Great video, man!! When I was a teenager I had a map of Africa with all the African flags, and I noticed the colors of the Pan-African Movement on many of them....
Being Ugandan, I had never thought of the Ugandan flag as particularly interesting until today when I found out that it's quite unique! But you won't find the flag hanging out on people's houses like folks do in the USA because here we are not proud of the country, you will most definitely find them at schools and government institutions

@@erynn9968 The whole clip of searching for a flag is actually quite amusing. I never knew that there is a place where finding a flag is so difficult. In most African countries, flags are found on government buildings as you have mentioned. In my country Zambia 🇿🇲 you will find them at schools, hospitals, and any government building. In the US flags are all over the place, even on houses.
Ethiopia was the only African country represented the nation with its flag and they been helping freedom fighters around Africa, for example Zimbabwean added the Ethiopian flag on their flag after mengistu helping arming Zimbabwe freedom fighters

The CIA pushed Ethiopia to invade and aid the pro western govt which led to a civil war which led to the so called “failed state” you said. As a Ghanaian-Canadian I’m proud of our first president being an advocate of Black unity and pan-Africanism and respecting the influence that Marcus Garvey & Ethiopia 🇪🇹 played. . It baffles me now when young Ghanaians in their attempt to sound unique say “I’m not black I’m African” , despite the founders of our nation admittedly embracing both identities.
we truly are not 'black'. that is a racial slur and terrible misconnotation. We are not identified by a pigmentation. It is also a fulsome LIE to describe anyone as a ghost! you call some people 'white'. This is quite clearly false and a terrible falsehood but we just blithely accept the lie because IT HAS BEEN SAID OFTEN ENOUGH! Be real. We are not a colour and should never be identified with a colour. We may be darker skinned but that is simply because of melanin in our system which the others lack. It gives us so many superior advantages and is so envied the rest have spent ages looking for ways to pull those with melanin down with classifications and other such foolishness. it makes more sense to identify and be pan-African than to be described futilely with some colour. there's no need to lie is there?

I wasn't particularly a very bright kid but every time I went to the beach I'd tell people that if they swam all he way up across the ocean they'd reach Namibia. Then I came to learn all the other countries and flags with those World Cup sticker albums and stuff like that.
Most African countries are “independent” in theory. All former French colonies’s currency is issue by France for example. Countries don’t get to exercise much sovereignty when their currency is control by another country.

The stripes and colors as you know are the influence that Ethiopia had on the independence movement of the former colonies, Ethiopia is the oldest country in the world and the only one on the African continent that was not colonized, they put the Italians to run with bees and wasps and lions trained to attack whites, politicians and the African people were very proud of Ethiopia at the time, that's why they inspired their flag in Ethiopia.

Colours existed before Haile Selassie. It's from Ghana and not from Ethiopia. Fact. You 🤡 can look at the flag of Bolivia and believe it's from Ethiopia if you want
Yes in Angola the red is the spilled blood the yellow represents the resources we have, and the black its for the people we lost in the war against the oppressor.
Hello my friend, I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for making these videos on lesser-known history. Like you, I think it's crucial that moments such as colonialism and the Bosnia/ Serbia genocide are properly taught in public schools (United States). I really hope your channel continues to grow so you can reap the rewards you deserve.
I would also like to know why the majority of European (and former colonies' by extension) flags feature red white and blue. Was it just some sort of fashion or what?
slavics for Russia and Panslavism. dates back to 1698 Many others by the french revolution. white for the kingdom of france, blue is the color of the Bourbon House, and red for the revolutionaries. Red and White are often related with St. George cross, like England and Denmark. Scandinavians just followed the danish trend.
The reason why you couldn’t find the flag was because you were searching in the wrong places you should have tried schools though at the End you were at a place with one (Kampala Serena Hotel) and also opposite Serena, it’s the Parliament. There you would definitely find one too. We don’t just put it everywhere.
But that's the thing. In most countries, you would find a flag in some open, public space or at least on some shop rather than inside a school or government office. Plus, he can't film in those places you mentioned.
@@lunayen But if you are literally starving/living hand to mouth, would hanging a flag be top priority? In fact why would you hang the flag of a govt that doesn't benefit you?
Marcus Garvey flag was inspired from the original Haitian flag as first black free nation which is red and black. Marcus Garvey add the green to express the land of africa vis- a vis to nature. For the Haitian heros red represented the blood of our ancestors and black represented the black people from africa.
Ghana 🇬🇭 was the first sub saharan country to gain her independence, in describing the meaning of the colours ( red for blood 🩸 of their forefathers who fought for their independence, yellow for mineral resources, Green for the rich vegetation , Black representing the people and the star meaning Ghana 🇬🇭 is the gateway to Africa. The 'Black Star' means black excellence. This name was passed on to Ghana's national team the 'Black Stars' and even Ghana's shipping line 'The Black Star Line'. Nkrumah put in a lot of resources to ensure anyone representing Ghana shined like a star. The fact is it was Nkrumah of Ghana who actually put Pan-Africanism into practice. When Ghana gained independence, he said: 'The independence of Ghana is meaningless until it is linked with the total liberation of Africa'. Unsurprisingly, he is the only African head of state to have his statute blazon the head quarters of the OAU.

