I just saw this tonight, purely by chance. First time I’ve heard my Daddy’s voice since he passed away 5/13/2010. The auctioneer, Ed Brown, in the video was my Father. To whomever is responsible for posting/sharing this… my Gratitude is Hall of Fame level. TYSM!!! I am a veteran Nashville based musician/singer-songwriter/artist… although I’ve seen and done so many things… nothing compares to hearing Daddy’s Voice again. And seeing him in his prime doing what he loved. God BLESS and THANK YOU!!!
My grandparents use to grow and sell it. When they stopped, they would go and buy so he could have his own chewing tobacco and they both cigarettes. They often took my brother and I with him. We hated getting up early on our days off from school. And we didn't really want to be there. Thought it stunk. But 30+ years later, I can still smell it, just from memory. And I love it. I love and greatly miss the little time I had with him and even less with grandma. I have very few memories of them, and every other year, those memories shorten. But the smell of a tobacco auction, or farm, always brings them pouring back in. It's amazing how simple smells we use to hate, become the sweetest smells in the world.
How your post only had 2 likes before I added mine, I'll never know. I have very few memories of being around tobacco, but the ones I have I am fond of. My favorite time was stripping it while listening to a basketball game in the side room of a barn (Kentucky). I'd love to have a farm, at my age of 50 that's not happening.
I grew up living next to the owner of the basnight warehouses. Harold Veazey. Kindest man I've ever met. Spent many days with him just hanging out. It broke his heart the day we moved out.
