- It's a paradox. It goes against what our logical mind expects. The funny thing is, even when we understand the mathematics, it's still hard to believe.
Also, The 'Ben Franklin Effect' - Do people REALLY like you more AFTER they have done a favour for you?

Thank you SOOOO much to all followers of 'Very Nearly Interesting' who kindly responded to the birthday survey used in this video. - Розваги
My dads cousin and her husband had the same birthday. They decided to get married on their birthday. The crazy thing is that they ended up having a son who was born on their birthday. Their son was not planned and his birth was natural (not induced and not by c-section).
Oh wow 😮!!!
This might be 'very nearly interesting' to you - in my family of six children, three of the children were born on the same date with exactly 12 months between them. We were accepted into the Guinness Book of Records, but my brother didn't want to make a fuss which is a pity, because we're getting older and soon they'll be no evidence we ever existed!
Wow! That's most DEFINITELY very nearly interesting, Teresa.. 👍
Oh wow that’s amazing Teresa! Thank you so much for sharing, Tez 😊
My aunt and my dad were born on the same day a year apart
I'll bet the birthday parties in that house were fun on that particular day! 😄
Prove it.😎
*50%!* In a room of just 23...? I definitely need some convincing, Tez! 😂
Watching more and I am definitely even more baffled! Maths was never my best subject.. 😂 Amazing stuff! Love it!
My Wife and I share the same Birthday a year apart...imagine if I forgot it...I'd be in the Doghouse Tez 😂
Wow Steve, never an excuse to forget her birthday then 😆
Thank you! It’s definitely a bit mind boggling isn’t it!?? Tez
Cheers Tez!! Another awesome video, almost feels like we got 2 for 1. It's amazing what our brains will do to avoid things not making sense. See you on the next one!
Thank you as always!! 😊😊
I learned about the birthday paradox back in my high school algebra class (in 1974). There were only 12 of us in the class, and we had a match! Blew our minds.
Oh wow!!
Great video keep up the fantastic work ❤❤❤
Thanks so much! Tez
@@verynearlyinteresting your welcome
Interesting Tez. Thanks. I love your videos. Keep them coming!
Thanks very much John! Tez 😊
good life skill breakdown. excellent
Thanks Prof Simon. Hope you’re well, Tez
Very nearly blew my mind mathematically 😂👍💚Happy eclipse.
Happy eclipse to you too Gaynor … was it near you? Tez
So I was a birthday match! Only other people I shared my birthday with was Christine, a girl in my class at Junior school, and Robbie Williams
Another great video Tez, but still struggling to get my head around the Ben Franklin Effect!! 🤔
Hi Keith … yep to it’s a weird one!! Hope you’re well, Tez 😊(ps sorry for missing your comment)
Surely we should help anybody who needs help regardless of whether we like them or not ❤
Wonderful video, keep up the great work
Thanks so much Philip! Tez 😊
Great video again Tez👍
Hi Sharon! Thanks so much, Tez
Brilliant 😊
Thanks John 😊
Years ago I toured for a summer with an orchestra. Among the 45 of us, myself, the drummer, and the harpist all shared the same birthday. Maybe somebody can calculate the chances of that. What's more, all three of us were the only person in the group that played our instrument - none of us were from a section of several violinists, for instance. I always thought it was very odd, but maybe not so much after hearing your video. Fun and informative, as always.
Another excellent video matey. Cheers 👍 ❤😊
Thanks so much Ricky! Tez
love your videos
Thank you Fifi, Tez 😊
23 also happens to be the number of players in a football world cup squad. I think it was during the 2006 world cup that one of the UK 'Red Top' tabloids (you know the one) did a story in which they expressed absolute amazement that as many as 16 of the 32 squads in the tournament had a pair of players who shared a birthday! I think it's fairly safe to say that the writer had never heard of the Birthday Paradox. 😄
Oh wow Syd that’s amazing 😆
This is hard to accept until you go to a TGI's or Frankie and Benny's restuarant and the birthday song is played a few times 🤣
When I first started out tutoring (I’m a math tutor) I worked all the math out and it’s certainly correct. ;-)
Phew … that’s good to hear from a math tutor! Thanks so much for commenting, Tez 😊
No way!! That’s crazy!!!❤
Hi Sandy! Nice to hear from you again, Tez
@@verynearlyinteresting Loving your channel!! ❤️
@@sandywheeler5500 Thanks Sandy that’s so nice of you 😊
Very nearly interesting 😁
I don't find this too hard to understand - it is not the number of people, but the number of potential matches that give the 50/50 odds. I wonder if in a room of 46 people the odds would be 100%?😂
It couldn't be 100% because you cant dismiss the possibility that these people could have sequencial birthdays from january to february eg january 1st for 1, january 2nd for the next etc but I would assume it would have to be a fairly high chance of a match. Possibly 80-90% ?
@@AndrewS-xk6fw Good point!
I have nearly 200 friends on Facebook, 1 has same birthday
I think when you hear the 50% stat the natural tendency is to think it's the probability of a birthday match for yourself - much more unlikely. Then you interpret it as a probability for every single specific person rather than a random couple within the group.
08/28 ( Aug 28) is a popular birthday, I know 7 people with that date as their B day .... my wife and I have the same B day, I also know quite a few people with B days at the end of aug. The conclusion Ive come to is that there was alot of sex going on during Thanksgiving weekend ( 4 day weekend)
🤣
Interesting. Over my 70+ years, I have met and worked with around 11 people that share my date of birth, in two instances, they also shared the same first name as me although the female equivalent. in 2016, the director of a stage play I was in shared the same birth date along with one other member of the cast, this time also including the year.
What would be the chance of this. My wife and I married on a particular date, our daughter was born on the same date with my mother passing away also on the same date, although all in different years.
Strangely, In my research into my family history, I have only found 2 people born on my birth date.
👍👍👍
I still think your videos are interesting! Not very nearly!
Hi Stephanie!! Nice to hear from you again!! That’s so kind of you, thank you, Tez 😊
