Catalan - my goodness, I had to look that one up. I enjoyed the descriptive segments that you chose to read and the subject matter may be striking a very personal emotional nerve - ok, you convinced me - I shall look out for Eva Baltasar on my next visit to my local bookstore.
I hope to get to this soon! Like you I loved Boulder, though I didn’t like Permafrost quite so much - so from what you say I think Boulder is going to be the best one. Last summer I saw all three were now in a single volume in Catalan.
@@scallydandlingaboutthebooksI should have watched the review because....animals. 😕 I am a big fan of Boulder but this one was a struggle in the second half. I do agree that "muscular" and "visceral" are good descriptions of her style.
I'm looking forward to reading all three, between your enjoyment of Baltasar's style and comments JoSmith made last month, I know I'll enjoy them. Thanks for the trigger warning.
Muscular is a very good description of her writing, particularly in Mammoth. Great review.
@@BookishTexan she is so distinctive but it is hard to convey that in a review.
Her writing sounds so beautiful.
@@spreadbookjoy she's the sort of writer one can get obsessed by I think. Odd but satisfying.

I still need to get to Eva Baltasar. I will start with Boulder.

@@ianp9086 it's probably good you have managed my expectations now for Permafrost.
@@scallydandlingaboutthebooks sorry 😢
I'm right in the middle of Mammoth so I'm going to come back after I finish!
@@readandre-read ooh I look forward to your verdict.
