    - In this video I demonstrate the proper way to mount a long shaft outboard to a short shaft transom. The 20" Yamaha F25 outboard is able to work on a 15" transom by use of a 5" jack plate riser bracket. I will go over the proper way to mount, level and install your long shaft outboard to your short transom.

Where'd you get that the riser for that one animal that hold a 50 horse Honda with trim and tilt?

It was so painful drilling that bracket but in the end it worked out REALLY well.

Always make sure to buy a short shaft motor for most all Jon boats. If you’re buying a used motor you can measure from the top of the engine mount where it sits on the transom to the flat part above the prop. The flat part “cavitation plate” should be close to the bottom of the boat.

Nice job man... instead of trusting those washers, you really will want to add a backing plate that essentially reaches both bolts and spreads the load horizontally across the transom. They're typically made out of 1/4" aluminum. There's a few companies that make them. I have a Vance manufacturing one on mine that came with my jack-plate. Over time the weight will inevitably mess up the transom. If that won't work because of interference with your supports, make some bigger backing plates out of aluminum to spread the load out. You've done a lot of work, don't want it to mess up...also, I'm curious to know where you'll be putting your batteries. Another cool video man.

Check out the Short I posted over the weekend, it shows where I mounted the batteries. Yeah the center support blocked my ability to use a mounting brace but I like the idea of building up the mounting points, I'm sure I can fab something up, thanks for the suggestion!

@@mvboutdoors NP, a 2x2 plate with a center hole would do wonders for you, spread the load out. Keep up the good work.

So after having the boat out I decided I want a little bit more reinforcement, and I went and grabbed one of those plates. I had to modify it slightly to fit where the bracket was but I was able to get it in place and I do think it made a difference. Thanks again for the suggestion!

If you get any flex on the transom when under power you can run two threaded rods from the transom to the wall of the storage well.

When building the back deck I actually tied the rear bench to the transom with angle to provide a walking platform but it worked the same in bracing it. Great idea all around!
