (2008). Last year, the Lord brought us to Bowling Green KY, which move we only countenanced b/c there’s a new (2 yrs old) CREC in Goodlettsville TN. (A “mere” 55-70 mins away!)
First thing I told my new pastor when we first met him in Apr 22 was: “Well, you know … we’re gonna need to plant a church in Bowling Green! Just sayin’ … “
Been kind of a challenge building relationships with a family of saints 60 miles away, but it’s been worth it.
BUUUT we’re still praying for that BG KY church plant!

I've read the Old Testament in Hebrew. The writers (who I might add were inspired by G-d), used some extremely strong (some might say coarse) language. They wanted to emphasize the results of not obeying G-d.
That is precisely why I love the KJV translation, though in some places it occludes since things with poor translation (such as how Song of Songs 8:3 and other verses should be graphically sexually and no English translation makes it so) in many prices it uses language more harsh and graphic than any other translation.
Sincere Q: Why do you write “G-d” instead of “God”?

The problem is that they don't like anyone challenging their status quo. Many pastors know more about football than they do scripture. I can't tell you how much corruption I have noticed over the years in churches.

By all means keep listening...
He is peripherally (or not so peripherally, depending on who you talk to) part of the Federal Vision movement which many (including, to some extent, myself) allege to be either heretical or moving swiftly in that direction. I haven't found reason to believe him heretical here, though I would quibble with some of what I've seen; however, my research on his position specifically has been fairly cursory.
There have also been a few scandals revolving around his church discipline/ actions and the school he's involved in running. While some of these seem pretty bad, I've never seen enough evidence to say that Wilson was to blame (possibly he made mistakes, but every man does).
He holds also to a number of... unpopular positions: theonomy/ Christian Nationalism (of his own stripe), postmillennialism, Calvinism, church discipline, stringent cultural action.

There's a big difference between "primary motivation" and a sole determining factor. If that's not his primary motivation, why is it the only answer? If there are other reasons, and you chose not to mention them, isn't that presenting a false witness?

Another Analogy for Pastor Burks to consider that I believe is more accurate:
An older brother has come into the house to inform his parents that he has been sexually active with his witchcraft practicing girlfriend and he intends to move in with her and join the church of satan.
The younger brother hears this and exclaims, “You need to f@cking stop before you ruin your life.”
Then at that moment parents forget all about the older brother and spend the next several weeks angry and fixated on the fact that their younger son cussed.
This is more to what Pastor Wilson’s situation evoked in my opinion.

You can’t call something silly and offer no reason as to why it is silly. That is cheap internet banter and is of almost no value for anyone involved.
But to answer your question, the reason I didn’t use the word, like you so happily did, would be largely laid out by pastor Wilson. There is no need for me to use crude language in a generic analogy that is not aimed at getting someone’s attention who is in dire need of it. The analogy was meant to critique Pastor Burks, given I believe his analogy largely missed the facets of the actual scenario in which Pastor Wilson had used the crude language. It wasn’t Pastor Wilson sinning in a big and small way.
It was pastor Wilson trying to correct a major concern and using a crude word to get attention. And then subsequently becoming the chief talking point after. In that aspect, my analogy is the opposite of silly and actually quite helpful to those who are not here simply to argue on the internet.

Good for Denny Burks and I'm thankful for men like him that will defend good speech and condemn this pathetic ungodliness. Doug, you get so much right but this use of foul language hinders. This is a blind spot in your ministry and a failure to recognize what's happening around you in this one, of two, idolatrous areas. I'm sorry for you.
