  • Air purification is an important part of the wellness of any indoor space - from homes to hospitals to schools and daycare centers indoor air quality is a really important part of our lives today.
But what you might not know is that not all air purifiers are created equally. It's possible that the air purifier that you're considering right now isn't what you think it is and we're going to get to the bottom of it.
Today we're going to test of the most prominent brands of air purifiers through a single pass filtration test.
    Unit Testing Order:
    Mila
    Tru Sens
    Dyson
    Intellipure Compact
    Molekule

You can't take measurements at the vent. The particle counters use the air velocity to calculate the number of particles so having moving air disrupts the measurement. Measurements can only be taken at a distance where the air is completely still.

The Mila also had different filters, you should test it on the “overreactor” filter cartridge.

I applaud the energy and interest. Unfortunately, the test method is flawed, not taking into account the OPC (optical particle counter) entrance velocity and its effect on particle size detection. See ASHRAE and others for guidance. Also, the challenge is room air, which, even he appears to be in a large room, as the test continues, the air in that vicinity is being cleaned by the continuous operation of filtration devices being tested. You need a consistent particle challenge with known particle density to compare units. Written enough, and I could go on, but you get the idea. Best to you.

This is indeed helpful. People need to arm themselves with RELEVANT information to avoid paying for over-marketed overpriced underperforming products.

It’s not helpful at all. They tested the Dyson completely incorrectly. He didn’t even test the exhaust lol

I've used different air particle sensors but they tend to be inaccurate.☹
The EPA uses $20,000 and more expensive air quality sensors to give us the AQI (Air Quality Index) readings and they say $5,000 sensors and less expensive tend to be inaccurate and even more so over time. For these reasons and more - I believe we need to just leave the air purifier testing to the experts (ie. labs with experienced testers, the most updated equipment, and testing rooms). 👍

I would like accurate information comparing intellipure and airpura. Withe are North American made and use UV. can you directly compare the two?

The Mia has five different filter options. Should mention which option the test unit is.

This is a good point, but the filter design of that unit is why it is less effective. It’s split flow instead of layered, basically half goes through the carbon and half goes through the HEPA.

Molekule and Mila, I don’t think are very good products. Mila really hurt themselves with their filter design, it’s a split flow system and unless the room is way under the recommended size it will never be as effective as a standard layered filter.

Could you elaborate more regarding Mila's design?

@@danwin5759 Sure, the Mela filter is a square shape out of the six possible sides five are open, four of those sides are HEPA filter and the bottom is carbon filter so the air that passes through the filter is not simultaneously exposed to both HEPA and carbon it happens independently one at a time, meaning it takes a lot longer to get the air through both carbon and HEPA

@@barrettmorrison8533 So it could it have been better initially, but not with the current design. Do you have recommendations for a similar air purifier product that has smart-capability?

    • @barrettmorrison8533
      @barrettmorrison8533 2 роки тому

@@danwin5759 I think it will filter the air just fine in a sealed room, but it’s impossible in everyday life to maintain that seal. The smart air purifiers are a slippery slope in my opinion. My main concern is that a good quality air sensor alone can run over 200$, it’s hard to imagine a 400$ purifier actually has a good sensor. That being said I have a lot of interest in the new Rabbitair product.

This is FALSE advertisement regarding my experience with the Intellipure unit.
Intellipure unit is made to introduce a lot of particles into the air!
I have received Intellipure unit 7 days after the purchase was made, unpacked it and unpacked front filter. (you have 10 days after the purchase is made to get 90% refund and much less after those 10 days...)
I also unscrewed top filter to make sure it is also unpacked and screwed it back. Intellipure was new but made 2 years ago (you can find that info at the back of the unit).
All placed in place as per instructions. I was running it for 2 days on speeds 2 and 3.
I have purchased Mila air purifier and Blue air 121 purifiers at the same day. and I have new Tamtop M2000-2nd Gen air quality monitor.
We use other air purifiers and my base home air quality is around pm2.5 - 0.4-1, pm10 - 0.5-1.5, particles -10-150 per/l.
    At the exhaust of this purifier those results are pm2.5 - 10-40, pm10 - 10-45, particles -1400-6000 per/l depending on a speed.
What particles are this Intellipure unit introducing to the air? The particle count was almost 80000 per/l when I turned it on for the first time!
Mila and Blue air 121 perform very well and reduce count of particles to almost zero!
Smell and air coming out of this unit was irritating for the nose.
What is the plastic that this Intellipure unit is made from - plastic smell is not acceptable for the quality unit and my wife asked to move it to the trash bin because of that terrible smell.
What did they put in this Intellipure unit that the air from it is so .... unhealthy regarding the air monitor?
Why is this unit is not cleaning the air, but introducing particles to the air?

can it be that the new particles were the fiberglass particles from the shitty HEPA filter?
