Conforming to Real ID Raises Questions

- In 2005, Congress enacted the Real ID Act, which requires states to comply with federal standards when issuing sources of identifications, such as drivers licenses. In Minnesota, standard drivers licenses do not meet the federal standards, but enhanced identification cards that do comply can be purchased for an additional fee.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has indicated that in the future, possibly as soon as 2018, all citizens will need a federally-approved identification card to board a plane. Minnesota drivers licenses, as currently issued, do not meet that standard.
A special legislative task force has been created to examine the Minnesota's adoption of the Real ID, and during the January 14 meeting, legislators raised some key issues.
“Show me your papers!”
The answer to that question is a resounding HELL NO. Some might but most won't and then we wait for the other shoe to drop.

Richard D Gregg same. This is bad. But hopefully enough Americans will say enough is enough. I’m really not comfortable with this and i know other folks who aren’t either. Looks like it’s road trips for me too!
I'm 61 years old. I've been working since I was 14 years old. Been paying taxes for all these years. Now, they want me to get a little gold star on my license to prove I'm in compliance ? I'm good enough to pay taxes ( which a good deal of are being sent out of this country ) but I'm not good enough to get on a plane or enter a federal building ? My tax dollars helped bail out the airlines when they were struggling and helped build these federal buildings. If I can't access these things, then why should I have to pay for them ?
This is what is known as the 'Dictator Clause' If states agree to comply with the federal REAL ID Act, the are agreeing to allow one unelected federal bureaucrat to add purposes that requires a person to show a biometric REAL ID.

Nobody should get the real id
Unfortunately I think most people already have it. Only three states left to comply by October 2020 or we lose rights to domestic travel. They are demons. I personally have been considering not getting it.
If you have a license up for renewal, will showing the old one be enough to get it renewed or will you need need a whole shit load of proof you are you???
It’s a constitutional right lot that every citizen has a right to drive. The only citizens that are lawfully legally must have a license if they drive commercially does anyone know the constitutional laws? Just called right to drive. We do not need a drivers license by Law!!
I think they have been getting away for years saying that driving is a privilege. That probably won't work.
