I have worn out every physical copy of it I have ever owned (Vinyl, Casssette, and CD) only my digital copies have lasted. Amazing album. not a bad track on either of the first two albums.
Props for being the only reactor to have done one of my faves from the 80's! You had me worried going on about the synths that you weren't going to touch on the incredible guitar lol.
The guitarist i think was in his 60s or 70s i don't remember his first name but i remember his last name was howe i saw him live and he looked like he was in his 80s still kicking ass!!!!
Asia had John Wetton lead singer from King Crimson and Uriah Heep, Carl Palmer Drummer from Emerson Lake and Palmer, Steve Howe the Guitarist from Yes and Geoff Downes from Yes and The Buggles. I saw these guys at SPAC in upper state New York back in the early 80's, they came on stage dressed all in white and they put on a clinic. What a show, RIP John Wetton.
Steve Howe and Geoff Downes of Yes, Carl Palmer of Emerson, Lake & Palmer, and John Wetton of King Crimson and UK. These guys were prog royalty. ASIA had it all. The first two albums were pretty much untouchable for solid 80's Rock and all their album covers were done by Roger Dean, the same artist that did all the Yes covers.
It's a joy to see your joy, John! In the 80s, Asia had its naysayers, casting it as a cynical ploy for money by musicians who could have done better "art," but it was such fun regardless. So delighted to see that joy traverse forty years to you!
This album was #1 for 15 weeks in 1982, as well as the album of the year on the Billboard charts. Every song is a banger!! But like the band Boston, their first albums were the genie in the bottle. They could never attain the same level of greatness unfortunately.
Their first three albums "Asia", "Alpha", and "Astra" are 80's classic's each one better than the last. Though I have to say they albums they made after they got back together in 2008 are just as good. I listen to those albums more than I do the old one's. "Tomorrow the World" off of the album "XXX" is currently my absolute favorite song.
Back in the 80's I had heard part of this song (at around 4:40) for several years but had no idea who the artist was. Channel 7 here in Sydney Australia used a bit of this song in some of their sports programs (another song used was Billy Joel's Prelude/Angry Young Man, and they also used Emerson, Lake & Palmer's Fanfare For The Common Man on their Olympic Games telecasts). Several years later the artwork (by Roger Dean) on Asia's Alpha album got my attention & the music blew me away. I then bought their self titled debut album (also great artwork), I listened to it the first time & partway through the third track I realised that I had heard a certain bit previously. It was the section that Channel 7 had used years before. From the first time I heard Asia I was hooked. Only regret is that I never got to see them live.
Honestly, even though this band is an example of Diminished Returns, (see: Boston & Pearl Jam) each & every single song off the first album is stellar. Every song after their debut just does not meet the level of professionalism in the first album. Hint: bridge of last track. Put it on repeat & enjoy
I was 10 when this came out and listened to it because of my older brother. To me this is the definition of 80s rock (it's not progressive). The first album is the most raw and my favourite by Asia
Got this album when it came out. I was a high school senior and loved this record. Unfortunately, this was it. Everything that came after was not nearly as good
I actually really like how Greg filled in for the mtv show. Had very little rehearsal time, but if you are going to replace the voice of Wetton, it might as well be Mr Lake. Perfect solution. Wish they did some studio work with Greg, but its hard to beat the late, great Mr Wetton.
ASIA ASIA and ALPHA are both worth a listen. ASIA knocked Thriller out of the # 1 spot on the charts in 1982
Great album! You need to listen to every track on it, there is a very good reason this one ranked as #1 album of the year in 1982!!!
Such a great song-- this whole album is stunning from start to finish.
I’ve listened to this album so many times over the years it’s ridiculous.
I have worn out every physical copy of it I have ever owned (Vinyl, Casssette, and CD) only my digital copies have lasted. Amazing album. not a bad track on either of the first two albums.

If you like this you have to hear heat of the moment
I'm savoring some amazing coffee and it is great to hear this music with someone who can appreciate the details in it.
Same guitarist you enjoyed on Machine Messiah from Yes, Steve Howe.
Same keyboardist also!
One of the best from 1982 ... A classic!
The guitarist i think was in his 60s or 70s i don't remember his first name but i remember his last name was howe i saw him live and he looked like he was in his 80s still kicking ass!!!!
P.s. love your reactions!!!
Steve. He was 35 when this album was released in 1982
Steve Howe absolute legend, he played with Yes too
The late great John Wetton on vocals, RIP 😢😢
That's Steve Howe of Yes on Guitar!

John Wetton sang for Uriah Heep??
@@dalemerrifield8308 Yes he really was with Uriah Heep for a short stint between 1975 - 1976.
I haven’t heard this one in some time. Asia has some of the cleanest vocals from the 80’s.
John Wetton.

Geoff Downes came from The Buggles. The artwork by Roger Dean is responsible for me getting interested in Asia.
@@781David I know Geoff Downes was originally in The Buggles, but by the time they formed ASIA, he came from YES.

Version with Greg Lake on vocals is really fire

Also not of my favourite Asia songs. So weird you get to listen to this one.