Hanging a flag outside one’s house is not the only way people express pride for their country . It’s just not a Ugandan thing to have flags hanging on our verandas. PS. I am Ugandan and extremely proud to be one. 🇺🇬❤

The quickest way to have found the Ugandan flag was to stop a biker or boda boda rider and ask them where you could purchase a flag, ask a local rather than drive around (unless you were doing that for dramatic effect for the videos entertainment benefit)
Overall, it was an informative video.
Well Said Comrade. these guys were just being dramatic. I don't see them conduct extensive research.
I wonder why they didn't just google that flag? the whole story of searching was boring rather than entertaining.
@@erynn9968 The whole clip of searching for a flag is actually quite amusing. I never knew that there is a place where finding a flag is so difficult. They have to make their point that a flag can't be seen anywhere so they have to drive around and show that viewers that there are indeed no flags anywhere.
They are Westerners being themselves. Thinking they are superior and that in their own countries the flags would be hanging over every window or balcony which is not true.
Ugandan here. So we were taught in school that the colours stand for: Black(our colour as Africans), Yellow(the abundant sunshine- fact coming from Uganda straddling the equator) Red(blood/brotherhood). Second those weren't/aren't the colours of the UPC.
Third, you'll find flags mostly outside government buildings/offices and police stations.
What about thé Big sized ladies of Uganda ????
In most African countries, flags are found on government buildings as you have mentioned. In my country Zambia 🇿🇲 you will find them at schools, hospitals, and any government building. In the US flags are all over the place, even on houses.

Good topic to cover but isn't the title a little misleading. East African flags are pretty distinct from each other and the same goes for most of southern Africa. Southern African flags are also distinct
also East. islands---Mauritius. Seychelles, Comoros, Madagascar.
I agree, most of the flags that look the same are West African countries. And that's why some people in the comments say Ghana was more of an influence. But majority of countries in Africa (east, north, south ) and a few west African flags like Gambia and Sierra Leone are different l.

@JustinYiseverywhere It still was a corrupt move IMO, the majority of people living there are Somali and it should be apart of Somalia based on the demographics it wasn’t somalias fault the Italians decided to attack British possessions so I don’t really understand why the British decided to punish them for it.
@JustinYiseverywhere Somaliland is a puppet regime and I also used to think Al shabaab were evil but I realized that was just western propaganda. The Islamic court union was a stable govt but it was formed during the Bush regime in which he was shamefully acting Islamic countries because he believed it was his duty to evangelical Christianity. The CIA pushed Ethiopia to invade and aid the pro western govt which led to a civil war which led to the so called “failed state” you said. If Al shabaab defeats the pro western govt and gains control why shouldn’t the country get the Ogaden back? It seems to me that it should be reunited with the rest of its ethnic group

Most African countries are “independent” in theory. All former French colonies’s currency is issue by France for example. Countries don’t get to exercise much sovereignty when their currency is control by another country.
Because we are one people divided by foreigners.

African countries that look similar to Ethiopian flag were inspired from Ethiopia for being the only African country to fight against colonization.
