While I’m not at all a fan of gacha games and how it holds back gameplay elements, I can’t fault their visual presentation and animation quality. Have learnt a lot from it.

Physics and Gravity are very realistic
I feel like this is a class on how to do good animations. I actually learned a lot from this.
Impact frames are definitely 2D drawn over since they don't perfectly line up with the previous 3D frame. Also pretty sure the initial Ultimate animation isn't live rendered but a video, because you don't see the surrounding area in the background.
As a character animator, it’s 3 major things:
1) the rig is INTENSE. Lots of bones. Allows for smears in the right spots
2) it’s likely they did this in UE5 because of their physics system. It’s only been out about a year and it appears they’ve mastered it already.
3) the chick who does the mocap work… the animators do SO MUCH on top of it.

If mihoyo ever releases a movie or a standard priced standalone videogame, they will be elevated to Ghibli/Pre-activision level of respect in the industry.
Its a shame that due to them only releasing gachas a lot of people dont even look at the insane ammount of artistry and effort they put into their games.

Based on our knowledge and recognition at Overwatch's animation technique(s), it's also has more animation bones (mostly between 2 major animation joint) for smearing and stretching of 12-principle animation (like how animations of cartoons like Tom and Jerry used to)

They have a long history in this space since 2011.. great work in this release.

The animation style of this game mostly adheres to The 12 Principles of Animation, but it is also influenced by Japanese anime, featuring a Japanese animation technique style called the Kanada style. The Kanada style sometimes deliberately violates the rules of Slow in and slow out and Follow through and overlapping action, two of The 12 Principles of Animation, achieve a crisp, dotted, discrete, and funky visual experience. I believe this is why it looks so different. There is a Japanese animation company Trigger that also likes to do this.

Played the beta and the game is special.... you really have to like that kind of game.
Fighting feels fluent and some of the tv parts can be quite difficult. But its not free roaming. You always fight in little "zones" like dmc for example
This is why I love hoyoverse games they put so much care time and effort into them

I might be in the minority here, but I feel like this is the first time a game has too much secondary animation and it's a little too busy, though it might only be in the trailers. Maybe I'm getting old, but I feel like we've gotten to the point where animation is trying to replicate people who record their tik toks in slow mo , hit a pose on every second word in the sentence, and then speed them up. Which is interesting, because those tik toks were supposed to feel like animation. It's almost as if animation is pulling influence from the thing that was influenced by animation.
I think you should probably stop watching tik tok. I don’t think those ppl r trying to make tik toks look like animation at all. That doesn’t make sense, it’s a recorded video. If what you’re saying is that the animation is meant to have a lot of movement in a short period of time, like a tik tok, then I think you’re watched too much tik tok and not enough animation.
Also, the busy movements r intentional. The game is meant to feel chaotic, hence the animation reflects that chaotic and fast energy.
